Upland Hunting - HRC/UKC Upland Hunt Test - Section, AL - February 2024

Hunting Retriever Club (HRC)/United Kennel Club (UKC) Upland Hunt Test in Section, Alabama on Feb 3, 2024. Had a great time shooting and watching flushing dogs today. 60 dogs came to play. These are flushing dogs not pointing dogs. Labrador Retrievers , Water Spaniels, Boykin Spaniels, Golden Retrievers and Nova Scotia Tolling Retrievers. The test begins with a quartering test and proceeds on to two planted flush tests.
“The Upland Game Test shall consist of a simulated walk-up hunt, a quartering test, and an optional tracking test. The Upland hunting dog must be steady to wing and shot. Honoring of another dog is required. During this test the dog will be required to locate and retrieve game, as the Judges direct”
Whether the bird is killed by the gunners and retrieved, or the gunners miss the bird and it flies away, the dog must still demonstrate the ability to forget that bird and immediately continue hunting the field. Attempts are made to down the bird but not required for the flush. When the dog flushes, the handler fires a 'popper' and the hunter on the right or the left fires a second shot down range. If the bird is in a safe zone, the hunter can take the bird and the dog can make a retrieve.

Hello Coyote! Yes it was great to see the dogs do what they are bred for an enjoy. Flushing dogs not pointing dogs in this video. Great fun to watch them go through the paces and perform the hunt tests. Happy Hunting!
