What a wonderful slice of a time from long ago. Looking at photos before Photoshop. A photographer's dream who knew exactly how she presented best. A stunning beauty, the likes of which, we will never see again.
These guys patience and tolerance for stars at that time was outstanding! Elizabeth and Richard really were fabulous actors and Worldwide Superstars and behaved like it at that time.
What a wonderful interview, I truly enjoyed Mr. Tony's insight about the private life of Elizabeth and Richard. The pictures by Mr. Haynsworth are beautiful as well. What a couple, there were something else and who do we have today that equals them?
Plenty! Plenty of 'so called ordinary people, who also went through horrendous times. Get a grip please, they were only actors, not gods!! Everyone goes through pain.
@@pennyburns4425 For real and she didn't have any empathy for anyone else's time or schedule. I guess with her and Burton being drunk and fighting had something to do with it.
If Mr. Tony has returned to Puerto Vallarta recently, he will see that the former Villa of the Burton's is now a magnificent boutique hotel. It's absolutely gorgeous and the renovation is beautiful. There are tributes everywhere to Elizabeth and Richard, even her heart shaped tub has been preserved!
How wonderful! I'll look for the next time I visit! Thank you so much for posting this wonderful story, for those of us that loved the Burton's, it was fascinating!
Unfortunately the Puerto Vallarta of that era is no more: Tourism has destroyed it. I would love to travel back in time to see, feel how it was then. It looks charming and yes romantic.
Wow! I’m just now seeing this interview with Mr Tony Briggle. It was captivating to hear him tell us about his adventure with this famous photographer, trying to shoot Elizabeth Taylor. What a nice tribute he gave about to his friend, Photographer John Haynsworth. Truly, they had a memorable experience in Mexico on that assignment!!
This is my second watching of this, it's so great! This shoot resulted in some of my all time favorite Taylor/Burton pix, plus the backstory is fabulous.
I loved this story. Ive never met Tony but I knew Mr. Stanley. That house in Vallarta is named Casa Kimberley. Richard bought it when they were there for him to film Night of the Iguana. She sold it to Toy Holstein in 1996 and Toy turned into a museum and bed and breakfast I met Toy my second time in Vallarta and returned too many times to count.I always stayed at Casa Kimberley. I learned a lot about Elizabeth and Richard while helping give tours. Ive seen many pictures of them both in the house but it was still nice to see these few pictures. Thanks Tony for the story and reminding me what a great house it was and how much I miss Vallarta. And yes Elizabeth was still very beautiful in 1969.
Welsh wizard Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were Hollywood Royalty..They had a stormy marriages but lots of passion and love..I'm from South Wales and live near Richard Burtons house where he was born.👍👍❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing this story @holthaynsworth7761 and Tony Briggle! This was great! I was a kid in their heyday and loved both of them through their lives and careers! This was wonderful and what a great early experience for your dad as a young photographer!
This was such a great story. I remember going to Puerto Vallarta & the taxi guy showed us where Elizabeth Taylor had lived. It had a little bridge that connected to Richard Burtons home. Thanks for sharing the beautiful photographs. Thx&see ya😁
Elizabeth Taylor was once called the "most beautiful woman in the world" for a very good reason. And to top it all off, she truly was very photogenic! I doubt she ever took a bad picture, even if she did scissor a few of them! Besides her occasional rowdy/raunchy side, probably brought out of her by Burton, she had a heart of gold and was always FOR the underdog!
It's now 2023. This was a great story that was very well told by Briggle. I was a kid with all this was happening but I do remember it. I'd love to hear some of the other stories that they have. 🎬
Tony Briggle is a master story teller. I remember the gossip about Elizabeth Taylor talking like a sailor. A friend worked closely with her in AIDS campaigns and deeply admired her. She was one of a kind.💜
wonderful indeed...it is always amazing to process the fact the Liz was often intoxicated during her years with Burton..how did she look like SUCH A DREAM??!!! Most beatiful woman who ever lived...great, amazing photo shoot.....
So well done! John has a beautiful voice and a most impressive way of speaking. The video doesn’t speak well of the lack of respect and consideration of famous stars like the Burtons who were totally wrapped up in themselves!
This was definitely worth watching. What a great story of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. I especially loved the part during the photo shoot when they were on top of that huge rock cursing at eachother. Looking at those pictures I would have never believed that's what they were saying to one another. LMFAO 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 Nothing like an old Hollywood story.❤
I had the opportunity to meet w Ms. Taylor twice in the late '80's. The term 'star quality' is real. She mesmerized every person who was present at those meetings.
I had no intention of watching this. I’m glad I did, such a great video. I think the British woman make for some of the most beautiful actresses in the world. I have always loved Richard in “When Eagles Dare”
It must a been a real hoot working with those two. I think if the papsmearrotzi would have left Richard and Elizabeth in peace and if they could have controlled all that drinkin' they would have made it. I think they really loved one another.
From what I've learned about Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, she fell in love with him during the filming of "Cleopatra" and "The Sandpiper," in which they both costarred, but her intense love was not reciprocated. Although she was clearly a gorgeous, sexy woman, Richard Burton was quoted as "dishing" about his sexual escapades with her to others, saying, "I fucked Elizabeth in the back of a car last night," etc. on the set of "Cleopatra" and otherwise disrespecting her by criticizing her lust for food, claiming she had a weight problem and an issue with overeating. In actuality, it was Richard Burton who had insecurities based on his impoverished upbringing in comparison to Elizabeth's, and he obviously felt competitive and even jealous of her acting accomplishments, popularity and stardom. In my view, she gave away her love to Richard Burton, a man incapable of love, and threw away her self-esteem in a string of husbands, never really finding a real love in her life. She believed the tabloids, which called her fat, alcoholic, and drug addicted, believed all the misogynistic nonsense the useless, jealous, ugly press with faces and bodies for journalism spit out about her. What a pity.
I agree with most of your post. However, I believe she was in love and happy with her husband who died in a plane crash Mike Todd, she took in very hard. Just from what I read about that time, friends close to her stated they were made for each as far as personalities were concerned. Richard Burton’s this is just my opinion, was a type I would have ran from. Not into the “moody, critical, heavy drinker artist “ type. Like you stated he could be very cruel, and I don’t buy it was because of his hard, humble beginnings, it was self pity he seemed was comfortable with. How long you going to hang on to the pass? Why do others have to be emotionally abused because of it?
I haven't laughed this hard in a long, long time. Absolutely great story. Funny enough, I remember Anne of a Thousand Days very well. Thought it was a great movie, especially Burton's Henry Vlll. So spot on. Can't believe he was nominated 7 times without winning. They were both so very talented.
Wonderful story telling, by such a nice gentleman. There's only one thing wrong with this interview, some more of John Haysworth's photographs telling the story of the Photographer himself.
