My take away this time was when he talked about dogs and the joy when they see their owners and the urgency to their lives. I am 62, just finishing my doctorate and was questioning why. This gave me a new appreciation and perspective. Thank you Steven for your Podcasts and I always learn so much from watching.

Dr. Tyson has often made me cry with lessons about the wondrous nature of the universe...and our relationship to it. However, this is the first time he has ever made me cry with stories about _himself, his family, and his experiences_ on this one tiny, blue speck that floats through it all. The man is such an excellent communicator. I love that he's sharing his _tricks._ 😉
As for death, his discussion about flowers reminds me of _Dead Poets Society._ "This same flower that smiles today, tomorrow will be dying." Carpe diem! Moreover, in the past, he has pointed out that, if we allow natural decomposition when we die, our atoms will become part of future plants, animals, water, air, people...everything. The beauty puts tears in my eyes.
P.S. I also love that he cries often. I spent my youth choking down emotions; "Boys don't cry," and "Don't give the bullies fuel," etc. Like him, once the gates opened...it all spills out.

Dear Neil Degrasse Tyson, we all need YOU, your beautiful teaching and your unique, engaging, empathic and scientific guidance.there is Nobody else like you!!! All of my Heart's Loving and Eternal Gratitude for sharing your reverence to the infinity of night sky where we all merge as one in our imagining and as one in our lostness in it's infinity.
Thank you the for inspiring the greater deepening of all imaginations, that includes perhaps every living creature... the insects, the fishes in the sea and all of the bigots too that won't admit their dumbfoundedness and wonder.
We are ALL listening... even the silent bigots as they hide their awe.
Thank you Dear Neil. YOU are the truest of teachers. My grandfather was quite a bit like you but his dearest soul passed on when I was 11 years old. There is an empty place in my heart that your wisdom reaches in a similar way as my grandfather did. You inspire and teach without prejudice or even a tiny pinch of calling on sub races invented by the cowardly lines some people like to live behind, (protecting their imagined differences of value, their imagined threat, their imagined superiority regarding other humans. Our Race, our species presents no preference when it comes to procreation and the beautiful blossoms that bloom in even the rarest of places, in even the places where humans make their most outwardly contrary and uncommon biological convergences.
Even the most imaginatively differentiated instistances of the hate that cripples in conformity the imaginations of the bigots clammy minds are made nill. They can't dance when frozen in their own icy brittle imaginations. They choose a willful paralysis of conscience and instead continue their un-educations as they de-learn skills, as they further deaden their imaginations as the walking bygone.
We all do hear you because the spoken TRUTH is truly all permerating; even as it (the truth) is denied it is well heard. ... and the spores will someday dominate even the most barren of minds and the most handicaped of un-living. They self exit by slow bigotry from their icy bygone un-alive lives.
Truth be told! .... if a bit indulgent and alot entertaining due to my everlasting enjoyment of "creative" writing.
Infinities of Love, of being and of gratitude to you!!!
Dear Neil Degrasse Tyson, Thank you to infinity and far beyond!!!

Steve, I really like that you allow your guest to answer the questions as they will, with as much time as they need...without leading them one way or the other. That's pretty rare these days. I came, I saw AND I REEEEAALLY enjoyed this conversation. Why?? because I got to see a side of Neil deGrasse Tyson that I never new existed. I wish he were my Communication professor when I was in college. For all his intelligence (or maybe because of it) he manages to keep his ego in check and THAT is necessary for meaningful communication....and inspite of your ignorant self, he''ll cause you to develop critical and thinking skills.
He cries, he cusses! That's a man who cares little for people's opinion of himself...and THAT's keeping it real son!! Now, after all these years of knowing of him through his work...I really wish he were my friend.
    This interview is a keeper!!😊

I love hearing Neil talk, an honest icon for me currently and in the past. What i genuinely love about a lot of these conversations is that the higher level of emotional intelligence an individual has it allows them to make better sense of the world by having an open mind, and this reinforces purpose. Once we have found 'purpose' as Horace Mann said we should 'be ashamed to die until we have scored some victory for humanity' which to me, means allowing your gifts to benefit the world.

