For 14 years we had a rental photo studio in NYC (I'm a photographer). A few of the other studios in the building would often hold castings. Those days were loved by my young, guy assistants since coming up in the elevator they'd be surrounded by all these cute young girls. Before becoming a photographer I did sometimes do production for advertising and catalog and it included casting. What always amazed me was how often a "first hold" meant nothing to the agencies. If a better paying job came up for the girls suddenly they would come down with a very convenient cold....

The first step is always online submission, you can share your modeling portfolio via email, please find all detail on my instagram @miterlilucia . In person castings are usually by request only.
Usually shorter female models are around 5'9 but most brands cast models for their shows who are between 5'10 or 5'11 . So yeah in most cases 5'6 is too short for runway.

Yeah unfortunately that can happen in some cases. Always good to plan backup options if there are any issues
