The more terminals you get the more sadder and creepier it gets and it also shows that mipha doesn't want link to fight waterblight ganon and doesn't want him to leave while in the other divine beasts the theme gets more hopeful
And this is why out of all the divine beasts, this one had the most significance to me. It's just a shame that this is the one I was first guided to, the first time I played this game. All the other Divine beasts felt lackluster by comparison
Each of the divine beasts themes are essentially the champion’s final moments given musical form. You can hear the entire struggle evolve and go from bad to worse.
Something that almost no one noticed: from 00:00 to 1:20 if you listen to song with headphones you will notice that each part of the song representing Mipha comes from the leftside, and each part representing Ganon comes from the rightside. SOS signal on the left, SAD signal on the right. Every "echoing" note is on the lrft, every distorted note is on the right. The only thing present on both is the piano, which probably represents Ruta. This piece is true genius.
After the first phase, for the rest of the song the SOS signal is gone. It's only SAD on both left and right but with different pitches and timings, also every note comes from both directions. From the second phase on, it's only Ganon.
I think while the other champions fought the blight, Mipha hid. That's why the music gets creepier the longer you hear it, because the blight slowly starts getting closer and closer. The Morse code even speeds up the longer you hear it.
The thought of Mipha hiding somewhere within Vah Ruta, hearing the malice choking the Divine Beast and tearing it from her control as the Blight gets closer and closer as she frantically sends the SOS again and again and again until it finds her is just horrifying
@aliteralpotato873 It was actually more sadistic. Waterblight Ganon froze all the water within Vah Ruta to cull Mipha's survival chances at fighting back or escaping. Still, the Search and Destroy signals hardwire some pretty dark headcanons to the fear the Champions felt, knowing there is an unknown unfiltrator aboard their Divine Beast.
I think Mipha tried fighting at first, but Waterblight landed a severe hit on her, maybe cutting one of her arms off with his harpoon, and after that, she had no choice to hide and wait to bleed out, or to be found and finished off.
I am not sad, I’m fucking terrified. This music is scaring me with all the Morse code beeps and the long piano notes. But at the same time all the divine beasts were fun to save.
I can't believe no one has mentioned this, but the moment when the SOS starts dying out around 5:10, is when the organ representing Ganon's motif kicks in strongest. Ganon is in complete control at that moment
@@Silksper It is only in Ocarina of Time, towards the end of the game, we are shown that Ganon/dorf demonstrated exceptional skill in playing the pipe organ. An eight year-old me even applauded Ganondorf's performance, right before he challenged Link and I to the memorable energy ball tennis match.
Actually, if you listen closely, the SOS signal is gone from 1:20 onwards, after the first phase only SAD signals can be heard (Search and destroy). So probably mipha died way earlier.
I remember hearing Ruta's theme for the 1st time, it sounded way more haunting than the others. The gentle music box paired with the grim piano gave such a ghostly vibe
The SAD (Ganon's) signal transmits earlier than the SOS (Mipha's) signal. He was already in the beast on his prowl for her. Then after the first Terminal, their fight begins. After second terminal Mipha is gravely injured (synthwaves inducing flowing blood), after third Ganon takes on bringing the beast under his control while Mipha bleeds out. She can only watch in horror, as her live slowly flows out of her.
Fun Fact: SOS, while used as a way to signal for help, does not actually stand for anything. Though it is commonly believed to mean "Save our Ship", the actual explanation for this iconic sequence of letters is the distinctly simple tone they create in Morse Code. 3 Dots, 3 Dashes, 3 Dots. It's so distinct and easy to hear, it was adopted as the "Help" signal so operators can get to the emergency as quickly as possible amidst the plethora of other messages they would receive. After Radio Communication became mainstream and Telegraph became obsolete, the real meaning of SOS was muddled, leading to the common error it is an acronym.
To me this one thematically is the most disturbing, and tragic in terms of musically what it conveys. There's the scary tension around in the electro interaction and it makes you kind of dizzy, then you have the stressed piano accents punctuating the mournful theme. I think it beautifully conveys her tragic story and her unfulfilled love for Link. That is how this music gets that meaning. I get these sick chills each time I hear this.
The emotional weight of this song. Vah Ruta in total is a symbolism for Mipha’s sadness. She’s been trapped along with Ruta for 100 years. She knows her people are suffering without her. She doesn’t want link to fight the blight ganon and she especially doesn’t want him to leave because of how much she loves him. I cried when I released her and Vah Ruta from ganon. I cried because I knew she was free. Her suffering was over. The suffering of her people was over
@@DrLinkyokay. You don’t need to say anything. Also, someone pointing out a story bit and being sad over it because it tends to be sad and has some sort of reflection of life doesn’t make them a fish simp. Smh
I honestly feel sad and hopeless listening to this theme, it feels like no matter how hard you try you won't win, a gruesome and horrific death is always there and waiting for you. Every. Single. Time.
