Always coming with the dope videos
Thanks bro
I created my own strip using separate processors. As of now my vocal chain consist of the WA12 MK2 black mic preamp from Warm Audio, and behind that I chained an LL2A compressor limiter from Little Labs, and then I have a channel from my Pro VLA 2 optical compressor chained behind that. I only incorporate the VLA when I want some extra grit/warmth. My next piece will be the Art Voice Channel. Very dope channel strip. That channel strip you have is dope though. One love.
Man, that's awesome that you created your own strip. That's pretty much how I truly prefer it as well but this channel strip is a winner. Thanks for sharing your channel strip setup.
Dang it sounds good!!!!!!! I was gonna the cheaper preamp from UA but you just changed my mind.
Thank you so much. The 610 solo is basically the preamp section of these channel strip I'm talking about and it's right at $1k. Thanks for dropping by brother.
Just put in the order for mine at Vintage King. Can't wait!!!
That's so awesome. Let me know what you think when it arrives!
Got one here in Vegas. Congratulations on the additional family add on's.
Thank you all for watching.. The Universal Audio 6176 vintage channel strip makes my vocals sound so thick and crispy! Be sure to check it out here ✅👉🏾 imp.i114863.net/yRRJvW
I heard the fantastic crooning
Just got mines today 🔥
Congratulations, you have very good content, can you help us with some presets to record voices with the 6176? Thank you.
The Universal Audio 610 might be my favorite Mic Pre, but then there’s the API, the vintage Neve(s), Focusrite Red 1 and their ISA line based on the 110. The 2-610 was amazing and I can’t understand why UA stopped producing it. Two Neumann TLM 103’s in a spaced pair configuration over a baby grand piano through a 2-610 always treated me right! At least for times when I wanted an ooey gooey full piano sound! I love your content, Archie!
ive owned the 2-610 & 2-1176 for over 10 yrs now
Oooh, great content - subbed
Thank you so much! 🙏🏾
I get mine tomorrow!
Archie Beatz, Do you have a demo of what the Rode NTK through the 6176 sounds like? I have a Rode NTK as well I'm very close to buying the 6176 but my only reference is the UAPlugins & Unison Preamp via the Apollo Solo. If you could even describe what it sounds like that would be great help too. I'm looking to tighten up the NTK at recording vocals.
I’m very curious as well as to how what flavor of distortion the preamp causes
Compared to the 610 which one would be better in your opinion strictly for vocals?
Great video as always! Quick question I’m tracking r&b & hiphop vocals with a u87ai would you recommend this 6176 channel strip, over the neve1073 paired with a distressor?
Thank you! UA 6176 is amazing for R&B and Hip hop with the U87 Ai. With that being said, the Neve 1073 & Distressor is great as well. Just a different sound. You will still get amazing quality. It's all about preference you know. I hope this helps.
Thanks man! I’ll be setting up my outboard gear this weekend! Really excited to finally own some! Definitely going to tag you on Instagram lol thanks always 🙌🏾
Currently run a Lauten Atlantis (Forward Mode) into a Newton Channel. Selling my Newton, it doesn’t really add anything except more high end (my voice is already very crispy). I’ve narrowed it down to either getting the 6176, OR getting Neve 1073SPX for the low end warmth and save up for a comp to smooth things out.
My goal is add some “sweetness” “weight” “mojo” to my vocal chain, but not harsh.
Any advice brother??? Appreciate you as always
These vocal microphones you promote are they solely for r&b signing? Could they also be as effective for clear high quality hip hop lyrics
Good Stuff!
Thanks bro
Dope🔥
great video fam
Thanks Wallace 🙏🏾
Hi Archie, love your channel man!... ¿What do you think of the UA LA610 MKII compared to this yummy 6176?
