The Civic R drives better, but costs more and is uglier. The MX-5 and BRZ lose traction on snow. The Fiat Abarth also has good exhaust sound, but is much more unreliable. It is a possibility when I sell my motorcycles in the future, because my balance is starting to fail from old age. I am 60 now.
@bugs Bunny Wait, a DCT? Suddenly, this car just appeared as the third entry on my dream car list. Wonder how an auto would let you play with the pops though.
At 60 I ride a sportbike with 90 horsepower that has a 150 mph top speed (the last 600cc Kawasaki with 4 carbs from 2008). I do ride it more conservatively than when I was 25. The biggest problem with Hyundais and Kias is reliability, even with a 10 year powertrain warranty. Toyota, Lexus and Honda usually get to 200,000 miles with no big problems, and less often for the other brands. The Tucson recently had the dual clutch tranny replaced with a conventional automatic, because of reliability problems. We bought a used 2018 Mazda CX-5 recently, and our second choice was the Tucson for the way it drove and looked, however the April issue of Consumer Reports magazine at a library showed that many Tucson owners had warranty repairs that are a huge hassle.
@@jeffruebens8355 from one sports bike riding, 60 year old Jeff to another, I just bought a 2020 Veloster N, and it's a nice counterpart to my Ducati 998S. You won't be disappointed. I'm not ready to give up riding, but this makes for a nice alternative form of transportation!
I love that you bring up the abarth. I am actually cross shopping the two- but the abarth halted production 2019, it was smaller, and has some small fca quality things that really concern me, so with the hyundai feeling better quality and more capable in every way, and with the warranty value i am DEFINATELY leaning towards the veloster.
Nice video, that exhaust sounded like gun shots in that parking structure. I was chuckling like crazy!!! I was selling Hyundai’s when they came out with the 1st gen Veloster. I was initially very excited for that car, then it tanked in sales!! What a let down. Basing it on the Accent platform was the 1st mistake, then they hired Albert Beiman and he put his magic to work. Putting it on the Elantra Sport platform was what this car needed. No longer selling cars. I got tired of working every weekend. After almost 20 years in the business I called it quits in 2015. Now I work M-F, no Saturdays! I sold all Luxury brands until 2010 when Obama screwed up our economy and Luxury car sales went flat. Then I saw the new redesigned Sonata!!! I jumped ship from the Luxury brands and never looked back. I worked for Pugi Hyundai in Downers Grove, Il. They took great care of my customers. Pugi was and is a great place to do business. They have very high CSI month after month. Bought my wife a 2015 Elantra Limited rite before I left. Still love them all at Pugi and I visit them often for service and just to visit. Thinking I might buy myself an N next year.
The market is definitely expanding. SXTH Element, Forge, Boomba Racing, Lap 3, Gen Racer, and Tork have tons of Mods. Also exhausts are being made, the only reason I know is because I own one 😂
The way you explained this car sounds really similar to my Elantra sport 2017 and I have to agree Hyundai has definitely upgraded them selfs with performance in there cars even my 2017 still feels brand new and takes corners like nothin! recommend this car for starter car enthusiast great car 👍🏽love the Elantra too
Best part of this car is that you can do a custom drive mode that combines the engine performance settings along with the soft suspension settings for driving around town. You can't do that with a Type-R. I have the Turbo R-spec version of this car with under 3000 miles and I'm about to trade it in on an N. The only reason I haven't yet is because a Dual Clutch version of the N is coming. Decisions, decisions...
I've put 10k on mine and I still makes me happy just driving to work. Great car. I am possibly going to be getting a set of 18in wheels and tires for daily driving and keep my 19s for the track. I have some City driving and the wheel and low profile tires don't like cobble stone and uneven pavement areas I have to get through. Need more rubber!! Course on smooth pavement it's a dream. I drive 90 percent in custom mode. I'm never in N mode out on the road, that is track only IMO. Great video man, glad you are liking the car too, basically everything you said is what I'm getting too.
After reading all the issues people are having with their Civic Type Rs I’m really starting to appreciate the Veloster N. Excited to see what else they breathe on in the coming months and years!
Don’t forget to add Hyundai reliability. German performance plus one helluva warranty and the fact they rarely break unless they are being flogged every moment by a young driver who never maintains the car until there is already an issue. The only things this car needs are special silver and ghost grey paint schemes and alcantara interior options for the dash/door/center console/armrest. As a note, the great things about the third door idea are safety ideas. Children and pets can only exit one side of the vehicle and that third door is always on the curb. For a guy and his wife/girlfriend with no kids, this is the ultimate getaway car for a vacation. Tons of cargo space for two heading to the beach and this thing will hang with the Type R all day long with the proper driver. Albert Biermann is an engineering monster when it comes to performance cars.
I want one of these so bad, but I'm currently living in a downtown city, so I'm afraid of the bumps with the stiff suspension. Might have to go with the gti :(
Yea perhaps. I know many people who have moved to cities with bumpy roads that had to sell the veloster n because it is too stiff. However might I suggest the Elantra n? It’s suspension is much more refined and you get 95% of the fun and slightly better performance than that of the veloster n.

OMG the sound at 11:00. I want this car.
Rumor has it this thing is getting a DCT and AWD within the next few years... it's gonna sell like hotcakes! Personally I like it just the way it is
AWD? LOLOLOLOL.... DCT yes AWD?!! LOLLOLOLOL.
@@boygonewhoopdataZZ the i30N is getting AWD in 2021! There are plenty of rumors that the Veloster is going to get it too.
