    Thank you for this! Got to see her 3 times last year in The Bay Area. It was a revelation as these were the first experiences I had where there was a real sense of humanness in a solo modular performance, and I got to tell her that afterwards! When she says she hears those snippetts, she hears herself thinking, the real time dialog between her and the instrument...that says a lot. Aside from the technical stuff, there's a real lesson in that.

    Another great video Loopop! I learned modular on a Buchla 200 series in a studio with quad capability (1997, Evergreen State College) and i used to rig up evolving quad patches and listen to them swim around the studio for hours. I really look forward to your ideas on achieving that with modern/eurorack equipment. Ordering my copy of the quadraphonic album now!

  • @mirkat1684
    @mirkat1684 6 років тому

    This is so rad to discover, I've been using a quad design for ambient jazz/prog experiences in the past using multiple stereo delay effects to split the signals and delay them for a rotary time effect. Since I mostly play stringed instruments, I'm working on a 6 channel system using the outputs of a hex pickup through a delay system to stagger strummed chords by string temporally and geographically with PA placement (even the Boss GP-10 can do this natively, though there's no way to output 6 signals). My issue is running into the physical limitations of venues, you can really only calibrate the ideal experience to one spot, the rest is unknown or less than ideal. Alas, that's part of the fun! I'll have to explore some of the tips here more!

    With all the talk on synthesis going on today, there is very little talk on quad systems from the "popular" big names today like Novation, Sequential, Arp, Korg, etc., but it seems quad, especially in performance, would be looked for. In this interview, new quad systems are mentioned. Now, over 3 years later are there any systems (affordable & available) today? P.S. love listening to Suzanne. She has a spritely spirit that mixes the technical with the human in a delightful way that wants me to hear more (Buchla & her)

  • @Nomo_Popo

    With 2 H9's I think it would be interesting to have one of the reverbs dry/wet or distance inverted from the other one so when you tilt from front to back or side to side the reverb goes down or gets shorter on one side while it gets longer or goes up on the other side.

      @loopop  6 років тому

      I don’t know - it depends on the decoder you have - I don’t think it’s an issue of the stylus, regardless I believe you actually can’t buy the vinyl without the hardware decoder so you should be ok with that. You should however email them just to be sure...

    • @CyKiK
      @CyKiK 6 років тому

      Hi There. Great question. On your vintage receiver if you use the QS mode it will decode the music straight from Spotify or any other music service. If you purchase the vinyl at cykik.com/quad/ it will also work with that as well. The decoder in your vintage receiver has older steering logic the one included with the release which we made with Involve Audio has unbelievable separation. If you use a Dolby Pro Logic II in music mode set to dimension -2 or -3. you can get pretty close to the involve one as well.

    How do you hook up the audio to something like this? If I had a 227, how would I wire it?

      I don’t actually have the 227 (unfortunately!!) but I believe it’s pretty straightforward with outputs for each of the four speakers

      So, is the Buchla 227e the only unit for doing this / achieving quadraphonic output, as far as you know?

      No not at all. I will show multiple ways to do that in software and hardware in part 2.
