Enjoyed the video, thank you. I have a 991.2 C2S with PDK which is simply an exceptional gearbox. I drive that car in ‘manual’ mode wherever I can but for a daily driver or urban crawling it is so nice to be lazy and the PDK is almost telepathically changing gear where I would anyway, particularly when you push the car harder. Now to clear my name I’m lucky enough to own a beautiful 964 C2S manual and I have to say when I get out of that after a spirited drive I have a smile on my face that the 991 simply can’t deliver. So as a UK resident I fit into the European 5% but if I only have one choice I’d have a manual without hesitation as good as the PDK is. Good on you Americans for your 20% score - that’s an impressive stat. Anyway, enjoying your work. Well presented, factual, funny and professional.

You had amazing private access to do your filming, making it very special for the viewers. Additionally, your technical discussion of the car’s improvements is just great, very interesting and informative. You should have 10X your current subscribers; so many car guys are just missing out. To your question, dealing with SoCal traffic daily, I’d get the auto trans.

I live in New Jersey and I just ordered a 2022 911 Carrera S with a manual transmission in Shark Blue. I purchased my first Porsche 911 base Carrera 12 months ago in Gentian blue. At the time I felt I was lucky enough to own a 911 in the first place and felt getting a manual was out of reach since I had to upgrade to an S which was about $20K more. Turns out I was very unhappy driving a boring automatic and wished I had a manual. As luck should have it I was fortunate enough to trade in my base 911 for only $3K less than what I paid for it after owning it for 12 months and driving 6000 miles. I can't tell you how excited I am to be getting a manual and it being an S is a huge bonus. Truthfully, if the base 911 was manual I would not have even considered a Carrera S since the base 911 is fast enough. To me, a sports car is not a sports car unless it has a manual transmission.

From the US and have been coveting and luckily owning manual transmission Porsche’s for 35 years but both Porsche’s sitting in our garage today are PDK’s and we love them. As much as it pains me to admit, I don’t find the PDK to be any less engaging. Is it different? Absolutely. Is one better that the other? That’s very subjective. However, I’ve not totally abandoned the manual, I’m eyeing a couple of options in a late 70’s, early 80’s 3.2 Carrera that will satisfy my inner manual loving tendencies but any new Porsche in my future will be a PDK, it’s just that good!

Im actually planning to order this So you know its a manual. But to answer your question about the manual/EV's. OMG LOVE IT. I went to a car show and saw a guy there in a converted Probe GT to an EV keeping the 5MT. I asked how he did it, he said it wasnt hard but works just like a normal 5MT. Getting the same effect on the EV drive. He said it was great fun. Now ive never ridden it personally but it sounds perfect. Just do that. Plus you would have the option to just go into drive. WHICH is a transmission ive been screaming for years. 3 pedals on the floor stick on the consol for full manual driving plus the option to just stick it into drive. THAT is the holly grail and the only way to keep that alive.

Manual, California. Predictable, I suppose. If there was electrification involved I would wish the electric motor had 7 forward gears as well, instead of the single-gear setup most of them seem to run. It would also be cool if like in the McLaren P1 the electric motor sent torque to the wheels during your gearshifts.

    • @ConstantineJoseph
      @ConstantineJoseph 4 роки тому

If you are still looking at the used ones, I can tell you the price hardly has dropped. The value retention is high for Porsche 911s as you're not the only one in the world wanting to buy second hand.
Secondly, most owners will never sell till the warranty runs out and that's where you take up the liability of replacing old and worn parts.
For German cars, it's better to buy them first hand and off load them in the short term 2-4 years.

Question about electrification....are they going to a performance hybrid model or are they looking to do a total EV car? Because if it's an EV car, then I'm wondering how could it still be a 911 since it's unlikely the car would be a true rear engined vehicle, which is kinda the point (otherwise everyone would just get a Boxster/Cayman. As for manual vs. auto, I always go auto since my legs are too long to deal with a third pedal for more than five minutes.

While I get how much more relaxed the driving experience is with an auto, if you truly love driving forget the auto. Carving canyon s at pace and shifting gears with those paddle shifters! It changes gears so fast, so responsive and does not miss the beat ever! I feel a manual transmission on this car will cripple its performance. Would a manual be more engaging? I don’t think so. My brain is focused on driving the s&$#t out of it rather than the heal and toe. With that said.... I love that Porsche still gives us the option for a manual, eventually I hope to be able to own both flavors!

