they do intentionally to be hard to repair and people buy a new one, is not if its a good design or not, that days of apple are gone, now everything is about greed and money, buy buy buy.
Mid-2015 MBP 15” Retina display. On the motherboard, the keyboard data connector (i.e. the connector with that little open/close flip-up / flip-down tab, into which the keyboard data cable connects)… I flipped up that tab and it snapped off. Is that tab a ‘must have’ or is just a ‘nice to have’? aside: my laptop will not power-up, but I don’t know if that’s because that open/close tab on the connector is now missing (causing a weak connection?) or because I’ve maybe damaged the keyboard data cable whilst trying to force it into connector (when I didn’t realise that little open / close tab was there). Any suggestions?
Yikes! I ordered a new keyboard, watched this video, and immediately canceled my order. I've replaced SSD, battery, etc, but no way am i tackling this. If nothing else, the video serves to demonstrate the complexity of the job, if not precise instruction.
Ya khayyeh, why don’t you have a wow stick screwdriver? It’s perfect for these kinds of jobs. Watch out for getting RSI. Ah, I see near the end that you have another type of electric screwdriver, 👍 thx for the interesting vids.
Okay what the actual fuck. Here i was thinking i could repair my 2015 15 inch retina the same way i did my 2011 13 inch back in the day, but i am starting to realize that there is no way my macbook will survive if i attempt what you did
Thinking about putting colored gels behind my keyboard to tint the backlight. Would I have to remove the battery if I’m not working on the trackpad? (Same size and model as the Retina in this video)
Hi do you need to remove everything or only the battery to clean out the trackpad? I think I just have crud in there and already have battery replacement. But don’t want to replace trackpad when it still clicks
What's your methodology for prying up the rivets? I see the tool you use but because it's sped up, I can't see exact details like if you're prying up or wiggling side to side etc. Would help a lot as I plan to do this on my own, thanks!
Yeah, I would be interested into this as well. Unfortunately almost all of my rivets remained fixed to the body. As far as I could see on mine, I think they're threaded. I succeded to get only one off using some other tool, which for sure it'll not do the job as it schreds the aluminium off and shrinks it, I'll try with a cutter like indicated
Help ... my 2015 ... 15 inch retina is now powering up to login screen... power button works BUT no other keys nor trackpad works... SOMETIMES I’m offered Bluetooth by pop up screen after long wait.. so sometimes I can use remote Bluetooth keypad and mouse... also attempt to plug into remote monitor failed... can someone advise?
You don’t need to remove the battery. Just buy the new keyboard with screws. Just did it on my 2015 MacBook Pro w/o removing the battery/ trackpad, just the logic board.
The tool used to remove the battery can be found at amzn.to/2GRPHLR. You can get 4 different sizes for about $7. Yes we always remove the battery so we can remove the plastic ribbits and screw the keyboard back in.
You carefully rip off the rivets to make sure they all come out, then use 100 or so tiny screws with ph000 heads in the place of rivets, to screw in place the new keyboard. The screws you buy on eBay or some such place.
Can you change the actual keys on a macbook to key of another language? Like, you have a Macbook Pro with a US keyboard. Can you change this to a spanish one? I'm talking about hardware not software.
You can if you want to change all the keys. An easier and cheaper way would be to either use stickers over the keys or a Spanish keyboard cover like this one amzn.to/2SZYxu1. Make sure you choose one that fits your laptops model.
we know there is money to be made with this type of effort so what you dont have to spend in apple parts you can put in your own. not too many people are willing to subject themselves to this labor but it pays well so why not! otherwise, you can just get a job at your local grocery store! feel me?
Luis Ramirez I’m tired of paying Apple or just buying a new computer. took the plunge trying to fix my own stuff until the OS is no longer viable. So far so good but it can be scary!
Whoa... Man, Apple screwed up with this build... Taking a single drop of 70% isopropyl and putting it under a sticky key, letting it sit (powered off) and the pressing the key several times will release sticky keys! Try it!
your hand was covering everything. You could have done better job with the camera angle. You do not have to upload it fast speed on you tube. We can fastforward
Unbefuckinglievable. How on earth could Apple design such a piece of literal crap
ya

I pray to start a business like this !
Thanks for such a great demonstration.

the hole threaded is under the rivet ?
great job NorthridgeFix like all your videos

There are tons of other videos with a explanation if u still have the problem
can you tell me the screw size for fixing the keyboard

Oh boy, you're really fast

I have only done this 4 or 5 times.... I had almost forgot (intentionally blocked from my mind) this process.
The video is far too fast to follow what you are doing...

How does your monitors don’t flicker while shooting ?

What tool do you use to remove the trackpad cover thing at 4:59?

What an absolute nightmare to replace. Guess I'll be turning down this job, nobody wants to pay enough for the labor required here.
Four thumbs up for Yngwie!
Ugh...hands were covering how the keyboard connector itself is re-attached. Anybody know how that actually works?
Does the battery need to be removed when only taking the keyboard off and not the touchpad?
If so, what tool did you use to remove the batteries?

Great video ! What kind of tool do you use to get the rivets off?

@@NorthridgeFix thanks!
Hey there. So I peeled off the keyboard backing and it appears healed in place by faceless metal rivets. Is this normal/will it still pop off? Thanks

what a pain in the ass! No way I'm ever doing that. I'd rather toss the thing and buy something else.

This, in my opinion, is a true testament to despicable design, regardless of intent.
What is the shape/size of the screw to fix the keyboard ?
amzn.to/2FXsy7M
Ah, the only one question is.. where I can buy new trackpad ?
Amazon
Or eBay
@@robmoser4485 thank you, already found it a year before on AliExpress :)

Whele to get keyboads? My model is obsolete. 2013 late. Mac Book Plo.
How much does this process cost at Apple
$600-$1300 without a warranty
Slightly less than the cost of a new laptop. That is by design.
