- This video portrait of a Red-eyed Vireo features my best footage from several sessions on May 16 & 17, 2010, at Land Between the Lakes Kentucky.
This species is sometimes called "The Preacherbird" because the male repeats his sermon (song) over and over from daybreak until dusk. One researcher actually followed a male for a whole day and counted a whopping 22,197 songs-geeze, you'd think he'd get a sore throat!

A University of Michigan student at their biological station recorded the number of times a Red-eyed Vireo sang in a single day. I believe the number was in excess of 1200 times.
