Ming is darn crazy, even for a mother! Going to the Daisy Mart and embarrassing Mei in front of Devon to bringing pads to Mei- WHEN SHE WAS AT SCHOOL, blaming Mei's friends for Mei's behavior but it was Mei's idea, to almost destroying a concert just because she thought 4*TOWN would steal Mei's heart. Ming is a crazy woman

I don't gotta a kid but some how I find Ming relatable. Like she's probably one of my favourite characters too. She has the right intentions to be a caring mother but ig she did go overboard. iT iS LiKe ThAt ThOuGh In A tRaDiTiOnAl FaMiLy. Poor Devon, literally trying to earn a few bucks with a job and get's called out for smth he didn't do. Anyways, enjoyed watching this crap, as you call it, you should make more compilations. The only problem about Ming was that she was overprotective and overbearing towards Mei. Other than that, she's a loving and caring mother who's just looking out for her daughter

Ming was a little bit of a controlling mother to mei mei, but she was also a very caring and a very overprotective mother, which shows that she loves mei mei so much and doesn’t want anything bad happen to her.

It was actually Ming’s panda. That necklace kept it under control, so she didn’t have to deal with it like Mei did (that’s what the ritual Mei went through would’ve done, btw). But when she lost control of herself at the end there, she also lost control of the panda as well. And as a result, she became the panda once again.

This movie is the pure definition of riding a thrill ride while sitting on your couch. The heartbeat sound effects that play whenever Mei or Ming are about to turn into pandas actually make YOUR heart beat faster too, as if you were actually them! So when you’re watching this, it feels like you ARE the main characters! And you get the same emotional thrill ride that they do as a result.

Something I never noticed in her introduction were her eyes?? They were harsh and judging for like two seconds and then for the rest of the movie they’re softened and rounded out?? And I think that’s a good animation detail, she’s seen as controlling (which yeah she can be) but she’s just trying to be caring? And I think that’s nice they paid that much attention to detail with her eyes alone.

I think it’s a bit stereotyping to say Asian mother, more like ethnic mother. The fact that moms of Irish, Italian, Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese, Ashkenazic, Estonian, Ethiopian, Moroccan, Arabian, Hispanic and even Japanese dissent, can be like this, it’s not because they’re a member of any of these ethnicities, rather, it seems there’s this refugee mentality that a lot of immigrants to Canada, western European countries such as the UK, and the US, tend to have an overachiever mentality of their kids, and also seem to not realize that, the reason why they didn’t go as far as they would’ve liked to in life in their homeland, they have not had to do with the actual situation in their homeland, rather, the fact that they had such a rough childhood. They have no idea that that’s the reason, so they end up passing on the same toxicity, thinking what needed to change was just the outer environment, which is why they act ashamed of you for not having high enough of grades, and beg you to become a doctor or something. It’s more of refugee mentality immigrant mom thing than anything. Also, because at least I’ve met parents of each of these ethnicities that are nothing like this, and they are directly from these countries. I think it depends on the individual really, but the reason why there’s a high concentration of them that are like this, is because of what I just explained, if they believe that the reason why they didn’t achieve much in life growing up was because of the country they grew up and rather than how they were parenting, their parenting won’t change and then they will end up moving to Canada, the UK or the US, expecting their children to be so much happier, healthier and more successful, and then that’s why they start building you for not going up to the expectations plus it’s an aspect also the toxic parenting they don’t realize was really truly the problem of them not success in the way they thought they should have

I like Ming and she really does mean well, but she kind of was a Karen. I live in an Asian household, and my mom is nowhere near as invasive or as overprotective. My mom wouldn't have just assumed things bc of some drawings, and she would never come to my school unannounced. I understand Ming bc of the whole panda thing, but she did get better as a mom.

I am a 30 year old married man with 4 boys, obviously I am not the target audience...but that scene where Mei Mei's mom transforms out of pure anger sold the movie to me.
It was a nice story (my wife and niece loved it btw) but that scene was so great I just had to have the full context and obviously I searched it again.

This is an unpopular opinion but to a extent ming was right about the friends, they kinda enable Mei to keep going panda for money, and thought nothing bad could happen with being in a hyper emotional state . When literally anger is a powerful emotion and seeing how Mei and that one dude don't get along something was gonna go wrong. And he got hurt... they realistically shouldn't have gone to the concert , like they said " if we all can't go,what would be the point"...and to see them go with the money made off mei was kinda a dick move. Mei might not have stuck up for them when her mom was telling them off but they weren't blameless ...them getting scolded after someone is hurt isn't bad (not like ming told their parents) this isn't saying Mei wasn't at fault, she made choices and her friends supported those choices, the good and bad.
I wanted to add on... Is it me or does Mei hurting that one boy get brushed off so easily.....like the next time we see him they don't address what happened they just jump into hugging him (only because he's a 4town fan, not to say sorry). And I guess I just have the weird idea anyone else would be uncomfortable being around people that just 1.ruined your birthday, 2. Physically hurt you, 3. Scared you to tears... Props to him for not holding it against Mei or her friends I guess... (Even tho he said mean things to her, she had zero right to attack/ hurt him. Putting your hands on someone is never ok.)
I agreed too, Mei did not like her mother for not letting her go to the concert and thought she’s extra but forget how her friends’s mom also didn’t let them go too. Furthermore Mei lied to her mom, got into troubles and Ming has to take all the blames. People seems to not pay attention enough to Ming’s character and her motif was pretty justified for me.

i think the reason ming's panda is so huge, is because she's been holding her emotions like.. since forever. speaking of which her mother too, in that first scene where mei's dad says "ming, its your mother" and shes like "I'M NOT HERE!" and hides away, is basically how toxic her mother treated her, she wanted "perfection" from ming rather than let her be herself, i mean yes i know parents need to make that decision, but it was just so stressing for poor ming, unpopular opinion, but i do not think ming's a terrible mother.. she's just overprotective from the toxicity she's been through, and doesn't want her daughter to go through what she did.
It's China. Generally showing emotions is discouraged in traditional Asian cultures especially for woman. It's not hard to imagine her burying her emotion because it was "the right thing".
