What should be the white balance for fireworks?
Auto works fine - if you want bluer skies go for 4400 to 3600k or tungsten setting.
@@ShutterSpeak thank you 😊
Great Video. Thanks for the camera settings and tips. Can't wait for the fireworks. Be safe.
Have fun and be sure to let me know if you get some good images 🙂
Thanks, Joe. What's the purpose of (matrix) metering if you're setting everything manually?
Bro, have you picked up a lapelle mic yet? That space is not conducive to a mic that far away from you.
thanks Joe, focus to infinity?
Great question - most likely yes... if you are close enough not to, you area probably too close!
@@ShutterSpeak thanks Joe
Hi. Perfect timing for the 4th of July Fireworks. 🚀
Thank you - I try 🎆
any tips for setting up an iPhone to take decent fireworks pictures for FB posts ?
A tripod might help - sorry - best I have.
What should be the focus setting? Manual or Automatic?
Manual seems to be the best cause automatic always locks up for me
Thanks for the info. Last year I spent some time taking fireworks shots. I used a shutter speed closer to 1 second. My trails weren't as long as yours. I did however, use multiple exposure mode and put more that one blast into the same photo.
A really cool tip - good thing to do in post as well. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Hey Joe! Thanks for this great video! I will try the settings and let you know how it goes.
Looking forward to it!
Hi Joe Followed your suggestions for shooting fireworks and they were right on! Thanks
So glad to hear that - thank for letting me know!
Thank you so much for sharing your settings for shooting fireworks 🎆. What lens to you prefer?
Great question... That depends on how far away the fireworks are. I have shot with a 200mm all the way down to a 14 mm. Plan before you go 🙂
@@ShutterSpeak Thank you!
Thanks Joe!
Thank you
Thanks for the tips. Does the lens affect the settings in terms of length of time the lens should stay open? have a 24-70mm f/4, 50mm 1.8 and hopefully soon to be delivered 70-180mm 2.8 on the 6ii. I dislike the blob reflection on the water would a VND 1-5, 6-9 or CLP help?
no - the length or f-stop of the lens does not matter in this case.
Using an old canon 70d. I have a sigma 10-20 as well as a canon 18-55. Will i need different settings for the sigma?
Same settings
how about video settings
How about portrait of kids that don't sit still and fireworks in the back?
Not going to happen 😂
Im sure if you fired a hand held speedlight just before the curtain closes you would get a nice image of your children frozen while still getting the long trails of the fireworks.
correct me if im wrong. I do this with sparklers and get my children to strike a pose after they have drawn there sparkler art then fire the speedlight.
@@danielbrown1844 I very good idea - that very well might work
