That movie made such a huge impact on my life... I feel sad everytime I think about the brave soldiers that lost their lives in combat fighting for peace, so we can live our every day life.

Eva my mum was jewish Berliner who survived that period; she still had friends in the reunited Berlin and she died a year later from brain cancer but the joy of that transatlantic conversation will live in my mind forever.

I recently found out about the back story behind this song and now I deem it as even more badass. And to do it on the anniversary of the fall of the wall makes it even more incredible.
Gabriel is a legend. What a singer. What a musician - and also a dead cert to get the part of Uncle Fester when they remake The Addams Family.

This song means everything to the 11 of us who we know are still around today. Thank you David for writing and Peter for giving this version. I was in a documentary in 2011 Seconds to a New War.

My mother was a 3rd generation Berliner who was the only one of her family to escape the Holocaust as a jew. She loved that city. They had to hire people from other parts of Germany during the cold war because people escaped too easily. Peter Gabriel is one of my heroes.

But no, my personal favorite Bowie cover is Chris Hadfield's Space Oddity IN SPACE.
I mean, it's not particularly great (or good, even) from a purely musical standpoint, but daaaamn if that video doesn't give me all the feels.

Since David couldn't / wouldn't (?) be there, Peter was the next best thing.
This song reminds me of the smell of cordite and the powder smell of smoke grenade in the midst of the battle when the adrenaline subsides and you get a moment to think what the fuck am I doing here , then you say fuck it and return fire and then the adrenalin kicks right back in

Peter Gabriel is a great singer and this is really nice for a while ... but then it gets boring. The song has been pretty much stripped of it's original power and drive.

Err...right...that's what these comment sections are for. Opinions. My opinion was in response to the opinion of steveshadforth. But, in my opinion, if you listen to especially the part of the song that starts at 2:40, if you really think that there's "zero emotion" here, you're either deaf, or completely clueless when it comes to what "emotion" really means. But hey...that's just my opinion.
MrDunedon I'm a huge fan of both artists, but I find this orchestration blah just overindulgent nonsense IMHO

Well, that's your opinion, and you're certainly entitled to it -- in my opinion, artists almost have to *earn* the right to do something like this. I think Gabriel certainly has earned it. As a matter of fact, Gabriel did an entire tour (or his own music) in this same fashion, not too long ago, and it was surprisingly effective.