@Isabella Van Ginkel nope, i finished normal mode champion's ballad, but i haven't played master mode much recently. i'm currently about to face waterblight.
@Isabella Van Ginkel nope, champion's ballad is like an extra set of challenges, but the battle does get harder but it isn't impossible, or like thubderblight
I like the assessment but she died a ling time before Link went in so I don’t think the song is supposed to be about her dying. It could be that her soul isn’t hanging on like how Zelda was getting weaker when Link woke up.
@@MrGnastygnate the song is kinda both actually. You've probably heard of the SOS and SAD signals in the background, each representing Mipha's cry for help and Waterblight hunting her. Also, unlike the other themes where the song gets more hopeful (Medoh's also becomes more panicked) as you activate more terminals, Ruta's get's sadder, as if Mipha doesn't want Link to risk himself dying to the same thing she died to.
this track is amazing. in the other divine beasts, you can hear hope as you progress, but in vah ruta, you only hear hope in the beginning. Mipha is happy to see you at first, but she realizes this means you'll have to fight the beast that killed her. The theme goes from hopeful to desperate, a warning. Mipha is begging you to live, and to her, that means leaving.
100 years Link devoted to be revitalized from how weak he was. 100 years Link has looked after those who survived the calamity. And finally when him and Mipha finally got to be together again, "She Wasn't There"
These tracks are truly haunting. Some people a lot of people seem to notice is the desperation the champions had while they were fighting for their lives. However I think there's another reason as well. The Champions were caught completely by surprise by the calamity, and when fighting against the blights, they weren't just fighting to save their lives but to save all of Hyrule. They knew the damage Ganon would cause if they didn't win, so their desperation is twofold; to save their own lives and to not fail Hyrule. If you asks me that makes the despair in these Divine Beast tracks even more tragic. Not only did they realise they were going to die, but that they were not able to perform their duty and save Hyrule. The rising panic in the music illustrates that beautifully.
Age of Calamity shows that they fought at night as well. They all died alone, afraid and watching their kingdom crumble from an insidious monster in the dead of night. It's worse for Revali though. His people have poor night vision meaning he fought Windblight in conditions similar to how Rudania looks when we arrive
@hylianhero1921 It was also wet. I remember somewhere that it states that Rito feathers are waterproof, but it still causes a hindrance to flight (?). Also, the only people, or species, capable of getting up to Vah Medoh were the Rito.
The fact that it started with the SAD (search and destroy) morse code before the SOS shows how outmatched mipha was against waterblight It managed to overlap the SOS signal with its malice which makes this more depressing
I just imagine Mipha hiding somewhere using morse code whilst blight is searching, scanning the area and using sad code as its trained to search and destroy... as its getting closer to Mipha she panics and uses the code faster and faster then when the music speeds up at 4:46 that's when she's found and the very short battle begins then when the music changes at 5:45 her death painful death happens
Very crazy detail nintendo has put to a game which seems like there's no very horrific stuff at all, except for cucoos, they are terrible, also I wondered about something, why didn't the respective region people for the divine beasts cared to check the beast to see if the champion doing fine? Maybe the champions could have a back up emergency instead of sending out a sos which no one can hear except for ganon and guardians
@@trustyrusty6969 I think nobody can't get in the the Beast, except the champions. And when, the Beast are defending them selves and attacking the everyone else. Man, hearing this music while writting this comment makes me sad...
@@trustyrusty6969 In Age of Calamity, you actually need help from the little guardian to access each the Divine Beast, so I guess they couldn't enter even if they wanted to.
Yea, the way i imagined it was the game explained the spirits of the champions were trapped in the controlled beasts, so when the music in Vah Ruta was getting more intense it was her soul/spirit being taunted/tortured while trapped by the dark malice of the blight ganon
phase 1: 0:01 phase 2: 1:19 phase 3: 2:11 phase 4: 3:02 phase 5: 3:54 final phase: 4:45 With each phase comes an increase in tension and desperation. In terms of musical storytelling, I'd say this track is one of the best in the game.
You're very right on this one. This is probably the first one you'll reach ingame. And it prepares you very well for the rest of the beasts. This is so good, that if you close your eyes you can see Mipha hide and Waterblight teleport through the beast to search her. Just use your imagination. It 's so good. It's on final fantasy level.