I like manuals and its a shame they’re dying out, but Porsche has the best dual clutch automatic on the market so not getting it is a loss.
It’s great the way you point out technical details no one else does. Keep it up.
Being a 991.2 C4S owner, this new version will be appealing after as you call it ‘electrification.’
My guess is AWD will be standard and the front will have electric motors. Smaller battery pack along with flat turbo will be in the back. It will maintain the 911 rear engine characteristics, but be better in every way. Manual transmission will still be possible in such a configuration, but there will me more fakery to integrate with electric power.

Yeah this is out of my price range, or at least more than I want to pay for a car, but if I did it would be manual for sure. Everytime this comes up people chime in with "everyone says they'll buy a manual but no one does, the enthusiasts want to pick them up second hand, etc etc". You want to know who still buys manual transmission cars new? This guy. In 30 years of buying new cars (and a few more buying used before that), I've bought exactly 1 auto car, a DSG A3. I've bought convertibles, sedans, a wagon, 4 cylinder, V6, I6, rotaries, FWD, RWD, AWD, Japanese, German, etc all in manual, and all while living and commuting 40-85km daily in Toronto traffic. This year I'm hoping to trade the A3 on a GTI or Golf R, and buy the new MX-5 as a keeper, and damn straight they will be manual. I drove the RS3 and it just left me cold driving on public roads - would only be entertaining on a track. I was glad to hop back into my 13 year old A4 Avant even with the barely functional a/c where I could actually drive again and leave the game boy dash to the 20 year olds.

Great videos, love the deep-car insight only Moto-Man gives us. What is your actual profession? How do you have all this money to galavant around puttering in and out of a new car every couple weeks, owning vintage war planes, and yammering away getting middle of the road at best viewer numbers? Are you a trust fund baby? Did you make it big in finance before you made the cliché move of leaving the daily grind behind to follow your passion?

He has good friends and a big sense of networking, so he is hanging out with his friends flying these planes as member and made a deal to do his show there. Not everything in life is about money, its his passion and profession. Thats just what I took away from his q&a´s, might be not totally precise in alle places.

Excellent a million times :) Best review...again. Re the car and a comment I have left already somewhere else: too much electronics nowadays...too much interference... like in F1 the driver does less and less and the engineers do more and more. It is not a sports car anymore - it is a technology feast full of playstation gimmicks - the sort of craft I don't ask for. Faster, Porkier, Too Sophisticated, Too Much Luxury. A Cayman 981 GT4 will be certainly slower but much more enjoyable for hardcore drivers. Buy one whilst you can.

Europe is highly congested. Lots of stop and go and less room to enjoy winding out a car compared to North America. That's why the take-rate for manuals in Europe is only 5%.

There is way too much shaming for those who choose anything other than a manual transmission. I find it counterproductive. People choose the car they want and how it is equipped using a lot of different criteria so when words are used that assume the "proper" transmission in the manual it really turns me off. I have driven manual transmission cars for 30 years (live in the USA) but my preference for the 911 and for my BMW M2 is the PDK/DCT. The fact that the USA is the main customer for manual transmissions likely says more about the influence of journalists who constantly talk up manual transmissions and shame anyone who would dare choose anything else. I have had total strangers come up to me at Cars and Coffee and tell me I selected the wrong transmission in the car I pay for. Face it we are given two excellent choices both the manual and PDK are great and offer great experiences. If I were choosing a car that I would just enjoy a few days a month and wouldn't get stuck in traffic during a commute a manual would likely be my choice but that isn't reality for me.
On the topic of the manual combined with electrification the only car I can recall doing this was the Honda CRZ which offered that combination and from what I heard it worked pretty well. It would be interesting to see what Honda had to do to make that work.

Finally got my 991.2 C4S with PDK. The next one is going to be manual transmission for sure.
We are the last analog generation before losing to all these nanny electronics digital world.
Seem like all good review of 992 and the only thing I will like to change is remove that big hole in the middle of the transmission (central console). Toronto , Canada

Then the PDK user will smoke you in a drag race 24/7, 365 days of the year. What will irk you the most is driving behind his rear and he drives defensively so you can't overtake LMAO

I sure hope they don't offer a manual transmission with an electric car! That would be a gimmick like nothing else! The manual is purposed to keep the motor in the sweet torque or power range that the driver wants... but en electric motor is always in gear! A hybrid car, maybe, but should they bother, or go directly to electric?