I had a 610mkii for a couple weeks - loved the preamp (same on both units as far as I know) but the LA-2A style of compressor wasn't always the flavour I needed, it's fixed ratio and doesn't include ATK/RLS settings. The 1176 compressor is so versatile and therefore I think it's the better option for most people, albeit more expensive. Plus you don't have the separate in/outs for pre/compressor components on the 610mkii
What settings on rap vocals with using this unit would work best
hello Archie, I have problems with my home studio and recording audio. I have the sterline mic, Apollo twin interface thonder ball, but I feel that I do the right set up with UA 610-B. Can you help me?
i'm gonna buy this shit for my u87 sound's gold !!
Do you have a neve 1073 preamp to compare it to the 610? I like the 1073 just a bit better but the 610 sounds amazing too.
Hi Rob. I don't have a Neve 1073 physical unit but I do have the Neve 5211 which is my main preamp. I only use the 1176 side of the 6176 for my vocals. So I'm a Neve man myself. The 610 is great but I find it better if vintage style vocals
I really liked my 6176 but only used the 1176LN because I found the preamp section sounded too old school (60's style) for the type of rap I do.
While I really liked the compressor section of the 6176, I have to say that the UA 1176LN sounded better as a standalone unit.
Curious as to what u mean by 60’s style. I do rap and R&B with a bright voice and mic, so the last thing I need is more distortion or the wrong color.
Thanks in advance
I have an Apollo twin mk2. I use the Avalon 737 preamp plugin to track vocals. My question is, is that enough to get professional sounding recordings, or would I have to get an hardware external preamp to achieve that quality? Also I have a Neumann 87ai mic.
No you don't need it..but honestly software doesn't beat the real deal..you feel & hear the weight it adds
Whatever works for you is the answer. You can certainly get "pro" results with just working "within the box", but it doesn't hurt when and if you decide to get into tracking and processing with hardware. Hardware certainly gives you a more in depth sound, but if you know how to work the plugins the right way then the average listener won't be able to decipher the difference. If it sounds good, it is good. Just my opinion.
Thank you
The fact that you sang that so poorly (mic etiquette wise) at the beginning and it STILL sounded fire. This shit is the 🐐
😂
Now THAT;s what a professional singer sounds like... gorgeous performance, sir.
Wow! Thanks David.
I prefer the LA-610 MK2 because of the addition of the LA2A, but the 6176 is a very close second.. the 610 is my favorite pre so it always sounds good, hahah.
Versatile
I have the same gear u87 and 6176 both are classics keep until your dead gear
whats your best settings for 6176
Hello ! What do you think when recording 6176 + wram 2a ! Thank you
Hi! I'm actually testing this exact signal/vocal chain right now as we speak. Be on the lookout for the video within the next few weeks!
Guys can someone help me ?
I got an Apogee Quartet and I can’t connect my 6176 in it ! No noise, no mic, nothing working... if someone can help me...
just bought it awesome unit ordered it with the x6 together .. than I was like no 2k for all uad powered plugins? maybe shouldve gone for that instead of that unit even its straight magic with the u87 since I sold my old apollo w plugins .. anyways the ''3d'' sound of that unit is unbeatable for me in that price range.. Nevish pre's are good aswell but this just sound different not to generic that's everyone using
Gude ,
Just wondering what youve mounted the 6176 to while doing this video? What kind of stand is that?
It's just a cheap monitor stand that I use for displaying pro. Any monitor stand will work, as long as the weight spec matches up. I hope this helps.
@@archiebeatz it does help, thank you very much, subbed!
6176 or Manley core?
this or avalon 737 for my U87 ? Thanks so much for your channel, learning everyday with your videos man
you will get great results with both.....the avalon is a bit brighter but still smooth and a little more versatile. I love the 610 sound too, but more vintage up front. both can be eq'd to sound similar the other. The comp is more versatile and faster on the 6176 , basically a tube 1176 which is nice. The avalon has an optical comp/limiter which is like having a really versatile LA2A.
I like how you sing. How did you learn how to sing?
Thank you. I just started singing r&b songs I heard on the radio. Then one day I sang for a group of girls in 3rd grad and they hyped me up 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂 we need to get you a better microphone now 🎉🎉🎉 thanks for the video.
get the Flock audio Patchbay....digitally controlled analog patchy.