At 1:20 The beeping becomes rapid, almost like Mipha was desperate for help, Like she instantly knew she wouldn't be able to fight on her own and she was sounding the SAD alarm off to Let the team know she was hidden and in danger so each electronic gush you hear, It's almost Waterblight was getting closer to where she was hiding that's when the alarm would sound for SAD, It got quicker and as soon as the music picked up, He had found her But she was still sounding SAD Off that's when it stops soon after, As she's focused on battle that soon lead to her painful death
You know, I kind of like the idea that she hid first and desperately called for help. Mipha doesn't seem like a coward in the slightest but even a skilled hero and someone like her can be scared witless, running for her life. When found and forced to battle she probably put up one hell of a fight
I think doing the Champion's Ballad DLC really puts all the Champions fights into perspective. As the player, we have way more weapons, etc at our disposal. But forced to fight the Blights with only what the Champions had, it's much more challenging. I don't think I ever hit the ice blocks back at Blight in the regular playthrough, but I was forced to in the Champions Ballad.
Damn, youre right! I never made this connection, but damn! Those fights were a whole nother level going in "unprepared" (which the champions could not have been prepared for THAT)
Poor girl didn't stand a chance. Man, the Champions deserved so much better. That must’ve been terrifying to reach a place you think you'll be safe, onlu to be ambushed by a monster designed to kill you...
It gets creepy as soon as she sends out her signal. Waterblight crept up on her. It made it haunting for her. She was terrified and the music turns from haunting to both haunting and desperation near the end
The beginning piano melody represents Mipha, and it already dies out after terminal 1, including the SOS signal, then it is replaced by SAD signal from Ganon. She died probably very fast, impaled very suddenly then crushed by ice, and nothing was left but a red bloody spot on the ice. She couldn't fight back because Ganon turned the water into ice.
Ruta is the saddest one to me, it’s literally Mipha seeing her would have been fiancée once more. No possibility of going back to how things once were. Rlly sad.
I don't know why, but the divine beast themes calm me. It's just enough amount of eerie scary, knowing that their spirits are still alive and guiding you, but neverthless they died a gruesome death fighting the Ganons. There's no real enemy, you're just solving puzzles, but the air is thick with ominous music telling you how fragile life can be. Even that of heroes. It makes you prepare for your own death no matter what form it may take. Without being too obvious about it.
1:19 I almost started crying wtf Mipha and Sidon are by far my favorite characters?? And when it got more intense like that it reminds me of the battle and how desperate she probably got and **screams** _why_
All the Divine Beasts have a somewhat forboding atmosphere but... this one gets me so badly. The music gives it the atmosphere of a graveyard. Worse still in my first playthrough I didn't know what to expect, so I had the constant fear of finding Mipha's corpse.
Yeah... what even happened to the champions' bodies? I always thought the Blights just yeeted them out. I'm going with that, because my insides never smelled like a fish market
Not even an unpopular take. As time goes on, more and more will come to this. They threw out so many unique aspects of BOTW in favor of HALF MEASURES (the temples, for example, in TOTK were failed attempts at classic dungeons, and were downgraded Divine Beasts that took away the aesthetic that made those unique: taking back control of a cursed mech and freeing the soul of your comrade from basically hell). I can only say this in hindsight (now that we know the TOTK temples, except for the lightning temple perhaps, were a failure), but they should have doubled down on divine beasts, but somehow make them more complex like classic dungeons AND give them more unique theming (one thing that TOTK did better). And give us more of them, maybe 8? BOTW 2 could have been as industry changing as BOTW, but in the end it just felt like DLC to me (even if techbically it has to much effort poured to be called DLC, it still feels like it). Instead, we got a good game in TOTK that fails to live up to its legacy unfortunately. All the blabbering to say, i agree with you lol
Listening back to this, there’s a chilling shift between the intro and terminal 1. In the beginning you clearly hear Mipha’s SOS signal in the left channel and Waterblight Ganon’s SAD in the right. Once the track shifts, the entire piece gets darker and the signals get much more erratic and start overlapping. However, when you listen closely, Mipha’s SOS is gone, it’s only SAD.
I can’t help but notice during Mipha’s final moments, the song shifts into what sounds like a lullaby. Remember when Mipha gave Link her blessing, and told him to take care of Zelda. I think she’s realizing he won’t be alone here. And having faith that Zelda will awaken her power and protect him.