@Noelle Leger I don't directly disagree what you said is possible. I want to present a layman's terms counterargument. You have a friend who is morbidly obese (350 pounds). You see him in class and he sits in a chair that seems to bear his weight ok. After class he begins to stand one chair on the other until he is four chairs high (these chairs do not nest inside each other). He somehow makes it to the top. Someone flies an RC plane with fireworks into the legs of the chair hes on. The legs begin to burn and somehow he isn't effected by the fire manages to dodge it. As the legs burn on the top chair theres a sudden crash as the chair gives and he comes smack down on the second chair. His 350 pound weight that normally would be supported falls 18" onto the second chair. It pancakes and breaks. The third chair now takes his weight plus 36" of fall minus any degredation of force by the second chair absorbing some of the impact. Sadly the first and second chair pieces are still under his bottom adding to his overall weight. He pancakes the third and finally the fourth landing in spectacular fashion.
So you and I we are engaging in some speculation. There are models that can be run where if we know how much a floor weighs and how much the beams can support we can determine why the floors will collapse onto each other.
I believe Kennedy was not killed by the mafia or Russians. I believe global warming is a false flag by both the republican and democratic parties to make the american public believe running the water while brushing our teeth and driving cars that run on gasoline somehow is destroying the Earth when massive massive amounts of radioactive, chemical and other wastes are causing the issue, and by focusing on nonsense it keeps the politician's corporate lobbyists happy that no reduction in emissions (which are tied to net profit) will occur.
Having said all that i'm willing to give your theory all the consideration due. I have read this theory before. The next play someone who believes this will focus on is the beams melting and the forces required to melt them enough to weaken. I threw this angle out after talking to a steelworker. If you picture red hot metal a blacksmith is working on he is able to shape the metal even fold it over itself at a certain temperature. So the secondary argument is theres no way the beam melted through. It didn't have to melt through it just had to become soft enough to give. I've never read a theory that addressed these two issues to my satisfaction and people with more knowledge than me of physics or metalworking have delved into these.
I'm not saying you are right or wrong. I truly believe the ufo's we see are either extra terrestrial or from the red flags country - there simply is no explanation that makes a bit of sense why they are appearing now and can move the way they do. I think theres an outside chance they are made by the Americans using technology found with alien spacecraft. So i'm open to diverse ideas.
If you ever want to know if a "CS" is true pay attention to how the media reacts to it. Impartial media is a myth. They are on the take for the highest bidder. That means.. well i'll let you think about what that means.

Something that has often been said in the spiritual community, but it takes it to another level to hear a scientist say this.
This was a powerful podcast and my favourite to date. Mr Tyson speaks with such gravitas and wisdom, I absorbed every word. For a man who has made his life's work about space, he is incredibly down to earth, motivational and inspirational. Thank you for this interview! 💖

@@LMVG2233UT Austin advisors during his masters program implored him to find another career. He was a HORRIBLE lab student. Fact
At Columbia for his PhD, other grad students had to do the math for this thesis. Fact.
When he was hired at the planetarium, his first major job was to oversee the refurbishing (construction) of the facility.
      I ask you:
      - how many real scientists do you know who are extroverts? I know NONE.
      - show me a video of NDT doing PhD level mathematics

Absolutely fantastic interview. Over the years I have watched more Neil deGrasse Tyson interviews, commentaries & speeches than I can remember. I have his Master Class on DVD, own every single book he's written (in physical form) and even paid for a UA-cam Premium subscription for the sole purpose of being able to download all his videos on to a backup drive so we'll have them available in the event of some catastrophic apocalyptical happening that shuts down our communications infrastructure. A scenario in which we will probably need them the most. Yet never, and I mean never, have I seen someone inspire so much genuine, honest emotion in a man who can often be described as being as objective and stoic as possible without being dead. This is my first time to your channel and generally speaking I never kiss on the first date but given your prodigious yet accessible content I feel safe in succumbing to that sometimes ignominious subscribe button and actually look forward to what I would normally consider just another annoying notification. Please feel free to send The Hikyaku my way. You earned it. Thanks.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson was willing to throw the scientific method aside to push a political ideology, he has no credibility left. He lied, he brought shame to science, and he is still doing so. Science is not a religion, it demands people question it. Tyson and others who say science should not be questioned are zealots, fanatics, not scientists

I absolutely love Neil DGT saying: "No. Repeat it. I'am from the human race." when his interviewer fell for the anthropological trap instead of seeing the human continuum. Steven became decisive, even angry about it. The aliens should meet you first, Steven, to get a kind of introduction to humankind. ❤🌠
