Understanding the science behind fat loss and muscle building has been a game-changer for me. Sticking to steak and eggs for simplicity has kept me on track, but adding some supplements took things to the next level. I found some powerful recommendations in a book called Secret Supplements that turn you into a Superhuman. Creatine, especially, has helped me push harder in the gym and see better muscle growth.
As a licensed psychologist, I specialized in pain psychology. There is nothing "woo-woo" about the connection between psychological stress and physical pain. Stress is not the ONLY factor in pain of course. But it is a major factor in chronic conditions, for sure. I'm glad you are giving this issue the attention it deserves!
I’m 65 and have been lifting on and off for 35 years. The last 6 years heavy. I can deep squat, do pull ups, etc my 92 year old dad lifts and does push ups and air squats and walks. He lives independently and went to Paris this year. Drove from south texas to Idaho, he goes out to card games or casino every night. His friends his age use walkers, take insulin and are obese.
Rena thank you so much for having Layne on your podcast. I follow both of you but I have followed Layne since his first You-Tube vid. I love his passion and knowledge. Being a powerlifter myself as well as a MS in Nutrition I really appreciate content like this.
I have anxiety and depression and IBS stopped going to the gym when covid hit, and i was soooo bad. Everything got a million times worse. It's crazy how all that is connected ,but it makes so much sense. I started working out again around 6 months ago and feel so much better . Physically and mentally. Bar, a few health conditions that are diagnosed playing on my mind now and again when I'm in the gym, it never even enters my mind. I want to be better and stronger for my partner and kids, and i am stronger than these mental issues. I will win over my darkest self. Sorry a little over sharing, but I clearly needed to vent 😅
I had a disc removed at 17 years old. (42 years ago) I've always been active and I'm usually pain-free. I started taking fitness seriously at 40 years old. Dead lifts, squats and chest press are the cornerstone of my routine and I go as heavy as possible. You are right about the pain
The comment about pain is real. I am 54 I bench 425, squat 450 and dead lift 480. It hurts but I could not live with out working out. I really have to watch what I eat. If I stay on track and away from sugar and bad carbs I am fine. A month of lazy eating I will put on 10lbs. That part sucks!
Very good objective critically thought out researched experienced. I can tell right off the bat Dr. Layne is for real and cares. Answering the whys, the nuanced considerations and anomalies, as well as debunking the deceit and misleading info, cutting through bs fluff is what's relevant.
At 71 been doing resistance exercise 6 days at week 30 minutes a day. On TRT pellets for 4 years. Told I look 10 years younger. Watching Dr. Rena vids since she started; she’s so helpful for us both. This information so good!
Sooooo...I NEVER lost weight on a Mediterranean diet; in fact, I gained weight. I did NOT cheat. I recorded and photographed my food. I was over 350 pounds. I FINALLY gave up on my doctors' prescribed diet, went to a high protein ketogenic diet, got thyroid therapy, and lost 200+ pounds. In the National Weight Loss Registry the success diets are all over the map. "I went carnivore and lost 120 pounds" is right next to "I went vegan and it saved my life." OR you go to an endocrinologist with hair loss, weak peeling nails, extreme fatigue, an inability to lose weight and a body temperature of 94 degrees, but high-normal TSH, and the dim bugger refuses to do a full thyroid panel. I went untreated, and then under-treated for hypo-thyroidism for decades. SOMETIMES it's the doctors and R.Ds who are wrong, NOT the patient!
Eating less junk food, fast food, candy, chips, and other things. Getting enough sleep and exercising correctly every day. Personally, I've found that intense low weight for 2 weeks, then high weight low reps for 2 weeks works best for me.
@PSA78 Getting sleep and reducing stress is great in theory. However, some people are stuck against their will in stressful situations (caretaker of child or relative, frustrating job, difficult relationships, etc) that are stressful. Plus, they can lose sleep due to the stress so it is a "catch 22".

