- The world's richest man, Elon Musk, laid-off nearly 4,000 Twitter employees through email. At Twitter's New York office, the building was closed for the day and all employee badges were voided, including workers who are still employed by the company. Many of the laid-off workers posted images of their locked company laptops. However, Twitter is not alone. Mass layoffs are happening across the tech world including at Amazon, Google and Facebook.
I'm baffled that Twitter hired that many employees to begin with.

Well most of the people worked there for 4 hours only and some dont do anything at all, so I doubt they will be struggling when let go, which is why they were let go to begin with, it’s a failing business they can’t be over staff when they can’t afford it.

You may be right about that. The Marriott in Times Square recently did that, anyone wanting to come back after the temporary closing had to interview to be considered for the positions they previously had....not all of them were re-hired.

My oh my. 10 months later - Twitter - now X - has lost 32% of it's overall value - and Elon Musk and his investors have lost nearly 45 billion personally - with a B - on his Twitter takeover. He lost enough money to not only pay all those employees he fired a million times over - but can you imagine what he could have done with 45 billion instead of investing it into a bad version of Facebook?

I like the fact that they pointed out that it isn't just happening at Twitter. I feel bad for anyone losing their job, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum, but anyone with even a shred of common sense would have known this was going to happen. At the end of the day, it was their own woke ideology which led to this. I saw a video of what it was like to "work" there. Even without Elon buying the company, anyone with common sense should have known that it couldn't last forever. As far as being laid off by email, you aren't going to call 3700 people to your office 1 by 1 to give them the news. Also, they left out the fact that Elon gave them all 3 months severance. That is 50% more than legally required.

Very sad that PP Burnell lost his job at Twitter. He was a recovering alcoholic and gambling addict trying to rebuild his life after filing for bankruptcy several years ago. Fellow employees will fondly remember Burnell for bringing positive vibes to the office, especially with his various wacky outfits. Saw a couple of youtube videos of a tiktok where a twitter employee filmed herself enjoying the amenities. It look like she just attended a meeting for a few minutes and spent the rest of her day relaxing in the company building by drinking matcha latte, checking out the meditation room, playing foosball, sitting out on the rooftop deck, eating gourmet meal, drinking espresso, catching up with friends and topping off the day with red wine. This was all provided by twitter for free. So... I'm guessing that employee was one who could be safely let go. She wasn't working.
