Good tips. I bought a home recently with a salt pool and have been trying to understand it and get it right over the last months. My chlorine level is always 0. I been putting 1-2lbs of shock in per week cause I thought you still needed to do that with a swg. I thought my intellchlor was working as it should until I watched this video. Now I'm positive it isn't working. All the lights are green, I cleaned it with muriatic acid a couple weeks ago. It runs 6hrs a night at the highest output.... I'm gonna look into it more now and figure out why it's not generating chlorine... Thanks for the video.
Not dragging cases of liquid from the store 4 times a season, not storing 60 gallons (15 cases) all the time and never getting chlorine burns on my legs from splash back are benefits to me
Wish I had more salt pools makes things a lot more easy, pool looks cleaner and healthy, also we can keep the cya at the levels tht we want, unlike chlorine tablets, also adding PoolRx makes it use less chlorine which i can lower the % generated
I was considering a generator earlier with the shortages but i was able to grab plenty of trichlor without issues so i’m re-evaluating it. i’m in a northern clime so i wonder if cya can be taken care of with the water change that occurs with winterizing. calhypo looks good but it’s so expensive compared to trichlor however we have low calcium so maybe it’s a good idea. i need to pro con the options soon.
I suggest maybe draining 1/4th or 1/2 of the water and refilling at the start of next season so you start with a lower CYA. Basically if your CYA is at 150 ppm, draining half will get it down to 70 ppm. Cal Hypo is a good alternative for sure.
@@SPL Thanks for the info. I replaced my liner this year so started with 0cya but i test it daily and so far so good. that is once i calibrated my variable speed pump. before this year i think i was running it too high and dissolving too much trichlor.

Glad I could be of help to you. 👍
My AutoPilot is a new install. still trying to optimize. Hope it is a successful experiment
It takes some tinkering. You will get it.
How effective are those CYA removers?
They are very touchy. Meainign you need to have zero chlorine in the pool and the correct water temperature for them to work.

100% agree.
How often do you have to drag in cases of HCl? Does having borates make it tolerable?
