I just got a Canon Rebel t5 to begin expanding on my photo knowledge, and was wondering what type of settings to use for fireworks! This video came at a perfect time! Thanks!!!
Awesome. You will need an intervalometer if you want to do the hands-free option but the settings are the same. Would love to see a shot or two from your weekend on the facebook page next week- facebook.com/Digital.Photo.Recommendations
Thank you for the tip. I have a question in regards to the focus. You mentioned turn off auto focus. Is it because you are using a wide angle, mostly everything is in focus and you no longer needs to be focusing all the time?
Get focus on where the fireworks are launching and then turn AF off so the camera doesn't try to refocus. Yes- at f/8 and with a wider lens almost everything will be in focus but you just don't want to try to refocus each shot - the camera will be too confused in the dark.
Yep- some cameras and some lenses don't cause any problems but some lenses - like the sigma 24-105 - if IS is left on when it is on a tripod - it tries to work and actually ends up blurring the image at slower shutter speeds.
Yes - Maybe I was confusing in my video. I just want people to make sure they are not just shooting a video with the time lapse/intervalometer setting.
How do you like that 80D? I read on CanonRumors, although it doesn't have 4k and all the stuff on paper that makes people get knee-jerk excited, that it is actually a pleasure to use in real world situations. Still waiting for the 5D with that 80D touch screen this autumn. ;-D
Its pretty much like the 70D - nice all around camera with some decent improvements. Me personally for travel and general photography I would still take the a6300 but if I was a wildlife or sports photog on a budget I would be happy with the 80D.
Yeah, I like that A6300. It really disappointed me when I found out the 4k was like jello. I planned on getting it. I had the original Sony mirrorless system and all the lenses, the NEX. I sold it after a little while but even back then it was a fun camera to use. I'm sure it's much more advanced now.

+PhotoRec TV Thanks so much! If I manage to get any good ones I will definitely share! :)
Great tips, Toby. I've never tried to shoot fireworks yet. May have to try it this year.
Toby, on Sony app you have 3 options; video, stills and both. And if you are using add on app you need stills to create zoom or pan
Yes. I know. I just want people to make sure they are not just shooting a video with the time lapse/intervalometer setting.
Great video again Toby. Will be using these tips soon
Thank you Nathaniel!
No wonder my fireworks images have sucked in the past. Now I have some great tips. Thank you.

+PhotoRec TV thank you for very much
Great video as always. Thanks for the help!! :)
Do you worry about the sensor heating up and generating noise for such an extended period of shooting?
Do you find shooting vertically (portrait) rather than horizontally (landscape) works better?
I usually shoot horizontally but if you want to include a little of the landscape vertical works too.
Hi, is a complete review of 80d still coming?
yep.
+PhotoRec TV Great! :)
i use my radio flash triggers.holding the button down for the duration of the exposure.
That's another very good suggestion - thanks for sharing!
I have the Nikon D500 and the lens I have are 28mm 1.8, 55-200mm DX lens, 35mm 1.8 DX,
So what do I do with the 28mm or the 55-200mm lens
28mm unless you are really far from where they are shooting off the fireworks.
Thanks, which lens is a better lens to use on the D500; Nikon 17-55 mm 2.8 DX or Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 DX
both are great. 11-16 if you want VERY wide. I personally would use the 17-55.
thanks
Sorry, one more question. Why turn off image stabilization?
I think that's because on some systems, IS is thrown off if you are using a tripod. To be honest, with a GH4 I've never experienced any problems.

Just fyi the sonys can take still raw images if you set it up to do so. Not just video

sure :) great video btw, never considered doing it like this.
$349 !! Fuck. They saw you coming didn't they.
Those who dislike this video are those mad photographers who got their settings exposed!!!