I’ve heard great things about it but I’m personally an analog physical patchbay guy. It’s my vibe and now that I’m diving into synthesis, physically patching in is the vibe lol
I guess when you dish out the $3'250 for a U87, you have every right to call it "Norman".
I thought you couldn't bypass the Apollo preamp?
You can’t bypass on the twin and twin x but you can on the rack units. I use my rack Apollo 8 quad for tracking at the home studio and the twin x quad for my monitoring cascaded unit.
@@archiebeatz fasho I'm gonna look more into it thanks
I get a hiss from my UA when it's plugged into my audio interface.
Hey what's up bro? Have you switched out the cables. Also, make sure you have line activated instead of microphone in the console control panel. Then make sure the line level gain knob is all the way down. I hope this helps.
@@archiebeatz I got it, it was the cord, but the meters don't jump. I'm confused but i got the input on 6 and the output at 5, level at 5.5,
@@archiebeatz Thanks for reaching out too man, that's big.
What's good bro
Hey Calvin!! Not much just working and spending time with the family. How is everything?
@@archiebeatz blessings Archie and I'm good just working hard and trying to make a difference
Is it better then the Avalon?
2 different sounding channel strips but pretty much equal in quality. I prefer the 6176 because it sounds really musical... I know that sounds odd but it’s just the feeling. I hope this helps.
The Avalon is overrated. I've heard several people who own it say the compressor is straight garbage. People get excited when they hear the name Avalon because of the many big names that have used it over the years, but I would never buy one with all of the other options out here that have better components nowadays. If you want to really get deep build your own channel strip using separate processors. Separate mic pre, separate compressor running into yet another compressor, and voila. Just make sure you don't come cheap. Spend a decent amount on your mic pre and so forth. You'll be a lot happier when you piece your chain together yourself.
💯
Thanks bro!
I guess it is quite off topic but do anyone know of a good place to watch new series online ?
@Grey Malachi i use FlixZone. Just google for it :)
@Brooks Tyler yea, have been using Flixzone for since april myself :D
@Brooks Tyler Thank you, signed up and it seems to work =) Appreciate it!!
I guess you never recorded with the Neve Shelford
Every song I’ve recorded in the last 2 months have been on the Neve 5211 preamp. Which is dropping soon. I mainly use the 1176 LN section of the 6176. This review was to focus on the UA 6176 as a whole. The neve video is dropping soon as well 🙏🏾
Which is better choice between the two guys? NEVE SHELFORD OR UA 6176? What are the differences in flavors or colors?
You forgot to show how to connect the cables connection from where to where in the backthe 6176
thanks for the videoo archie..make thomman.de affiliate link with gear for us europeans!!
In this video it’s working, but in the last video it wasn’t working
I have one!
@Doctaj54
how many subs I gotta get for ua to send me gear lol
Lmao life is good when you get sum like that duh 😒
Lmao! It definitely is. Especially studio life, lol.
Im starting not to like you Archie.... why?? Because you have all the cool stuff.
Hahahaha 🙌🏾🙏🏾
If a piece of hardware is not stereo, it's useless to me...
the downside with hardware is that you can only use it once in a session
That's actually not true. You can send the audio back out to the gear and back into the interface.
@@LashonEvans216 you can you it on a track or on a bus group...and that's it..but you can print the audio.
Not true. You can use it as an insert, print the track, and then use it as another insert.
@@lightafluident.9950 I didn't actually think of dat.
Hi i was wondering can you record through the ua 6176 directly into an ipad or iphone on bandlab software?
Yes, but again pay attention to the but.
This pre-amp and most pre-amp have a very high gain and so you have to watch out for over-loading your inputs.
All this is, is simply a pre-amp, and it has a line out which you can feed to any source.
However, the lineout is balanced and so you want to make sure you are feeding this into a balanced input.
Just watch your gain or the output if you are using the compressor and you should be fine.
Why do all the blacks sing the same
Dope🔥
Thank you!
