Hey, lim! I'm just thought you'd like to know that for my communications class we learned about you and this video as a significant multifandom vid. It's pretty cool that you're being studied in college classes. This is a beautiful and inspiring video, and I'm glad we learned about it!

Astounding. This might very well be an archetype of the creativity and power of UA-cam.

I saw this at 24/7 at USC and was totally blown away by its beauty and subtle power. I heard others gasp a bit as it ended, so I know I wasn't the only one. I will be sharing this with others in the DIY community, suggesting that it could be our anthem ... a den of thieves, contagious, taking hold of the media environment and making it our own ... just beautiful. Thank you.

Saw this in a film class and loved it! Copywright is when people only have one good idea and want to milk it. Creativity is when you grow auteurs.

Simply stunning. I feel like every time I watch this vid, I catch a new subtlety that I missed the first time round. :) A thought-provoking and touching exploration of what fandom means to those who participate in it, as well as a triumphant and defiant celebration of this "den of thieves". Still love the pencilled effect, and how it makes even iconic scenes alien and unfamiliar. *applauds* Bravo!

I was testing out my first slideshow in WMM when you uploaded this video and effects alone, it still amazes me. It's even more amazing that I didn't discover you until 12 years later. This is a very creative mix, especially with the colored portions. I love it 💖

Profoundly beautiful. Profoundly thoughtful. Profoundly meaningful. And the irony is that this "den of thieves" production is more creative than any official video for the song could ever be. Lim's work here is triumphant.

You know, I have seen this vid several times and I still can't get over how fantastic it is.
It's a commentary of fandom for sure, but also of modern society in general. It never ceases to strike me as profound in a way no other fandom vid (to call it a music vid would seem too small) has ever done before.
Your choice of song is perfect, but so are the clips, the editing and the effects. It adds up to an amazing work of art, and it is art.
Thank you for sharing, and much love even after years

When you climb a mountain at some point you stop and look at the view. The cultural and social landscape is being changed RIGHT NOW because of the internet. We don't understand how far we've come until we stop and look at the view. This video, blimvisible helps us see and appreciate how far we've come. Thank you.

You imagine the unfair treatment of users expressing an idea through recreating art, music, videos, etc. by use of digital media by 'fair use' and we see that it is a vaguely interpreted welcome sign to commit a criminal act of copyright infringement... a law we all would want for our own work, but a law that for many others is deemed egregious and a danger to society from seeking one's own personal expression... Andy Warhol portrayed Campbell's Soup Cans as a form of Pop Art... Andy saw the art not as art but as an expression of Pop Art - at the moment art - cheap and disposable art. Today, I use Andy's Campbell Soup Can art as a Memo Board, stuck with pins and sticky notes... this to me expresses the nature and value of Pop Art's usefulness -- I would encourage any museum that holds the real print to do the same -- as this is truly what Andy had in mind for his art; not to be taken seriously nor restricted by some copyright or intellectual law, but to be used as a medium for another functional use.... not as art, but as a practical covering over a unsightly whole in the wall, a dart board, a window covering, a bed sheet, or even used as a door mat. Music and movies should be used similarly, imagine a reel of Star Wars or Gone With The Wind printed in its entirety onto tissue paper or toilet paper... this would a practical use in the world of 'Fair Use.' To this I say, one man's art is another man's trash, and one man's trash is another man's art freely and in perpetuity, not bound by the breath or by action of an 'illegal' act, and not bound by the every existence of life through nefarious snares and traps harboring the bindings and bondage of egregious laws.

Sort of, you are on the right track. It's also about how people use copyrighted content to express themselves. The parts are already made; to make a new and original "whole". Such things should be allowed by law but they still deny it. Hope I explained it right...

This is incredible. The black and white blurs with splashes of color were especially moving, and this is a terrific song. It's prefect, absolutely nothing should be changed. Except perhaps to add a few more fandoms. (Harry Potter, possibly?) But no big deal, it's wonderful as it is.

Hey, this is the earliest multifandom video I could find currently on UA-cam, what inspired you to make this video? Were there other multifandom videos at the time?

    • @limvids
      @limvids  6 років тому +1

Oh yes, lots. It was part of a moment in fandom at that time, 2006/2007. It sort of bridges and is partly about vidding coming on to UA-cam (it's been around since the 70s). So it is about coming out into the open, to some extent.
Here's a database of multifandom vids from 2002, frex: vividcon.info/vidshows/71/ . (I'm not a VVC vidder myself but they were online and were doing it long before me!) Some other multis that were around at the time include fanlore.org/wiki/I_Put_You_There and fanlore.org/wiki/Women%27s_Work ua-cam.com/video/y4E7T5klLLM/v-deo.html and loads by Obsessive24. Oh and ua-cam.com/video/HrZc5bGvmPY/v-deo.html
It's just that this one never got kicked off UA-cam! ( well, it did a few times but I counternotified...)

the way i took it (and this is just my interpretation) is that it's a comment about the nature of copyright and free expression ("we're living in a den of thieves/and it's contagious"). how people take different sources and reuse them to make new things. but again, that's just me.
