The show may not tell you explicitly, but I think Ging denying Gon a fatherly relationship hurt him more than he shows, and other than his friendship with Killua, this is the biggest point of Gon's story, the many things he does to prove that he is good enough to be Ging's son, and to fill the void of his abandonment. Remember this in the second half of the show, as people call Gon more things like insane and selfish.
Yeah, I honestly think Gon might have depression but he's the type who would laugh it off until it becomes too much to handle. Usually people like him have the worst type of depressions because you never know when they might do something dangerous to hurt themselves or the people around them. The reason why I suspect he has depression is because he had no kids his age in whale island to play with and his father abandoned him. he tied his self worth to reaching his goal and meeting Ging which was mostly a toxic obsession. He's also never been afraid of death at all! He definitely has signs of depression or mental illness.

@@joxerrrrr Yeah, people tend to label characters who are capable of doing evil as psychopaths without knowing what it actually means. That's just human nature. we don't have to be psychopaths to do horrible things. The kid has shown kindness and a variety of human emotions, but somehow he's labeled as a psychopath because he made some stupid decisions in very harsh circumstances. Gon is 12 years old, of course he's going to act his age and be stupid. That's why children shouldn't be involved in the battlefield. Maybe people are just used to seeing unrealistic main characters, it makes them perceive Gon as a psychopath in comparison to them. 😄
One thing to have in mind with HxH, while yes, Gon and Killua are leagues behind most of their enemies, they pretty much outsmart them so they dont need to outpower them, which is kinda interesting to do to solve a fight

Now that it's ended, i think one of the most interesting thing about Greed Island, that is very rarelly talked about, is how it works in relation to Nen. It's established that Greed Island exist it the real world, therefore all of the cards are actual working cards with their corresponding effects. It implies that Nen, with a right set of conditions and restrictions, can do pretty much anything. Some of the things that we already seen - Manifesting items, as seen with Chrolo's book or ridiculous healing properties of healing chain with Kurapika, but those things require you to expend Nen. Cards on other hand seems to work by themselves, so it's either Nen that pre-exist around Greed Islant or cards were Imbued with Nen. While many people consider Greed Island arc mediocre, being sandwiched between two insanely good arcs, I still find Greed Island is one of the most fun to theorycraft about.

You rememeber Kurapika telling Gon in the first arc that Hisoka has spared him because he probably has seen in Gon a kindred spirit? Well, now y'all know why. Hisoka has seen in Gon the same potential type of insanity, this constant need to be better than oneself' and others to the point of pushing against the limits of what's sane or logical to satiate that. Gon had a perfectly good plan he could have executed, but he wanted to push and prove himself, and he wanted to scare Genthru.

They won't kill the Nen Exorcist, because he just basically change the target to himself (remember he still have to touch Genthru to deactivate his Bomb so the Nen beast will disappear) so if Chrollo kill him, the chain will back to his heart (or more bothersome, the Nen beast will stick with him instead) .
