Was stationed at Pearl decades ago, lived off post. Totally loved the aloha spirit. I was raised to be courteous, kind, helpful, etc., so fitting in was no problem. My parents drilled it into me that it doesn’t cost a nickel to be nice, even to people who are not necessarily nice to you.
i literally just got back from Hawaii 2 days ago and i was there for 2 weeks. I heard all kind of stuff about how the native Hawaiians didn't like tourists, didn't welcome us or tried to keep us away from their islands. No no no... they only don't like entitled tourists who think they deserve everything and beyond everyone. Man the people were so nice i have never seen such mannerism and respect from people like this before and i travel a lot. They obviously knew i was a visitor and every time i went somewhere, people always stopped and asked me questions and tried to have a conversation. Really made me thinking about moving to Hawaii for a minute.
I NEED to be in Hawaii...it has always been a dream for me...I have visited 3 times and have relatives there. I am now retired and now it's time to celebrate ME and someone very special. I'm not waiting for him because he hasn't found me yet but I am MOVING in 2019!!! Who will join me?
this is soooo true! back in 1987-88 i went to UH Manoa on exchange... and was in a dorm (Hale Noelani ~ house of the misty heavens... how beautiful is that?!?) and i was in with a bunch of mainland college students. i was so surprised that so many of them just didn’t get Hawaii... after about 2 weeks of enjoying the beach and partying, they were all up in their heads and complaining about the things they missed and couldn’t wait to get back to their mainland homes. me? i fell in love with the local culture... the people there are the nicest, friendliest most caring human beings i have ever come across in my life, then and since. i took a hawaiian language course and got to know so many locals.. and i was invited to so many family gatherings... they have so much real love for each other... so much laughter and playfulness.. and they also respected and included their elders with genuine care... i never felt so accepted and cared for in my life... and have never come across it in any other people since. when it was time to leave my heart was so soo heavy... i wanted to stay... but my exchange was only for a year. i planned to go back for graduate school... but ended up getting engaged... :/ and my Hawaiian dreams got derailed for the next 35 years. there are two types of people in this world... and Hawaii sorts them out and keeps God’s children. i’m retiring and coming home next summer Peter! i am SO happy i found your channel... you are reconfirming everything my heart discovered living there back in the 80’s... its good to know the spirit of Aloha is stronger than our malignant western culture. God bless and keep you and your family safe and healthy in these uncertain times. i’m being very careful so that my moving back will be unimpeded. i can’t wait!!! sophie
Something I really love with your videos is the way you film it. You sit in a car where you talk while driving it while the camera is looking around the place you drive by to show the beauty of hawaii. I really like it because it gives me the feeling of me sitting next to you in the car listening to you. I wanna move here one day to Honolulu. I am currently living in Sweden but is dreaming of living in hawaii and make a living of the Stock Market. Thanks for this video!
Aloha, my wife and I vacationed in Waikiki and then Maui this past January we are from the Northeast and we totally understand the loudmouth obnoxious people, we live it daily. We enjoyed Waikiki but it reminds us of New York and it was to busy for us. We then went to Maui which we encountered the Aloha spirit in our visit which felt magical, it’s not hard to grasp this culture and run with it. Even though our time was limited it has made a lasting impression on both of us and we long to return as soon as we can. Mahalo for the great videos, hope to see you on our next visit.
If you're new, don't know anybody, at a local's bar, and you hear "Last Call", you've probably stayed in there too long at that point and it's time to go
I will be traveling to Honolulu this September and i’m really looking forward to it. Always knew i never belonged here on the main land so I am hoping that Hawai’i is my place to be. I love the way of living and adventuring and everything is so natural. Thank for for these videos they were the exact explanations i needed to know before i go
I’m so glad! Make sure you follow the link in the description and sign up for the newsletter. I might be offering a tour in the fall and I will notify my subscribers.
