Kathy Bates does star in two other Stephen King projects. After Stephen saw this movie he wrote the book, Dolores Clairborne, with her in mind playing the character. A movie was made with Kathy in the lead and Jennifer Jason Leigh as the main supporting character. When Stephen King did the Miniseries, The Stand, he wrote a DJ character called Ray Flowers and casted her as the character. She was great for what screen time she had.
When I first saw this film I was immediately drawn to Kathy Bates' accent because it sounded very familiar to me and I wondered if she was from my area. I was stunned to find that she was born and raised in my hometown of Memphis and we almost went to the same high school. I first saw her in 'Dolores Claiborne', another great performance, but she was using a Maine accent which is typical in Stephen King movies. She certainly made Memphis proud with this performance.
To be fair, the fireman's lift is designed to allow most people lift another human, even if they're far bigger. NOW yes, if it's a REALLY big guy and a small lady she'd be pretty much crawling to do it: but Kathy's playing a farm lady and former nurse who's getting by on her own, that requires some muslce.
48:40 "Dude, if you have the gun, just empty it _on_ her." Oh. You missed it. See, Annie explained that she had loaded _two_ bullets into her gun. In the fight, she had the gun pointed at Paul, pulled the trigger and hit him in the shoulder with _one_ of them, and then he successfully wrestled her to the ground with the gun in her hand, pointed off to the side and she hit the wall with the _other._ That was two bullets and they were both _used._ The gun _is_ empty.
Funfact: George R. R. As a typical guy who has no problem watching violence in movies, this is one of the few shows that normally gets a big "nope" from me all because of...well, you know. *cringe* I was also totally impressed by Caan's ability to whip up some very convincing, blood-curdling, and half-spitting screams throughout the movie when he wants to. It was a big deal when she won the Academy Award because it was the first time that a woman had won it without meeting the traditional definition of hot.
Great reaction/review! Copies were easy to make at the time - he could have saved his work on a computer (Apple Macintosh desktop, etc.), a word processor, saving work on a floppy disk, carbon typewriter paper, or a copy machine. Also, he could have faxed everything to his agent/publisher. It was just one of his superstitions/quirks/ preferences.
I've lost multi-years worth of work, a few times, in different areas of life and know the damage and feelings it can cause. If I was in that situation and she loved the book, even thought it was "Perfect", up to the last chapter, then I'd have really tried to covince her to just let me re-write the last chapter. Of course for the movie it helped being more.
In the book she was worse, if you can believe it. Instead of breaking his ankles she cut his foot off with an axe and cauterized it with a blow torch. She also cut his thumb off with an electric knife and put it on a cake like a candle. Oh, and she drove over the sheriffs head with a lawn mower!! Great reaction! You should watch The Dead Zone, it's great also!
Yes!!! I saw this film on CBS Sunday night Movie 15 years ago, going on 16, and this film scared the hell out of me! When I saw this film, I didn't know what it was about, then I realized it's about a famous author, believed dead after a car accident, is rescued by an obsessed fan whom forces him to write a new book just for her, or he'll face the consequences. From director Rob Reiner and from the novel by Stephen King.

I have watched movie Misery more than 10 times since I first saw it as a kid in 1992. Kathy Bates absolutely nailed it. I was surfing UA-cam today being bored and found this reaction video accidentally. Your comments literally made my day. Thank You for this video 🔥🙌🏻
Shree, Puh-Lease check out another Stephen King/Kathy Bates collaboration in "Dolores Claiborne". In some way it's not as scary as this film but in other ways it's even scarier. Extremely dark and emotionally heavy as well. Bates is even better in that film if you can believe that!
3:05 "The _road_ doesn't look pleasant enough to be driving this fast, and... this... carefree. My god." Yeah. That's what _I_ thought, and so far, this has been the sentiment of every _other_ reactor I've seen watching this movie. Understand, the posted speed limit is determined for road conditions that are _clear_ and _dry._ That's the posted speed limit under _ideal_ traction conditions. Under conditions of rain, snow and ice, you need to build in a _safety_ margin and travel a good ten to fifteen mph _under_ it. Also, bear in mind, this does not _change_ if your vehicle happens to be four wheel _drive._ Four wheel drive helps your vehicle _move._ It does not help your vehicle _stop._ Slow down.