Miphas divine beast themes were just perfect. They really captured her essence in both songs. Just listening impacts you so hard. It just makes the whole thing feel as tragic as it is supposed to be. It’s definitely the best divine beast theme of all of them. You don’t have to listen to hear Miphas sorrow.
I honestly prefer Vah Medoh's more for how haunting and very desperate it sounds. All of them are perfect! But Vah Ruta is surely moreso having a very forbidden atmosphere. All the more, a graveyard like atmosphere. Vah Medoh is my favourite theme in the game and the series, but Vah Ruta is very special!
The first time I entered Ruta, it was with the shared hope of the Zoras to find her. But the more the music changes, the more we understand that something serious has happened and that the chances of saving Mipha evaporate. When I finished activating the 5 terminals, I understood by the music that it was far too late and that I was heading towards the cause of his death. Later, I learned of the existence of the SOS and SAD morse codes which punctuate the music. Despite that, I felt the urgency, the distress, the sadness, probably unconsciously. This music is simply incredible in its construction. The clear sound that opposes distortion, the long and rare low notes to the panic of short high notes, the SOS decreases while the SAD grows. A masterpiece. ❤
I believe for mipha she wasn’t prepared to fight so she hid as much as she could and rang SOS but then in the end she died For revali i think he wanted to hold out until the other champions were saved and that’s why you here the Signal loud For daruk its a bit quiet like he wanted the others to get saved first And for urbosa she kept on fighting but was also sending sos signals but the loud boom is probably lightning striking her
revali's was rushed and felt panicked, it was when he gave up his pride and realized shit got real ..urbosa was electrocuted twice and beheaded or split in 2 as people say
The sos beeping starts at 1:20 and ends at 5:32 meaning at 5:32 is when Mipha died whats more it's subtle but you can slowly hear blights theme bleeding over to the left over taking Mipha's😢
I love what happens at 1:20 when the melody of the chimes goes up. Together with the bass of the piano, an enormous tension arises, which heats up the atmosphere to bursting due to the extreme distance in pitch.
At 4:45 you can hear a super faint heartbeat. If you ask me I think its either to show how scared Mipha was before she died or shes nervous that waterblight ganon is going to kill link too.
While listening to this, knowing about the SOS calls in the theme, knowing botw very well, and reading comments about her situation, I literally saw in my mind, the battle between her and waterblight, the desperation, the dread, the fear of dying, the weight of her regrets, her sadness, EVERYTHING was made into this song. If you listen closely, and just try to imagine, you will see the gruesome encounter, the hunt, and the death of mipha. In some places during the end of the theme, you can hear a guardian beam charging. And then her piano disappears…
@@Blackgold272_Laura Well, it starts right at the very beginning, you just need to turn the volume up, and press your headphones a bit. (Edit: I'd recommend turning the _video_ volume up, if you're using pc, and in case you haven't understood it yet, the S.O.S signals are in morse code, you hear the boops quite loud in this theme in particular.) (Edit 2: I saw a comment saying that it lasts until 5:35, but I could only hear it until 5:10, after that, it suddenly stops.)
This music is terrifying and sad at the same time. The SOS code almost immediately as the music starts showing Mipha knew she was outmatched and was probably struck down once she arrived. SOS 2x from 0:03-0:10, SOS 4x from 0:26-0:41, SOS 2x from 0:57-1:04, then a strand of beeps that I can't quite decode (I know next to nothing abt morse code) that last from 1:20-5:31 that repeat ~30 times. Begins to fade at ~15x, speeds up ~4:47, ends at 5:31, then resumes faintly at 5:51 but fades out, and the song ends before it can finish. I'm working to decode it, though some things might be wrong ive checked it like 100 times lol, I'll put it below for anyone who can make it make sense. Mystery Strand: ••-•--•-••-•--•-••-•--•-••-•--•••••
Les sons morses sont confondus dans la seconde partie et cela jusqu'à la fin où l'on entend faiblement le signal SAD et plus du tout le signal SOS (signe que Mipha est morte).
I remember feeling so out of my element when I first entered Vah Ruta (my first divine beast dungeon). I grew up with playing RPGs and adventure games so I thought I had seen all there was to see. I felt so unsettled and in over my head with this one.
Listening to this after reading the adventure logs has me tearing up 🥺 apparently Link and Mipha were childhood friends. And they loved each other. Enough that they were going to get married. But the war broke out before it could come to pass. The Zora armor was link’s wedding gift 😭
What makes me sad and angry about this song is not the SOS and SAD signals her father could most likely hear as well, it's the fact that she was only a child of 4 when this was happening and the father had no choice but to sit by as it happened. God no father should have to go through that.
