I agree that Joy Division are not a goth band. I blame the internet for spreading misinformation about them. I started listening to them in 87 and back then they were considered 'alternative'. The term 'post-punk' wasn't used in my area at all. I didn't know about that term until the internet came about. Punk never went away so the term has never made sense to me. I think 'alternative' is a better word to describe all of the bands that did not get a lot of mainstream attention in the 80's.

Joy division I never taught it was a goth band either but it still very goth esthetic. I feel it captures a lot of the feelings and thoughts of the gothic style and culture.
