About this video: On January 19, 2024, the annual dinner excursion sponsored by the New England Railroad Club operated on an extended route and for the first time picked up members as far north as the Braintree, MA commuter rail station. With two MBTA locomotives sandwiching a consist sent up by the Cape Cod Central Railroad, the train featured lots of unique and historic equipment that is almost never seen running together on one train. The consist in question was led down to Cape Cod by (at the time) the most recently rebuilt MBTA GP40MC, this time with all new “GP40MC-3” classifications, locomotive 1138. An MBTA locomotive was required on both ends of the train to accommodate PTC requirements that the Cape Cod Central Railroad locomotive could not meet. Behind the lead locomotive were 4 CCCR coaches and CCCR owned FL9 locomotive in New Haven Railroad paint. Bringing up the tail end was a squeaky clean MBTA F40PH-3C 1062. All pieces of equipment in the consist were freshly cleaned prior to the operation of this special train. All clips in this video were shot at the Braintree commuter rail station showing the switching operations of the train before it departed, except for the last clip which shows the train underway to the Cape passing the Randolph/Holbrook commuter rail station on the Middleboro line.