Wait but she must have been way older? Sidon is her little brother and he's apparently 135 years old when Link awakens, which means he was 35 when Mipha was killed. So she must be older than 35. (but I agree it's incredibly sad, also she did die very young for a Zora since they apparently usually live well over 100 years)
Literally everyone: Gosh this soundtrack is so sad and creepy, poor Mipha ... Me:*just casually enjoying it due to its atmosphere* •>• y-yeah same over here
Wahnsinn.
Love makes people do things they normally cannot do, in this case it was piloting her dear divine beast Vah Ruta, lurking in the waters, unseen, unheard, her attacker was already there by the time she had arrived aboard, silent, awaiting her to discover it's hiding place, the instant it heard footsteps, it awoke, chasing her to her main console, and back, she manages to ignite her signal in panic, the other two soon followed, by now the water had froze over, the waterblight had spear in hand, no where to go, it..won't..would it, petrified and too young to fully comprehend, it strikes her down rather effortlessly, the last thing she heard was Revali's sos start playing.
In the beginning of the song i always imagine Mipha seeing Link returning with a sense of surprise and hope. Like saying "You're finally here! I missed you" followed by nostalgia and dread, she can't be near him (Physically) or hug him. For me this is the saddest Divine Beast Theme.
This theme is very spiritually significant to me, tho they all are. I feel like both Mipha & Vah Ruta are basically rooting for Link through all the instrumentation. The distorted noise at 0:13 - 0:56, 1:07 - 1:19 almost match up with the melodic succession of 1:48 - 1:54. The Spirit understands it's being set free. 3:54 Link's own working spirit showing itself through to them both If that makes sense...
The SOS signs lasted so long compared to the others, she may have been the last to die, couldnt get any help from others And nearing the end of phase 1 you can hear ganon's SAD before phase 2 with miphas frantic sos too
This is an interesting way to think about things. A lot of people say she was the first to die because of her early activation, but I’ve never thought of her situation this way.
Got to play this game just in 2023 and God, this has been stuck in my mind for months Can't bear how something that cute as that lullaby and frightening as Mipha's call for help sound this hopeless
the nostalgia of playing through this divine beast so many times with my dad, even getting so stressed out that I threw up lol just listening to this brings me to tears everytime :)
Its rapidly going off like she's begging at this point, Pleading almost, If you picture it, She was calling for help rapidly, And then the electronic gush you hear go by, waterblight was getting too close so she was calling for help Before she was found and slain
Funny you say that since this game felt like Metroid with all those futuristic weapons and gadgets attracting metal and what not plus the infamous sphere in every shrine just always gave me Metroid vibes !! 😂
Its so sad....she was trying to keep him away with how frantic those sos notes are. Shes worried, and was just trying to protect link as she once promised. God its both scary and sad.
Another thing i would like to mention in these themes is that later in the song if you are wearing headphones You can hear parts of the music that is present when fighting the scouts on the divine beasts on the left (Waterblight) Possibly implying when the blights took over or as a reference to when the champions were inevitably killed
The series of electrical dots and dashes in the beginning are Morse code. There are two notes that the two broadcasts are being sent in; one higher in pitch, one lower. The higher pitched broadcasts “• • • - - - • • •” or “S.O.S.”, an acronym for “Save Our Souls/Ships,” a general distress call that armies used when Morse code was applicable, and the acronym “S.O.S.” Still being used to this day. The lower pitched broadcaster, however, sends a more offensive code: “• • • • - - • •”, meaning “S.A.D.”, which when associated with military code, like SOS, means “Search/Seek And Destroy.” This command is given when an oppositional force attack from hidden or clandestine positions in an urban or open environment in which the defender has the upper hand. When S.A.D. is issued, troops are ordered by their NCO or CO to wipe out said hidden positions with lethal force if necessary or otherwise authorized. The higher pitched “S.O.S.” broadcast can be heard from the beginning of the theme to the 1:19 mark when the theme’s phase changes. However, from 1:19 on, mysteriously, the two higher and lower pitched broadcasts will emit the same code, “S.A.D.”, until both broadcasts cease. (It is easier to hear both individual broadcasts if headphones are worn). The higher pitched “S.O.S.” from 0:01 to 1:19 can be seen as Mipha’s broadcast to the rest of the Champion alliance, while the “S.A.D.” broadcast that conflicts with Mipha’s distress call can most definitely be seen as Waterblight Ganon intercepting commands from Calamity Ganon. Past the 1:19 mark, the SOS broadcast ceases from the higher pitched broadcaster, or Mipha. This unfortunately means Mipha was defeated fairly quickly by Waterblight Ganon. But what is mysterious about her later broadcasts is it matches the intercepted waves coming from Calamity Ganon. Could this mean that after the champions were killed, they were forced to join the blights, or at least their bodies were forced to join them, in their defense of the Divine Beasts until Ganon fully formed? I’m unsure, but this small piece of evidence certainly points toward it. It would also explain how Ganon’s Blights are so much similar to the Champions in body structure.