Ive lost 33kg this year. And its been so upsetting. To this day ill argue to the end of the world that cal in vs cal out is not the end all be all. At 90kg and 5ft 10, doing on average 16k steps a day in a 9 hour a day physical job + 1.5 hour gym sesh 5 days a week eat what i weigh and weigh twice 1900 cal a day im loosing 0kg. And that has been for just over a month now. I hit this wall so many times this year and it sucks knowing i couldve lost 40kg or more. Yet if i try to eat any more than what i am i gain weight instantly. And i have not figured out an effective method to eat much less than this now besides just rejecting food and having 2 protein shakes and a yoghurt every day till im sick haha
I did not lose any body weight staying at 80Kilos. I lost 10 inches on my waist line. All my pants falls off me..... I eat smaller meals and dont count calories. I excercise 6 times a week, Just like God I take Sunday off from my hard work. My believe in ying and yang......balance!!!!!!!! no extreme diet!!!!!!
Literally less than 10 minutes and relating so hard. The minute someone says oatmeal or Diet Coke is going to kill you or ruin your gut microbiome… I’m done. I love oatmeal and it is good for you. Certain things trigger certain people for different reasons. It doesn’t mean it applies to the general population. Also, many aren’t privileged enough to do an elimination diet and still get enough nutrients and calories.
Weight loss is all in your diet, what you eat!! Eat right for you and you will lose weight!! Weight loss is 90% to 95% diet and exercise does the rest!!
I saw some people who had fat come off. They were swimming in an aqua fit class. So you can't lose any fat, that's just aqua fit girls who think starbucks is a small batch coffee house. Tear the class up.
The 🔑 is. Fruits and vegetables only.. and meat if you choose. Don’t eat out and don’t eat any processed box junk. And get moving. Lift and keep endurance up.
I don’t understand how a professional doesn’t know how to pronounce the medication he greatly endorses. That immediately undermines my trust in his recommendations😮
There's honest to God zero scientific evidence of it being harmful to you. Could it still be? I suppose, but after decades of rigorous research, you'd think we would have found something by now. It's not a new product. I'm relatively confident it's a safe zero calorie treat. It's too bad people miss out on taking advantage of it due to irrational and unfounded fear.
Blah blah blah, totally wrong - sodium is a killer especially for those 50+.... Little great info here... BCAA's work with a valid nutritional plan. Disappointing.

The growth this man has had I er the past 5 years - that I’ve noticed - is awesome ❤❤❤
Too bad he’s an ass on Twitter. I was shocked and disappointed the way he talks to people.

I have always heard it said don’t let your feelings overrule your thinking. That is the easiest way to wind up in a ditch.
Finally someone really good on. 🙌
30:34 he’s absolutely correct 👍🏼
Thank you for speaking up about how harmful nutrition videos can be to the eating disorder population . It’s serious and it’s killing people
I completely agree.
thanks dr rena malik
I can totally relate to "living life backward."
I definitely feel what he’s saying. It’s easy for me to be in the gym. Every time I do a deadlift it’s relaxing for me. I’m such a gym nerd.

Interesting.thank you
I still think the soda problem will always come down to treating it as a regular source of liquid and not an occasional treat.
Calorie free soda is a good weight loss tool

Sleep and stress reduction is one of the key elements for reducing craving for highly palatable and low satiating food ("junk food").

46:51 till 47:39 Aha!! So that's why I never gain any muscle no matter how hard I try!
We're boycotting Starbucks, not investing.
You could just.... put iodized salt on your brocolli.
Yeah when I weigh everything I am eating like 3000-4000 calories/day lol.
Can you talk about delayed ejaculation😢
I'll do it if you stop yelling at me, maaaan!

17 minutes in, I still haven't heard anything about fat loss. I'm moving on.
Suggestion - use the chapter markings to skip ahead to the part you're interested in. Cheers.
Fat loss occurs when you're in a calorie deficit. You're welcome and happy new year.
Carnivore changed everything. I feel better in every way.
I don’t understand how a professional doesn’t know how to pronounce the medication he greatly endorses. That immediately undermines my trust in his recommendations😮
Which medication?
2min in and I have yet to hear "HUMAN. RANDOMIZED. CONTROL. TRIALS". Feels weird man.
And 2 minutes and 20 seconds later, there it is.
Thank god
Ya you lost me with the diet soda 😳

It's a zero calorie replacement for sugar drinks that satisfies the sweet craving.
It's a really helpful weight loss tool 🤷
Hahah … Layne Norton… there was a time when he used to argue with rando weight lifters on yt
Nobody cares work harder ❤
I learnt nothing from this.. Dr Layne does not know how to depart the knowledge he has
