Hingis was my crush growing up. She was a year older than me and I couldn't believe someone so young was winning Wimbledon. An inspiration and an icon.

Martina 😍. She's my favourite player and she will always be. She's my age. I had a big crush on her when i was 16/17 years old. Still do. And R.I.P. Jana Novotna 😭. She passed away way too young.

Martina Hingis, who won here so soon wouldn't have imagined or expected that this would be her only Wimbledon final of her career. A wonderful and smart player falling short of great success in singles.

I love the way Hingis plays. She seems to be effortless. Wow! Players in this era seem to be so elegant. Unlike players since 2009 who always try to hit the hardest, like serena, sharapova, etc. There's no elegant movement.

It took me so long to get over Capriati in Australia 😔 I stanned Graf way before there was a Hingis so the French Open never bothered me. But yes so many other missed opportunities. Perhaps had she played in the 70s 80s. Got over powered and refused to amp up her serve
Injuries and a 2 years suspension ruined her single career. She's still won 25 Grand Slams. 20 in double and 5 in single. She could have achieved much more. Still a legend 😑. The biggest talent I've seen in my life. She did it all on pure talent. Martina didn't need steroids like the baboon sisters 😑.

Serving 2-0 , 30-15 Jana whiffed on a forehand and that was it. Had she made it to 3-0 she would’ve had the momentum . As crushing a defeat this was for Jana she greeted her doubles partner at the net genuinely happy for her like a sister . I hate that her life was. Cut short but at least she won the following year

One of a few players who can play tennis beautifully, perhaps she’s the smartest tennis player that ever lived, but she wasnt able to keep up with the new trend in tennis which was more of a power game, at first she was able to outsmart these hard hitters, but when players like Serena Williams started infusing power with extreme precision, thats when Hingis’ career started to decline plus she was also plagued by injuries.
Agree3 in part but wasn't Williams precision what outplayed Hingis but her super physical conditions. She could hit very hard on the run. It was very difficult to monouver the Williams

it so sad....that martina h literally got pushed off the court by bigger, stronger players..........hingis, capriati and radwanska ALL beautiful shot making expertise......the angles,volleys, drop shots.....lost out to power hitters.....
Major injuries and Surgery stop her at the age of 22. She still could handle bigger and stronger players.

Yep, the rackets were heavier the courts were different. Faster and lower bouncing than today.

I think Hingis is not playing to chase records, she is just playing with the abilities she has. and surprisingly, her confidence is very strong to fight at the age of 16 plus her intelligence on court. no wonder, she was able to hold on to the no. 1 position for a long time. being muscular is not her dream to beat hard hitters because she just wants to play as she is. What a legend, btw rip jana. Missed her too😢
the thing was, she capitalised in an era when Graf was on the way out, before the power hitting of the Williams sisters was too much for her to continue to finesse the ball
Sadly only one Wimbledon with all that talent, eventually superceded by The Williams sisters who she once said ‘I’ve see them and they’re not that good’ ....ouch
The Williams sisters are legends whose careers far eclipsed Hingis'. Martina can say whatever she wants because the history books will remember Venus and Serena - not Martina.

Martina learned a lot of tough life lessons on the world's stage. Watching her demise was almost enjoyable considering how arrogant she had become.

With steroid I hit ball hardest Serena women's tennis turned into exhausted screamfest. It's idiotic to make women play like men. Serena turned focus of women's tennis on "who serves hardest" that's it. It's not tennis it's some dull crap. Many Serena's matches are just boring.