Mmm, ok, but what snowstorm you say caused this? That was just another ordinary winter's day in Scandinavia. I think I've gone to school, skiing and driven to work in much harsher and colder weather, even camped out in the snow in total darkness sts. That said, when the outside temperature rises above 20 degrees Celsius I feel like I'm in a desert, nearing inhuman conditions. Jimmy Caan reminded me of the golden era of movies, like El Dorado. Recommend every Howard Hawks film, John Ford movie and Sir Alfred Hitchcock flick one can find. One movie trivia tidbit many don't know is that Hitchcock visited Finland once scouting for locations for his final film, a spy thriller. He gave an interview to one of the leading film buffs here about Vertigo (it was banned for decades) and it turned out that he had already drawn sketches for a spy chase and a boat escape here - both near my neck of the woods - well, literally. Unfortunately, his failing health put an end to those plans and 'Family Plot' remained his final hurrah.
I think one thing you _really_ have to admire about Stephen King is his _versatility_ as an author. I mean, there are books he has written that include the paranormal and the supernatural and there are books he has written that _don't._ There are books he has written for the horror genre and there are books he has written for _other_ genres. Usually, these two coincide, but not necessarily. _The Green Mile_ is a movie based on a book by Stephen King that has the paranormal but is _not_ horror. _Misery_ is a book that's horror that does not involve the _supernatural._ And you've really got to _admire_ the way King demonstrates how the _completely natural_ can be terrifying as _well._
11:49 "It's _not_ just great. It's... perfect." Now _here_ is the kind of warning sign I get the impression most people won't pick _up_ on. See, something can only be called "perfect" if it has no room for _improvement._ This is not a descriptor that can be accurately applied to _any_ human creation, but _especially_ a creation the quality of which depends on public _opinion._
37:26 No, no. Paul, those knives are too conspicuous. Annie is _accustomed_ to having those knives there. When she walks in and one is missing, she'll notice it right _away._ Take a knife from a drawer.

Annie might have been an attempt to portray a narcissist before narcissism was well understood. Even today it's not generally well understood. American Beauty might be the best effort to date, outside of actual documentaries. Annette Benning's freakout scene is a textbook personification of a narcissistic injury in slow motion.
32:18 "Why does she dress like a _grandma?_ I don't think even _grandmas_ dress like this. This looks like 1800s grandma. The f*ck. is she dressing like Misery?" 🤔 You know, it hasn't crossed my mind, but she might well _be._ The _Misery_ novels are based in the _19th. century,_ after all.
I believe the book has definite differences, including the ending. James Caan's most iconic role is definitely as Sonny Corleone in "The Godfather" and if you're his "number one fan" (just kidding), then I'd definitely be into seeing you check that one out! I mean, that movie is already a classic anyways, with a giant cast of incredible actors, there are ten thousand reasons to watch it, but if you're a James Caan fan, that's one for your list. (and yeah, Kathy Bates is great in this movie! It was her breakout role, and instantly won her the Oscar.