Everyone here is talking about the SOS signals, but nobody else hearing the SAD (seek and destroy) signals in any of these? My theory is it’s Ganon interfering with the SOS messages to throw off, or him corrupting some natural signal within the divine beasts such as an automatic SOS when in need.
Vah Ruta was my first Devine Beast, it only made me fall in love with Mipha more. (Respectfully) this song is so grave, almost devoid of hope, this is what it must have been like to live in Hyrule after the Calamity people had no idea if they would see there friends, family, or even loved ones again if ever, like Mipha. This song oozes loss and terror. Mipha she loved Link and never told him (outright anyway) imagine watching someone you love walk into the same trap that you did, the one that killed you. She believes in him, but she is still terrified. But by the time the song ends most of her worry is gone. She watched Link overcome challenge after challenge in Ruta, the song is almost urging him to finish, but still, there is a still some form of doubt in her head, what is scenarios left and right. That tension and worry, determination and trust, to me that is what makes this song as great as it is.
most of us willl know that in all divine beasts songs they have little sos signals in morse code its sad because the begining of the song is the beggining of miphas an the other champions battle a 100 years ago and the champions are asking for help just by seing their enemy and more sad ruta s song becomes more agresive more panick like especialy in the sos signals showing the despair of miphas in her battle like imagine being hunted by something created to kill you and you just know that your fate is writen thats sad that what this song is fun fact in medoh song the sos signal is later on the song probably because revaly pride maked him think that he was going to win and we all know what happend im not from usa or uk so i might have bad english because my native is spanish

The more terminals you get the more sadder and creepier it gets and it also shows that mipha doesn't want link to fight waterblight ganon and doesn't want him to leave while in the other divine beasts the theme gets more hopeful

with each phase, the piano sounds less like a piano and more like a "GODDESS HYLIA PLEASE FUCKING HELP ME IM GONNA DIE"
I can't believe no one has mentioned this, but the moment when the SOS starts dying out around 5:10, is when the organ representing Ganon's motif kicks in strongest. Ganon is in complete control at that moment
Yeah, you’re right! Ganon did have a thing with an organ, did he not?
@@Silksper It is only in Ocarina of Time, towards the end of the game, we are shown that Ganon/dorf demonstrated exceptional skill in playing the pipe organ. An eight year-old me even applauded Ganondorf's performance, right before he challenged Link and I to the memorable energy ball tennis match.
Its a piano though
F
Actually, if you listen closely, the SOS signal is gone from 1:20 onwards, after the first phase only SAD signals can be heard (Search and destroy). So probably mipha died way earlier.
I remember hearing Ruta's theme for the 1st time, it sounded way more haunting than the others. The gentle music box paired with the grim piano gave such a ghostly vibe
The music box is actually a celesta :)
Ikr so spooky
For me personally, vah naboris' theme sounds the creepiest. It sounds really ominous. Each theme is really good though.
I havent seen anyone talk about how the SAD signal plays before the SOS, implying that waterblight ganon reached mipha before she sent out the sos.
Thats horrible to imagine
That SOS were Her last words.
And also the sos becomes more rapid as time goes on. Implying that Mipha was desperate for help.
Or that he reached Ruta first and waited to ambush her.
After Radio Communication became mainstream and Telegraph became obsolete, the real meaning of SOS was muddled, leading to the common error it is an acronym.
no
To me this one thematically is the most disturbing, and tragic in terms of musically what it conveys. There's the scary tension around in the electro interaction and it makes you kind of dizzy, then you have the stressed piano accents punctuating the mournful theme. I think it beautifully conveys her tragic story and her unfulfilled love for Link. That is how this music gets that meaning. I get these sick chills each time I hear this.
...---...
It gets even more morbid. If you listen closely, you can hear a set of beeps within the track that make out SOS in Morse code.
in the 2 terminals active theme and on, i hear HELP in morse code.
in the 2 terminals active theme and on, i hear HELP in morse code.