They may as well make it a crossover if they're going to pull that shit on us.
For near $30k this thing is great! High performance GTI/Golf R is nearing $40-45k.
So this thing is a bargain for the performance
@bugs Bunny Wait, a DCT? Suddenly, this car just appeared as the third entry on my dream car list. Wonder how an auto would let you play with the pops though.
CPO MK7s are like $25k now with the DSG
also the GLI will be out soon with an available DSG as well
At 60 I ride a sportbike with 90 horsepower that has a 150 mph top speed (the last 600cc Kawasaki with 4 carbs from 2008).
I’m getting one in 3 years! Can’t wait!
You'll have it in no time it's gonna be awesome
That sound is soooo crisp, Jesus.
this video just made this car one of my favorite cars lol learned a lot... this car is pretty badass
Man this is some good quality content.
The market is definitely expanding. SXTH Element, Forge, Boomba Racing, Lap 3, Gen Racer, and Tork have tons of Mods. Also exhausts are being made, the only reason I know is because I own one 😂
The best exhaust for the Veloster N is the XForce hands down. If you haven't heard it. You should go take a look.
The way you explained this car sounds really similar to my Elantra sport 2017 and I have to agree Hyundai has definitely upgraded them selfs with performance in there cars even my 2017 still feels brand new and takes corners like nothin! recommend this car for starter car enthusiast great car 👍🏽love the Elantra too
coming from the Detroit area i instantly knew you were in Michigan from the roads even before i saw the flint landsing sign lol
@vnq Since January. Only drive it for autocross and track. I love the car, but I love the N more!
Such a great review. I haven't driven it yet but I seriously want one. I just don't have car monies atm. Thanks for the passion and enthusiasm!
Great Review! Which would you choose for fun factor - Miata Convertible or Veloster N?
I really like this car. If it came out a few months earlier I may have even gotten it over my ND2...
Nd 2 all the way!!!
Hyundai is putting out some pretty cool cars. I picked up an Elantra gt n line, partially because of your review, and I'm really enjoying it... except for that damn electronic finger brake.
For the 4 doors, you'd prefer it's European sister car, the i30 N.
But I’m in us
Great review. However, you were incorrect about the required octane. It does want premium. It's in the owners manual.
Even if it didn't I would use it anyway.
I can say from ownership that it does not like “Regular” gas.
@@JTube571 using premium on a car that doesn't ask for it does literally nothing.
@@MrSomnix power wise, maybe not. But I have seen datalogs showing severe timing adjustment while doing so. To each their own but personally I use premium because I live where it gets 110*+ and the car just runs smoother.
j-Tube they’ve been tuning it already?
One of the few cars where I actually like the sound of the pops and burbles. Exhaust sound is beautiful.
Edit: And the limiter kiss at 14:18 is perfect. Was wondering how Hyundai set that up
Great video! Keep it up 🙌
What cars do u own thetopher? Great review!!!
The glass constantly fogging up lol
The AC
vnq thats because you probably never driven a car before.
@vnq u dont know how the reaction bettwen hot and cold air work my friend =)
I love that veloster sounds like a Civic Type R and the Eclipse GSX 98
The 2019 Miata Mx5, the Subaru Impreza WRX STI and this Veloster N sound like real race cars 🏎️🎶
Yes but don't come close to old muscle cars of the 60s but after all they are in different leagues
@@starsaber2002 Yeah, the American V8s are awesome sport cars with powerful engines, strong drivetrains, transmission, quick acceleration, high amount of torque, scary V8 burble growling sound 🦁 and high top speeds 🚙💨🇺🇸. Personally I love Japanese, American and European exotic cars. I don't have only one car preference, I like to taste different technologies. Here we are mentioning different car leagues
Are those Hyundai cars reliable? I really like this Veloster
Hyundai's aren't the most reliable cars, however they can run without major issues if it is well maintained.
@@RedditStorytellin-p4j thanks for the feedback
You're welcome
Watched the Veloster N, then realized you're in or near where I grew up. Subscribed for the local sights.
I’m planing on drive testing the veloster n soon. I’ve been debating on getting either a golf gti, Mini Cooper jcw, and focus rs(if I can find one with low mileage) and now the veloster n... though I leaning more towards the N since it seems more of a bargain compared to its competitors...
Holy crap dude you're driving on some roads close to me! Gotta love Michigan
Yup. I noticed in some of his other vids. He's somewhere around Detroit.
The 2019 EK Hatch - loads of fun included.
more like a CRX with that bodystyle
I've been trying to decide on what package to get on this car an if I should even get this car at all an I gotta say I'm sold on it.
N performance!!!! This is looking like my next daily driver.🏎
Veloster n had amazing aftermarket support right on release. Same engine as the geni coupe. They've got stroker kits amd sleeve kits. Could have this engine hitting some high numbers... Probably beyond what fwd can handle.
It's actually not the same engine as gen coupe. It's actually the same engine as the Sonata redesigned and powered up.
one of the only american drivers that knows how to use their turn signals.
Apart from new drivers.
It’s hard for me to get behind a hyundai, but they are getting really good
Why? Because people hate on it just cause it's hyundai? Because it doesn't have a pedigree? None of that matters. If it's good it's good. Test drive one and you'll be sold.
Jeremy Henry I just said they are getting good. These new cars are changing my mind.
@@tumsfestival8027 No worries. I wasn't saying what I said to attack your statement. Rather letting you know that if you test drive one. You'll be sold. I was skeptical as well back in the day. But when I drove the Veloster N my mind quickly changed.
It looks really fun to drive judging by the video!