In this way, I find Annie Wilkes _completely_ unrelatable. See, I would dare to say that probably the author for whom I've been the _biggest_ fan is a man named Peter David. I probably first became acquainted with him, _ages_ ago, when I read the _Star Trek: The Next Generation_ novel _Doomsday World,_ which he coauthored with three other people. It was an awesome _book._ For a few years, I was an avid _TNG_ reader. In fact, I remember a time when I had two portable VHS cassette shelves _filled_ with _TNG_ novels, and the most _incredible_ realization crossed my mind. Each of these cases was _filled_ with novels... and I had read every single _one_ of them. Now you _know_ you're enjoying a novel when its ending sneaks _up_ on you, and with just the books here in front of me, that had happened a good 26 _times._ But that experience introduced me to Peter David. He's also written a few _DS9_ novels I've enjoyed. My research brought to my attention a _Babylon 5_ novel he had written that I tracked down and bought, but I _couldn't_ get into it, try though I did. 🤷♂ Anyhow, at some point, he decided to build his _own_ sandbox and launched a _Star Trek_ series that exists _only_ in the novels called _Star Trek: New Frontier._ Now _ST:NF_ is an absolutely _absorbent_ series of novels. From time to time, I check the booksellers in search of a new book in the series I haven't _read,_ yet. Disappointing that his productivity, there, has tapered off, the last few years. 🤷♂ But this curious trend emerged with the last few of his books. Main characters started just up and _leaving._ One character who had been created by the enhancement of a member of a _non-sentient_ species ended up _losing_ the enhancement and had to be _returned_ to them. One character, the first officer, first got her own command and then made _admiral._ One character I found _incredibly_ compelling just wound up _dead._ Executed. And yes, I _know_ he died, because they showed us his _remains._ Now do I _resent_ him for deciding this character needed to die? No. Not in the least. He didn't take this character away from me. The character was never _mine._ I understand that the character only ever existed in the world of _fiction._ He never _actually_ existed. So when Annie discovers that Paul has killed off Misery and goes berserk, I'm unable to relate.

But that experience introduced me to Peter David. He's also written a few _DS9_ novels I've enjoyed. My research brought to my attention a _Babylon 5_ novel he had written that I tracked down and bought, but I _couldn't_ get into it, try though I did. 🤷♂
Anyhow, at some point, he decided to build his _own_ sandbox and launched a _Star Trek_ series that exists _only_ in the novels called _Star Trek: New Frontier._
Now _ST:NF_ is an absolutely _absorbent_ series of novels. From time to time, I check the booksellers in search of a new book in the series I haven't _read,_ yet. Disappointing that his productivity, there, has tapered off, the last few years. 🤷♂
But this curious trend emerged with the last few of his books. Main characters started just up and _leaving._
One character who had been created by the enhancement of a member of a _non-sentient_ species ended up _losing_ the enhancement and had to be _returned_ to them.
One character, the first officer, first got her own command and then made _admiral._
One character I found _incredibly_ compelling just wound up _dead._ Executed. And yes, I _know_ he died, because they showed us his _remains._
Now do I _resent_ him for deciding this character needed to die? No. Not in the least. He didn't take this character away from me. The character was never _mine._ I understand that the character only ever existed in the world of _fiction._ He never _actually_ existed.
So when Annie discovers that Paul has killed off Misery and goes berserk, I'm unable to relate.
35:57 good news! his legs get much better 👍🏼
Just now trying 2 catch up a bit! Just started, but wanted 2 say since u mentioned the old ass typewriter, that the aesthetic feel of punching the keys just cannot be matched!!! Computers salt-peter the pleasure compared 2 an old Remington!!!😄 They may be loud, a pain 2 maintain, have 2 manually correct mistakes, & use a copier, but the actual long hrs being intimate w/ ur writing "partner" just cannot be matched by impersonal, dead-f**k HAL!!!😔SMFH! I HAD 2 watch this b4 others cause know u r a writer & wanted 2 c how u can relate! Don't remember now if u did The Shining &/or if i watched the reaction, but as a writer, when Jack goes off on Wendy when she interrupts him, I always get a kick outta how people r so disgusted at his behavior! He MAY have over-reacted a LITTLE bit, but if ur a writer u can sympathize!!! "Wendy, GET THE F**K OUT!!!"😅 See ya! 😎 ✌ ❤ 🚬
4:38 it's probably Annie, but could be a yeti
Now you know the scene that hurts me, but what hurts me even more.. is i have two broken ankles, not due to the hammer, but due to other medical causes.. and yeah i am still sitting her with to broken ankles that will never heal. it adds a whole new level of pain for me
I'm so sorry you're going through that :( I can't imagine the pain. I hope they are getting better now.