Adding on...there is also an SAD (search and destroy) in the music as well, which could be coming from Waterblight. D:

The emotional weight of this song. Vah Ruta in total is a symbolism for Mipha’s sadness. She’s been trapped along with Ruta for 100 years. She knows her people are suffering without her. She doesn’t want link to fight the blight ganon and she especially doesn’t want him to leave because of how much she loves him. I cried when I released her and Vah Ruta from ganon. I cried because I knew she was free. Her suffering was over. The suffering of her people was over

The fact that it started with the SAD (search and destroy) morse code before the SOS shows how outmatched mipha was against waterblight
It managed to overlap the SOS signal with its malice which makes this more depressing
Thats so creepy, this sound is a whole creepypasta

Yea, the way i imagined it was the game explained the spirits of the champions were trapped in the controlled beasts, so when the music in Vah Ruta was getting more intense it was her soul/spirit being taunted/tortured while trapped by the dark malice of the blight ganon
phase 1: 0:01
phase 2: 1:19
phase 3: 2:11
phase 4: 3:02
phase 5: 3:54
final phase: 4:45
With each phase comes an increase in tension and desperation.
It's on final fantasy level.
revali??
Unlike the other beasts, it gets more and more tense (while the other beasts are inverted), showing that Mipha doesn't want Link to fight Waterblight.
So in the final phase it gives me chills because I did'nt want to fight water blight and after the blood moon jus jumped scare me
T H E S O S
At 1:20 The beeping becomes rapid, almost like Mipha was desperate for help, Like she instantly knew she wouldn't be able to fight on her own and she was sounding the SAD alarm off to Let the team know she was hidden and in danger so each electronic gush you hear, It's almost Waterblight was getting closer to where she was hiding that's when the alarm would sound for SAD, It got quicker and as soon as the music picked up, He had found her But she was still sounding SAD Off that's when it stops soon after, As she's focused on battle that soon lead to her painful death
For people who don’t know, SAD stands for Search and Destroy
What does the sad alarm sound like?
@@maxplaystds5225 ••• •- -••
You know, I kind of like the idea that she hid first and desperately called for help. Mipha doesn't seem like a coward in the slightest but even a skilled hero and someone like her can be scared witless, running for her life. When found and forced to battle she probably put up one hell of a fight
The beeps are quite literally SOS in morse..
The Zora arc was the best in BotW from a story perspective imo, and you can really feel it in this track
I can't choose between this one and Vah Medoh as my favorite Divine Beast song!
As a violin player that is my second choice too! I can't get over how epic it sounds and how it feels climactic.
Same here, but I made my decision. This one.
5:13 I think I just heard Mipha dropping her trident right after the SOS codes have stopped holy shit I think I’ll go cry
I believe that is the ice sound effect, probably waterblight slowly freezing all the water.
Mipha is fucking dead.
She didn’t have it in the first place sadly. She must’ve been just throwing random stuff at it
It’s the ice crushing her to death
Do not do this to me today.
The beginning piano melody represents Mipha, and it already dies out after terminal 1, including the SOS signal, then it is replaced by SAD signal from Ganon. She died probably very fast, impaled very suddenly then crushed by ice, and nothing was left but a red bloody spot on the ice. She couldn't fight back because Ganon turned the water into ice.
jesus christ man
Ruta is the saddest one to me, it’s literally Mipha seeing her would have been fiancée once more. No possibility of going back to how things once were. Rlly sad.
The fact that this theme started with the SOS call is so sad , no music before , she knew she was going to die and yet she fought for link :'(
I came to this vid because I find the theme calm and pleasant to listen to. This comment section was absolutely not what I expected...

I'm just gonna come right out and say it, I liked the Divine Beasts WAY more than the temples in TotK.

God this game is a masterpiece
The initial theme shift so perfectly reflects what happened. Innocent Mipha was murdered, a horrible tragedy.
I honestly feel like the whole story of mipha is sad. She loved link so much just to die and never be able to see him again.
this is literally the most disturbing, terrifying and saddest soundtrack out of all titans...
I believe for mipha she wasn’t prepared to fight so she hid as much as she could and rang SOS but then in the end she died
For revali i think he wanted to hold out until the other champions were saved and that’s why you here the Signal loud
For daruk its a bit quiet like he wanted the others to get saved first
And for urbosa she kept on fighting but was also sending sos signals but the loud boom is probably lightning striking her
revali's was rushed and felt panicked, it was when he gave up his pride and realized shit got real ..urbosa was electrocuted twice and beheaded or split in 2 as people say
Together with the bass of the piano, an enormous tension arises, which heats up the atmosphere to bursting due to the extreme distance in pitch.
this is my favorite song in the soundtrack because this is just so hauntingly beautiful
At 4:45 you can hear a super faint heartbeat. If you ask me I think its either to show how scared Mipha was before she died or shes nervous that waterblight ganon is going to kill link too.
