Growing up in Cincinnati in the 1960s, my mom and I would watch The Poter Wagoner Show on Saturday afternoons. It was broadcast from Dayton, so our reception was not so great, but that didn't matter, we could still hear the music.

Whenever this song came on the radio me and my older brother would get quiet and quietly sing along with our Mom and Dad. It wasn't until the early 2000's that I learned Porter was from West Plains, Missouri; just a "Stones Throw" from where my Dad was born, in Van Buren, Mo :) Such wonderful memories :)

The son realized when he found the ring, his dad Walter Browning and Mary Ellen were having an affair! I know the writer (Bob Ferguson) always said this fictional, that he got the name by passing a highway sign for Carroll County, TN. But it seems strange that the most famous person to come out of that low-population county was longtime congressman, two-time Tennessee Gov. Gordon Browning (1937-39, 1949-53). I'm surprised he didn't sue.