@@ShreeNation they will never get better, other issues as well, the bones are degenerating so they cant even heal just get weaker and weaker just moving them "wrong" in bed no doing anything can break them again
That is so awful! I'm so sorry to hear you're going through that :(
@@ShreeNation at least thre is n annie wilkes do bonus LOL
46:43 half of kpop stans know this much things and the problem is that its the the agencies and idols themselves that want to share this much to have the closest fandom ever. From time to time its really scary
I remember when was kid we were waiting to take a plane somewhere and had a couple hours delay so we went to the movies, I really wanted to see this but it was sold out. Had to go see home alone instead... I jus remember hearing to the theater next to me gasping and screaming at the this movie.
I remember James Caan was on The Godfather as Santino Corleone, the hot tempered son of the mafia boss Vito Corleone
Wow! Another "Las Vegas" fan 😀
😁
James Caan is known by the older generation as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather.
Witness a young James Caan in the John Wayne Western, "El Dorado".
Will do :)
“His legs look like someone took a baseball bat to them”…Well, nope. Actually they don’t look all that bad at this point. 😉
"She's going to be the next God."
No, she's going to be the next Paul Sheldon.
28:05 ha ha ha right 😆😆😬😬😳
All King villains are the same, but that same is usually crazy effective.
enjoyed the review very much
03:30 yeah, exactly
Oh and please stop asking for mercy killing...where I'm from its considered to be cowardly to commit suicide and to wish someone would kill to make it go away is not helpful to the situation and it could be looked at as encouraging to suicidal people 41:30 45:08
Hello! Check out James Caan's FIRST MOVIE AND IT IS AWESOME!! LADY IN A CAGE!!
Will do :)
You'll Love it He's Really young and Super Cute, Lady in a cage, It's Ahead of it's time.
Another great kidnapping movie is "Julia" with Tilda Swinton.
38:16 it says the same thing 5 times, lol. They could have be a little more precise and write an entire article or put a thing to cover the white part XD
You should do a reaction to the film "Deliverance", which is currently on HBOMax streaming. Your analysis is good and you would do it justice. It's pretty dark and intense, I'd be interested in your opinion of it.
Thank you, I will check it out soon :)
06:29 lol, but one day I've got to read at least one Sherlock Holmes. I want to see if i really can't make out the killer
A another Stephen King Classic. James Caan is also good as a Villain. Check it out the Movie Eraser. 😉 And his Son Scott Caan has worked with Jake Busey (Gary Busey's Son), Paul Walker, Jessica Alba, Nicolas Cage, Robert Duvall, Will Smith, Gene Hackman and so forth. I enjoyed your Reaction again. 😊
Thank you, now i have to check out Eraser! 😊

Dude, everyone who watches that ankle scene shits their pants.
You took it like a champ, though. You're stone cold 🤣
Hah thanks :D
RIP James Caan
Wow you have a great voice and I like your energy.
Thank you so much!
Blasphemy to God...that is the worst crime...because now your risk the wrath of God and he can punish you how ever he wishes and what's the worst punishment? Eternal damnation to answer your question 39:10
Still, a better love story than "Twilight".
It fun how you say "perp" like you are on an old cop show
😁
15:30 ahaha
40:00 i mean... old very ill people and babies are the same. They both don't know they are there. If one k*lls the not-anymore -there-with-the-mind ill elderly or the weeks-old babies, i sincerely do not see any difference in guilt
If you like James Caan try Thief, Elf, El Dorado and Cinderella Liberty.
Thank you, I will :)
Don't forget “The Godfather“. A very young James Caan.
11:38 Supernatural!! Wonderful and genius till when it was supposed to end, season 5 ~°•♡♡ Season 6 was okay, from the 7th on it was one of the most horrible things I've seen in my life :") I still always respect the De Gustibus No Disputandum est.... but ive stopped at the 10th season cause i couldn't anymore ahah

To you why
“Worst romance ever.”
Guess you never seen Twilight.
The thought of you sh*tting yourself is scarier than the movie.🤢
If you want a good James Caan movie you should watch Kiss Me Goodbye With Sally Fieldua-cam.com/video/xPiF36HxBfU/v-deo.html
Will do :)
