It is 20 years and 4 months since my friend, Scott, passed away with AIDS...I will never forget his talking of Elizabeth Taylor's taking this very public stand when no one else would...he had tears in his eyes describing her as an ANGEL sent to earth.... what an exquisite human being....what a life well-spent!!
I wrote to her to thank her for all she had done, and because of her my life was easier and longer. I wanted her to know that I knew she had affected the lives of millions of people, simply because she cared enough. I was driving to the post office to mail the letter when I heard on the radio that she had died. So, I said it out loud, hoping somehow she would hear me or at least know... Not many people who have lived on Earth have changed hearts and minds the way she did, and not many have been able to reach so many and save so many. Exquisite" is an excellent word for her. When you are in the service of your fellow-man, you are in the service of God. And, if that is true, I worry about all those people who think poor people are lazy, those who say they don't want to pay for free school lunches for kids from poor families, and those who think if you can't afford health insurance than you don't deserve it, and who don't believe the elderly and disabled deserve Social Security... If they aren't serving their fellow man, then who are they serving? I was and am in awe of Elizabeth Taylor and also Princess Diana, who stole a car from the Royal Household (after being told she couldn't have a car and she could not leave) and drove herself to London to be with a man dying from AIDS because she promised no matter where she was she would get there when the time came - Diana also changed hearts and minds for the better.
Watch the video of Diana arriving @ Toronto AIDS hospice Casey House, a visibly ill resident awaits her arrival in his pajamas & wheelchair, when she sees him she parks it on the radiator in front of him so they can meet & greet. She was reportedly furious when another visit elsewhere was said to have been staged with non-patients. Neither woman allowed their rage @ injustice to prevent them from being of public service to strangers in need,
When the government and everybody turn their back on the AIDS/HIV epidemic, Elizabeth Taylor with her own money was the help and the hope for those with this illness. A well deserve award, may God have you in a special place in heaven Ms. Taylor
ELIZABETH TAYLOR was my hero. Not only a tremendously gifted actress who twice won the Oscar for Best Actress in the 60s but most importantly, for her generosity, compassion, courage and tenacity she displayed from the very beginning of the AIDS pandemic until the very end of her life. She put her own money (millions of dollars) where her mouth was, both talking the talk AND walking the walk with a style and beauty and grace uniquely her own. The gay community owes her a tremendous debt of gratitude and we remember her with LOVE. RIP Dear Heart. THANK YOU.
THIS is the person in our lifetime that brought AIDS to the worlds attention. Her devotion to those who were turned away and looked passed by Ronald Reagan and his ilk. She was an Angel amongst many devils. She battled for those who couldn't help themselves. Until the end, God used her for all humanity to bring compassion to those less fortunate. God Bless you forever Elizabeth , and Thank You.
"..I call upon you to draw from the depths of your being, to prove that we are a human race.." Those last few sentences from her speech should be put on a plaque somewhere in her honor. Thank you Oscars channel for putting this up in remembrance!
By honoring Audrey Hepburn in her speech shows just how generous and confident Elizabeth Taylor is. Only a person who is truly beautiful inside and out will take the time to honor others even if she is the one being honored. Such a classy lady.
i love how she mentioned Audrey, Elizabeth Taylor was definitely such an amazing woman for standing up for AIDs victims when people treated them like lepers in the ancient times
Angela Lansbury is one of the best and most eloquent actresses ever...She is still so gorgeous and her beauty is timeless. It seems time hasn't passed for her...Loved her in :"Murder she wrote."
Our Elizabeth so deserved this Oscar. I believe this was one of the greatest speeches given by anybody anywhere. Spoken with the PASSION Elizabeth had to speak out for those who had no voice and use her fame to make a difference. There are so many alive today because of this sweet Angel Elizabeth we love you. We miss her every day for her beauty, passion and spirit. But we will never forget her.
Liz may have had a true soul, but t'is hard to tell; save the grace that she was one of the first to come out to support help for aids. It was so disdained, disparaged at the time. Really, no matter the infliction, human pain must be recognised by the heart. So I am thumbs up, sugar love.
Both Elizabeth Taylor and Julie Andrew were declared to be Dame Commanders of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II on May 16, 2000. Both are also among the female legends to the LGBTQ community along with Audrey and others.
Paul Delgadillo I certainly think titles and belief in people as unequals sets up for all kinds of pathological lying and stealing by those who cast others as pawns. . See monarchy and Catholic Church.
