Tbf you can infer it any way you want. His sexuality was never addressed nor was it a concern for his character. Being hyper masculine to not be seen as girly is also something gay people go through as well. Basically your interpretation is as good as there’s and there’s no real harm in multiple takes on a fictional character.
Pls refer to 4:10 right as he says he loves a singular boy from the boy band and yes being associated with gay is a big deal when it’s 2002 everyone is straight and being gay is a big problem that allot of people where still being bullied, fired, and killed for so ofc he wanted to keep it a secret not to mention this is a COMING OF AGE story so him being insecure about what he likes and then actually coming to terms with it and finding people who accept him for him is what the story is all about

Ikr! No one talks about it. When he asked mei to come to his party, I thought it was a trap because it was kind of suspicious or maybe because I don't like him, but when he said "if you're there, everyone will come" I started to feel bad for him.
Yeah, there are a lot of small hints about him. I get that he's a jerk at first. But the first scene we see him it's actually Mei who is an asshole. So I couldn't help sympathising even then. Also, they won't let him take pictures with a panda, openly saying 'we don't like you and don't want you'. He then tries to talk to them about his plan for the party. He wasn't even blackmailing them from the start, notice - he did that only to start a conversation! And as soon Mei got engaged, he didn't bring that up again, offering honest salary for the trouble. Also notice - he had already prepared flyers with the panda, as he knew that noone would come just for his party. So the party was hit or miss, depending on Mei's agreement. And we got a glimpse of what the party would look like with no panda... The dance scene at 2:31 is cute. It's like he didn't know at first how to share having fun with others. At the panda attack scene he's kinda in the right. He paid for her services, and he resorted to an insult only after his own pride had been insulted. And he's crying for real. That cry was a good reminder that he's only 13 and has every right to cry and be scared. Sorry for my essay, I just love this character

I just realized something. I like that they didn't go the typical route of a mean girl clique rivaling her and her group of friends. Instead she's bullied by a boy and it looks like that only lasts like a portion of the film.
Don’t forget O.M.G. Girl. She has a lot of the stereotypes at first then turns out to be a sweet individual who loves furry animals even though you’re sort of led to believe she’s going to be mean. To further it, it looks like she’s also diabetic given the patch on her arm. I can’t speak as a none diabetic but someone said it looks like a patch to read sugar.

Honestly I love how it’s obvious Tyler is a little nervous and shy when he’s dancing at his own birthday party, but it’s the girls around him encouraging him to dance that gives him confidence. It’s just so cute!

It's quite a good story, actually; I'd recommend it.
I didn't like him at the start, but by the time meimei lunged at him and he started crying, I felt bad for him. By the concert, I was ready to give him another chance when the girls accepted him without question and loved him by the end

I think the storytelling with Tyler was genius by the Turning Red team. Its not obvious but when you look at the details and think about it, it makes sense. Hes a bully cause thats what people seemed to laugh with him about but hes a loner kid. No one wouldve been at his party so hed be willing to give someone $200 for them to actually have people come. Then with him dancing hes shy but then with the girls he gets the confidence and seems happy and at the end its great that he gets included in their close friendship. Fantastic writing and animating

Sometimes, apologies are unspoken through sudden change and acceptance. I think that’s what made this so beautiful. I’ve witnessed friendships that were gained from people who used to bully people. As a sideliner, I chuckled but was also impressed because I never in a million years would think that’s possible. I didn’t want to interfere or jinx it either so I just let it be. Tyler’s one of the best characters in the movie. He steals the scene in every part he’s in, and I liked him even more when he showed up at the concert and Team Mei welcomes him with open arms. Seriously, I want to see more of him soon
