After watching your video, it took this 69 year old grandma less than 5 minutes to put in the new cabin air filter. That did include cleaning out the glove compartment, finding a trash bag for the old filter and throwing away the dirty filter. Thank you so much!
among dozens of instruction videos on youtube, yours is the only one which explains how to fit the filter correctly based on the arrow. thanks for that
I had my first oil change at My Subaru Dealership today. The service writer approached a customer who waiting and showed her the two filters. Engine air filter and Cabin air filter. The dealer cost to the customer was close to a $100.00. Thanks for this info.
Hey man, thanks!! Great job on explaining the arrow thing. I was confused and this clarified it for me. Most every instructional video online tells you to make the arrow point up, simply b/c the original OEM part for many cars (Toyotas are this way, too) tells you very clearly to make the arrow point up. But since the aftermarket filters' refer to "air flow" direction, and not *necessarily* which side to point *UP*, this can get confusing. I took the cabin filter out of my 2014 toyota sienna and put a piece of paper partially into the cabin filter compartment and turned the AC, and the air pushed it down, meaning the air flow is from to bottom. So I installed the aftermarket filter with the arrows pointing down.
Awesome video, thanks! Virtually identical on the 2020, only difference is a couple tabs on the bottom of the filter door itself that are very easy to figure out. Your comments on direction of airflow are spot on. According to my auto parts store, it's a different part number depending on whether you have the 2.5 or the turbo, which I find surprising, but beware just in case.
Thank you soooo much! Excellent video in every respect! I've used this before and it worked so easily and am revisiting it now to use it again. I greatly appreciate your time to create and share this and to save me the crazy labor fees and time to bring this elsewhere to do. Looking forward to seeing your other 2015 Outback repair videos too! Thanks again for your excellent work!!!
@@ColoradoRMN Thanks for your reply! Would you happen to have a video on how to fix an 2015 Outback's power window? Mine is closed and the button does nothing i.e. it is just stuck in the closed position. If you do have a video, please share the link and thanks again for all! 👏🏽 👍🏽 😁
I have a 2020 Outback and the arrow pointing up on the OEM filter was a bit confusing, thanks for clarifying the airflow direction is from the top down, as I bought a replacement filter very similar to what you used.
Just a suggestion - November is a good time of year for replacing filters in areas with fall leaves. You want to replace after most of the leaves are done and not getting into the intake filter.
Also good direction for air flow. Many videos incorrectly stated air flow was "UP" due to the cover, but I didn't believe them due to where to side containing the dirt and trash. Usually, a filter is on the suction side of the pump (fan in this case).
Using your tutorial for changing my 2016 Legacy cabin air filter with fram fresh breeze cabin filter. Thanks for the info and btw I followed your guide with arrow down. Thanks!
Thank you for pointing out the weak point of the manufacturer. they did not have the customers in mind when they marked the car and the filter... Air flow make sense for everyone. Up, Down is relative depending on what you are looking for. #Subaru Hopefully they will adjust their markings not to make it easy for the plant workers to install it, but to make it easy for the customers to replace the filter properly... Hey Subaru... We all love your cars, make our life easier! Thank you!
Nice video. I used STPCAF1816p which was about 1/4" narrower then OEM (which was a little loose to). Careful removing the tension rod, as I 1/2 way broke a mounting pin, stills works. No gloves in the glove box?
The arrow on the cover indicates the cover should be installed with the arrow facing up. It has nothing to do with the direction the filter is installed. Install the filter with the arrow pointing down in the direction of airflow as he said.
Correction... Subaru is not different from the rest of the world. Range Rover and Toyota also use the up indicator arrow instead of an air flow arrow. (Toyota includes Scion, Lexus and the Pontiac Vibe) The industry standard however is an arrow on the edge of an air filter indicates air flow direction (unless it says up) and air flow arrows point toward the blower
Airflow was a bit confusing. Even though the arrow says up with after market filters make sure it points down. I have after market and it states to point it down. I Just changed it.
unfortunately there is much more to the removal on a 2007 subaru. I ended up taking it to someone who could help me because I wasn't getting to the place I needed to. THanks anyway. If I ever get a newer subaru I will know it is easier.
Air flow direction is always downward on any cabin air filter with the blower motor mounted below the filter. Otherwise the blower motor would be full of dirt and debris.

Just changed cabin air filter for my wife's Outback. You made it easy! Thanks
Thank you for making this video, super easy to follow and made it very easy for me to replace my filter. The airflow direction was especially helpful.

you explained it way better than other videos.

Easy and straightforward thank you.

good photography of the disassembly process as well as good explanation of air flow through the system and proper filter installation. Well done!

Good point! Looks like my 12K interval will actually fall into late October / early November time-frame as well.

Thanks so much! Your instructions were fabulous and only took me about 4 minutes to install...2 min of the 4 were for cleaning out the glove box!,
Great! Glad that helps! Enjoy the Subaru!
Your Subaru videos are great. Using them to change air and cabin filters on a 2016 outback. Thanks!
Thank you so much for explaining the arrow up or down! Huge help!! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the straight forward and helpful video man
Glad you liked it and found it helpful!
Hey dude, great video, really good tip on direction of airflow
Thanks!
Fantastic walkthrough - thank you!

Nicely done. Thanks !!
Our local Subaru dealer charges $69.99 to do this! Thank you!
Happy to help! :D

air flow has me a little confused ...but will try! Thanks!

great help thanks
Doing this today!
Should be pretty easy! Good luck!
Thanks!
Thank you!
👍
Mine is carbon activated so, does the carbon side go DOWN?
If your airflow comes from the top (dirty side of filter) then yes, carbon side should be down.
The old one looks cleaner 😂
New one is darker because it has carbon activate filter. :)
Thank you but I bought WIX better quality
It is a good one as well! My video is how to do it, not going after any specific brand.
