I love what you are doing , and it is fair for all genuine owners of your trusdx radios , you guys are awesome and much respect from me to you . Trusdx is my favorite radio , I had contacts at 3am NZ time last tuesday night to the seychelle islands , italy, USA, Jamaica, Panama, and Oman, plus more...... I am pleased you are fighting the good fight against piracy, and are even making room for individual hams to build their own (tr)uSDX rigs and still be supported. You and Guido are the ultimate Elmers.
It's all good and proper to protect your work. Need to update mine with my call sign change so will try it soon - thanks again for all your work on a great little product!
I thnk these new rules are great. I just purchased one from one of your approved vendors, Newdiytech. And I'm really looking forward to receiving it. Glad to see you taking a stance against crap radios and shady vendors. Please keep up the great work. 73
Totally fair, and understandable... Although I live in a country with heavy import restrictions, I will seize any upcoming oportunity to purchase a legal one. If I ever chose going a crappy product, I would chose DIY, it's funny to build but quality it's not priority... I really like your product.... Congratulations... 73 from Argentina.
This is a very good stance against piracy! Especially since the licensing terms of sending >one< demo unit to ensure build quality are negligible costs for a company, this just proves the amount of greed some (human?) beings have. Show em they messed with the wrong ham and keep up the good work!
The fun thing is: It is not even required to send a rig to us. Not even if you want to sell them commercially. The only problem with those black fake rigs is: They have changed the PCB Layout which is in Violation with CC-BY-ND license and still advertise the rig as (tr)uSDX with our callsigns on it, using our firmware and our "good name". Noone would have said anything, if they just had took the files and produced the rig as it was published. We don´t care if you go through the approval process ! We have created a certain hardware standard, so we are able to provide support. The black "Nanorigs" have kicked this very open license with their feet by openly disrespecting a very simple to follow rule. Take it as it is and donßt change it, then you can even make money with our design. That´s the whole point here. And of course: Their lame excuses.... See my Video where I publish the conversation with the "maker" of those rigs: ua-cam.com/video/bqnsVEpYrkc/v-deo.html
Thanks for the clarification. I organised a group-buy for my local radio club early last year; it was for 30 units. At the time getting hold of the Atmega microcontroller was incredibly difficult due to shortages, but I found a supplier on Aliexpress so bought them, but I believe they were probably clones as they all have the same distinctive serial number. Does your new policy mean that none of us will be able to upgrade the firmware on our (tr)uSDX units, even though we have all already registered our callsigns and the (same) serial number? M0WDV
I´m sorry to hear that, but yes, this is exactly what it means. We do not suggest to use fake AtMegas and don´t support product piracy. The solution would be: Get a legit batch and exchange them. With hot air soldering equipment, that´s an easy task. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
I've yet to get one my self, but I keep meaning to then life gets in the way and now I gotta wait again! But I will be ordering from Sonny! I've even thought of buying a dozen and go out to the flea markets and put a few on the table.. Get a couple kits, and the rest prebuilt for the lazy guys like me I'm more interested in getting people to my table than any real profit from it!! Then sell a few radios and a few of my antennas and electronics at the same time!!
No, class E doesn´t allow that. The only way to adjust the amount of output Power without sacrificing efficiency is to adjust Input Voltage. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
It makes sense to block illegal copies / counterfeits. Heard several bad sounding clones! (as manufacturer did not use the original components like an OpAmp). But have a question: I see a second hand (nearly unused) (tr)uSDX on a local market place. What about the combination of serial number and callsign? Can the callsign for a serial number be changed afterwards?
No Problem at all. The Serial is registered in the system, you can always download a firmware with changed callsign for an already registered Serial.

Danke Manuel. Finde es gut gegen Fälschungen anzukämpfen. Ich habe mir ein uSDX bei Ali gepostet (beim Seller deiner Wahl) Hat ufb geklappt. Der Mini Tx funktionnierte auf Anhieb. Hi Manuel, excellent strategy to register the official serial numbers and the callsigns. In the past, I have seen too many fake Chinese radios and kits of all kinds with all the negative effects that come along. As it is for me, I've built the official kit (classic bands) and think about building another one for the high bands. 73 de Stephan, DL6RDR
Even if I can understand the decision humanly, but so you basically commit your own license violation. The software is under the CC BY-ND license, but is no longer open available. This is against the CC license!
That´s not the case. ND stands for no derivates. If you try to use our software on changed hardware, the license already was violated, as the ND part was not fulfilled. The license applies to the package (Hardware + Software) as a complete unit. So trying to use the software and it´s license as a standalone thing is also a violation of the license, this clearly would derivate from the project. You cannot chose which part of the license you want to follow. All of it is mandatory ! Simple as that.
superb that you are doing this, I do hope not too many hams are suckered in to the pirate copies, thank you for all your efforts Manuel, love your channel.
Are the latest stable and beta firmware changelogs still uploaded to /3b-trusdx-firmware/? The changelog file appears to been the same over the past several months. Thanks de EI9LC.
Its obvious that you have put a lot of careful thought into this, and rightly so, its your product and your rules are whats important here, I congratulate you for taking this stance, I to have fallen victim to this type of behaviour, writing programmes and sketches only to find later that they have been copied and sold on the net. Continue to expose these bustards, and good luck.👍
Definitely a good fight! I have a question, I replaced the atmega on my trusdx because O accidentally burned the original one. I was able to replace it and install a new firmware with my call sign (KO4ZHL). Do I need to report my serial number?
Im glad you are fighting the fight. I have a sunny rig. I never updated it or added my call sign. How do I check my rig serial number sir? I think it have it on the kit box. Everything works fine and I've owned my rig for over a year...
@DL2MAN there was no problems with that. I'm just not good at all the bootloader then firmware stuff. It frankly scares me that I'm going to brick my transceiver. Right now it just turns on and works, I like it. I know user error can send my radio to the graveyard. If I brick it can I send it to you to fix with payment round trip, bahahaha! I know that's unreasonable, I just suck at the software side of things.
Ahhh yes I recall now. I got stuck at the boot loader process because it required additional resources. Well ef me. Guess I'm stuck with this firm ware. I got my personalized download no problem from the web app I know it's a good unit, but I'm assuming since the radio boots right to the freq there is no bootloader installed
Thanks for the video! So if I understand correctly, if I wanted to order 50 boards from JLCPCB, and slowly build them, a few for me, and maybe a few for my friends, and maybe sell the rest at ham fests, I could do this? I wouldn't need to send you a test rig? As long as I follow the group buy instructions, and build them exactly to specifications, then I could register the serial numbers?