SOS = ... --- ...
SAD = ... .- -..

(Edit 2: I saw a comment saying that it lasts until 5:35, but I could only hear it until 5:10, after that, it suddenly stops.)
The first minutes sounds like how you imagine "you're here, but it's too late, it already happened"
I remember feeling so out of my element when I first entered Vah Ruta (my first divine beast dungeon). I grew up with playing RPGs and adventure games so I thought I had seen all there was to see. I felt so unsettled and in over my head with this one.
The way I only replayed this divine beast is so I can listen to this horrific ost
At 1:20 the SOS and SAD signals seem like they are battling like Mipha and the blight. They get more prominent and sound even more destressed
(but I agree it's incredibly sad, also she did die very young for a Zora since they apparently usually live well over 100 years)
she's like teenager in Zora years

WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE TO MAKE HER DEATH REALLY SAD 😭😭 but seriously though your comment is actually really good writing
3:54 Link's own working spirit showing itself through to them both
If that makes sense...
The SOS signs lasted so long compared to the others, she may have been the last to die, couldnt get any help from others
And nearing the end of phase 1 you can hear ganon's SAD before phase 2 with miphas frantic sos too
This is an interesting way to think about things. A lot of people say she was the first to die because of her early activation, but I’ve never thought of her situation this way.
Got to play this game just in 2023 and God, this has been stuck in my mind for months

just listening to this brings me to tears everytime :)
The fact that Mipha’s sos call is the most quiet out of everyone else’s really makes me wonder why? Was she too weak by the time she called for help?
It starts out the strongest, for sure, but Mipha died pretty early on and didn’t get much of a chance to fight at all, so I guess it makes sense
She was slaughtered basically immediately Waterblight found her and she knew it was getting closer so I think it’s more so out of paralyzing fear.
The SOS Signal is Crazy
The fact that each theme has S.O.S in Morse code just for some reason adds a layer of fear to my listening of it
1:20 SOS signal becomes so hectic...
Its rapidly going off like she's begging at this point, Pleading almost, If you picture it, She was calling for help rapidly, And then the electronic gush you hear go by, waterblight was getting too close so she was calling for help Before she was found and slain
I just came from listening to Vah Medo (I think, whichever is in Rito) and this broke me hearing that the SOS signal starts immediately

Its so sad....she was trying to keep him away with how frantic those sos notes are. Shes worried, and was just trying to protect link as she once promised. God its both scary and sad.
Another thing i would like to mention in these themes is that later in the song if you are wearing headphones
You can hear parts of the music that is present when fighting the scouts on the divine beasts on the left (Waterblight)
Possibly implying when the blights took over or as a reference to when the champions were inevitably killed
2:28 this part is my favorite, because of how beautiful it's played. And it reminds me a lot of Davey Jones music box.
YESSS OMG potc mentioned!!
That’s sad and creepy
But also intresting😮
Everyone here is talking about the SOS signals, but nobody else hearing the SAD (seek and destroy) signals in any of these? My theory is it’s Ganon interfering with the SOS messages to throw off, or him corrupting some natural signal within the divine beasts such as an automatic SOS when in need.
Bet her dad and brother could hear this.
Idk where, but I saw a theroy somewhere about baby sidon following mipha into the Divine Beast
Oof
Didn't know this OST had so much meaning to it...
You don't know how much I like this song! I love it so much and I freed 3 of the divine beast and I'm only 9 year's old!
So far iv’e defeated 1 of 4 just today! (I’m the same age 2 lol)
That tension and worry, determination and trust, to me that is what makes this song as great as it is.
most of us willl know that in all divine beasts songs they have little sos signals in morse code its sad because the begining of the song is the beggining of miphas an the other champions battle a 100 years ago and the champions are asking for help just by seing their enemy and more sad ruta s song becomes more agresive more panick like especialy in the sos signals showing the despair of miphas in her battle
like imagine being hunted by something created to kill you and you just know that your fate is writen thats sad
that what this song is
fun fact in medoh song the sos signal is later on the song probably because revaly pride maked him think that he was going to win and we all know what happend
im not from usa or uk so i might have bad english because my native is spanish
That brings back some great memories
When i entered this devine beast (my first of all of them) I thought that the themes would be epic/challenging, not sad and terrific like this one. What a game was BOTW.
This song makes me wanna check for monsters under my bed.
watch out for the spear, it has long range
Best of all the Devine songs