What a magnificent acceptance speech! ...and they better applaud her as Elizabeth Taylor is surely the greatest ambassador Hollywood has ever had. Perhaps someday they will live to deserve her...
The entry of Elizabeth Taylor on stage is something exciting! Just look she to see how much light is being emitted! Her words capture the audience! A great woman, a great actress, a legend! Thanks for share!
At last! The legendary Angela Lansbury will finally receive a long overdue Honorary Oscar of her own! Brava to Ms. Lansbury and well done, the Academy!
Hersholt award speech is Elizabeth! Mother Courage in Sable and jewels. Her heart was overflowing with love for all! Fortunate to. Actually have been in Contact with her by mail for last years of her life. SO GRACIOUS!! Never another Elizabeth Taylor ! The world is a better place because of Her!!! If she could have been President WOW! RIP dearest Dame Elizabeth.
Wow I’m just so taken back in a really wonderful way of Elizabeth’s speech! This is a really beautiful and very powerful message to everyone and may so many be witnesses to her words of truth and that she truly was giving of herself to others:) The way it should always be:) People that become “celebrities” should see this speech and realize that getting into movies or becoming a well known model and figure, isn’t about all the fame and money, but it’s about having a voice to help others. Not to be self seeking and self absorbed. I truly admire Elizabeth with all that I am and she is a very special person all around:) Thank you to her and those that give of themselves to help others in need and for those that are honest, loving, good people in this world:) ♥️Zach
Breathtakingly beautiful lady. Elizabeth Taylor gave so much money to charity. But more than that, she showed care and compassion. Raised awareness about Aids, raised money and made it not a taboo subject. She worked tirelessly to raise money and awareness This lady was selfless and giving. She was a true beauty inside and out. Always thinking of others. We still mourn her passing, heaven has a beautiful angel.
"Dearest gentle Audrey. . . ." So succinct, yet effective in describing her. If alive, Audrey would be there humbly applauding Elizabeth more than anyone else.
From one legend to another. Seeing Angela Lansbury presenting the award to Elizabeth Taylor only makes me wanting more to see Angela herself receiving Honorary Oscar.
I haven't watched the Oscars since the year of Elizabeth's death. Dedicating a paltry 5 seconds to her during the In Memoriam portion was a disgace. Elizabeth Taylor WAS the Academy Awards show for the last 40 years.
Thank you our HERO, ELIZABETH TAYLOR! For all your dedication and support for aides and people with aides. You are an angelic humanitarian to the people.
Happy Mother's Day in HEAVEN Dame Elizabeth ❤. Mother Courage in jewels and Sable and a loving mother to her own children and to so many! 💎 Hoping you can see your inspiring legacy living on from up THERE. ☁️ 🌤 purple 💜 💜 💎 💜 👑 💜 🌞

Elizabeth Taylor’s humanitarian role on hiv/AIDS is remarkable. I believe her contributions to the cause paved way for the advancement in medicine for treating this illness. She gave awareness to the disease and lessens the stigma associated with it. Now, people with this condition can live a longer and healthy life. Thank you Elizabeth 👍
A pillar of strength, courage, determination, grace, beauty, talent and love. The world is one compassionate figure short since Elizabeth Taylor's death.
Elizabeth was gorgeous inside and out. I've admired her since I was a child. Her work with AIDS funding for patients is remarkable, especially when no one else in Hollywood was doing it. She was a fighter for those who were cast aside. Elizabeth, you will always be missed and I hope you know how much you were loved and appreciated. You set a standard of service and caring that we should all have. God bless you and rest in peace, dear Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Taylor was the greatest movie star ever. Period. Forever feisty and authentic as she dazzled in many films and later genuinely cared about the issue of Aids. She a walked the talk and she bravely put herself out front into the lions den before and after Aids became ripe with controversy. Madonna too embraced the issue in the early 80’s when she had a voice. Elizabeth Taylor will always be remembered. Deservedly so.

So sweet of Liz to have mentionned Audrey :(
Liz and Audrey were TRUE ARTISTS and compassionate women.May they rest in peace.
"Dearest, gentle Audrey. And while she is, I know, in Heaven, forever guarding her beloved children."
I always cry when I hear that.
I didn't expect that. She made me weep. Audrey greeted her when it was Liz's time.
I cried too... What a beautiful way of describing the hereafter...
Can you explain me more? Which Audrey she was talking about?
