Extra tip when learning trees, learn what the early spring leaves look like. I found one of my best morel areas because of the distinct color of tulip poplar trees in early spring. I saw a large area of them from a highway. Checked on the map and they were on state land. Figured out how to get to it and jackpot! I've been returning to that spot for years now.

Thanks, Adam, for all the hunting tips we probably wouldn't have thought of. The correlation with deer hunting added a great spice to the lesson, and was a good reminder mushrooms are a lot easier to drag out of the woods.

Adam, it is so obvious to us that you have a passion for what you do. Thank you so much, for sharing your passion and love of nature with us.
On a side note, if you don't already, you should consider photography/filming nature as a serious hobby, or maybe even a side hustle. Your videos have given us some of the most beautiful shots of scenery and wildlife, many of which most people never get to see - like the image of croaking frogs in the forest pond, the deer, and the closeup perspective of those beautiful Morels. You have such a vast knowledge of nature and your photography skills are an added bonus. In my opinion, the images in your videos have a quality and hidden value (I'm not talking about the financial value) that we will never see in any magazines, books, or even many documentaries. I appreciate and am grateful for this. These images remind me of some of my favorite childhood memories.🥰 Thanks again, for doing what you do, and thank you for your love of the natural world. May you have a beautiful 2025 and best wishes. 🌳🌲

Very frustrating because I have no Elm trees in my area here in Eastern MA. I assume they were all cut down over a century ago. The forests here are mostly Maple species, Oak, Beech. Maybe I will come across a few Elms but I never find anything growing underneath. I have found only one morel in my lifetime and it was under a crabapple tree on the side of a path where people walk their dogs. At least I have a good amount of chicken and hen of the woods around. What we need here is a Johnny Appleseed to spread morel spores throughout the land.

@@colbykinney5633 I'll keep looking. My other issue is competition. I was in the woods one time looking for mushrooms and spotted a large, old oak tree about 75 yards off a path that anybody would walk. Somebody else had the same idea because when I checked underneath it, I saw cleanly cut hen of the woods mushrooms - or what was left of them.

Hey like the goatee! I also deploy my insta-read thermometer for ground temps around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Ive found that here in southern Appalachia we just dont get enough chill time. Hoping this year will be a bit different though. Also, most of our Ash trees have succumbed to the emerald ash borer. Would have thought the dead or dying ash would have supported more morel growth, but sadly has not been the case. Happy shroom hunting everyone (enoki is delicious too!)

One thing a friend of mine sometimes did that helped him to find morel mushrooms in the spring was to burn the leaves and debris off from the areas where he expected to look during winter months.
He took me with him one spring morning, and he filled up his sack quickly. I would have to be extremely careful about burning undergrowth and dead leaves to promote morel harvest near my place. And it might do more harm than good if things didn't turn out just right.
It's hard to see a 5 inch tall black or golden morel under 8 inch deep pile of leaves from pecan, ash, cottonwood, oak, willow, walnut, hickory, and other mixed deciduous trees.

have you ever done a PSA video which edible mushrooms have lookalike poisonous mushrooms that people might confuse? I see to recall you have done this on occasion in some vids, but maybe an entire video just on this? or suggest which mushrooms are not worth chancing if one is not an experienced expert at discerning these lookalike mushrooms.
