My baby (mini schnauzer) is in hospital right now after intensive care to stabilise him first and had a cystotomy performed this afternoon. Very very costly. Your video was an exact textbook example of what has happened to him. He had hundreds of stones - several large and lots of small and sandy like forming ones - being sent to the US for analysis of composition. I’m do very grateful I got him to the vet in time his bladder was imminently going to burst. After intensive IV fluid therapy, pain relief and catheterisation the surgery has been successful and I pray to take him home later today. Thankyou for a very informative video on bladder stones!!! 🙏🏻❤️😭💔

Our dog had to have a cystotomy last week due to a clump of over 20 struvite stones that we had NO idea he had. This video helped a TON with understanding how they form, how they are treated, and how to prevent them. I actually ordered the Hill's C/D food yesterday and will be starting our sweet boy on that in the next day or two. Thank you SO much for this video!

What medications are in these so-called special hills or royal Caine diets. Other than drinking water more what other measures are we do to make our dogs ( cats) less likely to have bladder stones? I my self am a raw or lightly cooked feeder, my cats as well as dog have a balanced carnivore diet. I feed raw bones as well as a variety of meat and organs from 3-4 different animals.

My vet mis diagnosed said he had pancreatitis. Just reminded me he was old and well if I needed to anything g is to do his teeth...I tried talking to him two weeks later over bladder leakage now...he didnt really seem it being a matter of urgency..not offered anything g xray etc...I felt compelled that it wasn't a problem a month passes some days he was running around d some times he just seemed tired but because he referred him as being old I took his word..everytime you walked in it cost 200 so I was a bit feeling like if it's serious thr doctor would be interested..well 1 month he stopped peeing ..lost some weight thought due to what I was told ..found out he had stones...two day later he died😢😢😢no proper physical exam. Etc..or even offered any other ideas. Just possible catch a sample of his urine..said maybe he has diabetes but two weeks earlier when I went in he said he was checking but never gave me the info..or explained snything he now suffered toxicity and died it was horrible horrible...

    Thanks for this information
My dog got some stones removed like 4 months ago and yesterday we had to take her to the emergency care because she was peeing blood and the stones came back. The stones look like peanuts. The veteran have never seen that kind the stone. Now I’m waiting on the results and I don’t know what else can be. My dog is a shitzu and she’s 4 years old 😢

Found out today that my dog had bladder stones and scheduled a surgery for next week. The vet said that they had been there for a while but we only noticed her seeming to strain to pee a few weeks ago and thought it was probably just an infection. She hasn’t really been acting out of the ordinary other than needing to pee a little more often, she’s always been very active and playful and a happy dog. I’m not sure if it’s our fault for not catching it sooner:( I feel awful like there could have been some warning signs earlier that I missed and if we found out sooner we could avoid surgery. Now she’s going to have to go through this whole ordeal of being scared and confused and likely in some pain and not understanding why and it breaks my heart. The vet said that it’s a pretty routine procedure and I don’t really need to worry but I am nervous about something going wrong.

How did the surgery go. My dog’s surgery is scheduled end of Jan. Any advice for post surgery care? His stone is very small, but big enough that it could block the urethra and cause an emergency if left alone. He’s 10. I’m up at night worried about this surgery for him.

My 10- yr old Havanese has a very small calcium oxalate stone and the Vet wants to dissolve it with a diet change to Royal Canin urinary S/O. Every video I’ve watched has said this type of stone cannot be dissolved with diet!! Why would they be recommending this??? My understanding is this type of restrictive diet can prevent further stones from forming, but it will not dissolve an existing stone. We are supposed to return in a month with another urine sample ,but I am left feeling like I’m not doing enough. This Vet has never steered me wrong, so I’m quite confused as to why this would be recommended . The Vet even told me he is “not concerned about it” because it is so small… but it’s clearly irritating my dog’s bladder, or pushing against it ,since my dog has to pee a lot…. which is why we saw him in the first place. Thoughts?

@@lo3133im so sorry to hear that. 😢 We went back to the vet a month later and of course , the calcium oxalate stone looked exactly the same after being on the prescription diet. His advice? Stay on the prescription diet, no other food, and surgery at end of the month to remove the stone. Royal Canin S/O Has chicken by products as one of the first ingredients. This is what’s left after an animal is slaughtered and can even include feces amongst other disgusting things. I am completely appalled by this food and have no intent to feed it to my dog for life. However, trying to figure out the proper home-cooked diet for a dog with calcium oxalate stones is like walking through a maze. No one gives you a straight answer, or Information is contradictory, or the diet it’s just too complicated, or too expensive ( if you add raw organ meats), or too simple ( like a basic stir fry), lacking the proper vitamins and nutrients added back in. Seems like I’m going to have to spend more money with a holistic vet to get the answer.