Aloha, I just found you channel, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’ve been scoping land out there, but the pandemic seems to be the limiting factor before I can get there. Maybe I can still figure out the way to get there soon enough. Keep going on the videos it’s quite helpful!
Thanks for this Peter, you do such a great job of speaking the beauties of Hawaii to the world. Can't wait to meet you when I come through. Keep it up, really enjoy your page. Stay blessed
We'll be there for our 6th time this Thursday the 15th. Bringing our boys ages 8 and 10 for the first time. We love it there so much, every time we return to Minnesota we long to be there and want to live there. Thank you for this video. Much appreciated! We would move to Hawaii in a heartbeat but we want to make sure our boys can embrace it as well!
Children complicate matters, as you know there are a lot of reasons why they don't want to move no matter where they would move to. They don't want to lose their friends, for example. So you'll probably be faced with the general challenge of losing as opposed to the specific challenge of liking Hawaii. They are young, they will learn to like it one way or another. The key is going to be making their transition as smooth as possible. And that's not easy.
That is really a good idea, the problem is I can't fit a small group in my car :-). But I will think about other options because I think having discussions is a very good medium. Thanks for the suggestion. Really appreciate it.
Aloha Peter! Thanks for another awesome video. What a gorgeous day in Waikiki...almost felt like I was riding along with you. I really like your dialog topics. I can't live there right now but visiting Hawaii has helped me in so many subtle ways. l try to carry the Aloha Spirit with me in my mundane life on the mainland. I am more kind and compassionate. I smile and greet others with a more open heart. Your work is so much more than a travel log. Mahalo Nui!
I know my husband and I have become more courteous drivers. (We're on Kauai) We've also become much friendlier to everyone. We smile all the time and it's always returned. Courtesy is utmost here and it automatically makes you a happier and better person. Although, I laughed when you were impressed with the big, expensive houses. I grew up on Long Island in New York and those neighborhoods reminded of home. If I wanted that, I could have stayed in Massapequa! But, we didn't want that. We wanted the simpler life and we got it. I tell people that if they want to replicate life on the mainland, then they'll miss the whole point of Hawaii. Their loss.
Peter I am a new subscriber. I love hearing you talk about why it’s my dream to move there. You remind me of Steve Martin and father of the bride in his convertible. He is such a happy sweet man and I love the positivity in the energy. Thank you for your videos I love them!!!!!
welcome to the ohana! I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos. Make sure you click on the link in the description and sign up for the newsletter. The website has a ton of content.
This is so helpful, especially as I'm navigating a new career here. We have to be accountable for what we say and how we treat people, because we may see them at the next potluck =)
I am moving to Hawaii March 2019. I am looking for land to build a tiny home on so if you know of any land in a good area please let me know. It was my 49th birthday and I decided I wanted to go on a vacation, this would be a string of firsts for me; my first plane ride ( I have driven almost across the country and really don’t like flying) Anyway it was my first vacation, ever, my first plane ride, the first time I went somewhere without my children and I was alone. I will tell you I was terrified, but it didn’t stop me from going. I found a terrific travel agent, she walked me through everything and arranged a few fun things for me to do. I had a blast. I was in Oahu directly across the street from the beach, if you’ve watched the movie Avatar, the tree of life is in Oahu and I touched it, it was great. I went to a magic show and just walked, there were gold and silver men that looked like statues, and I was so surprised that people spoke to me. I am not an outgoing person and for people to go out of their way just to say Aloha touched me. I went on a few tours, I saw the Pineapple farm, the Byodo-In Temple and rang the bell 3 times for luck, Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor and I went parasailing. On one of the tours I went on, our tour guide’s name was Roy, or as he called himself, cousin Roy. He said we are human so we are all connected there are no strangers we are all family. This vacation happened 5 years ago and to this day what Cousin Roy said to me has never been forgotten; too bad we don’t all think this way. I suffer from tinnitus and after being in Hawaii for a night I woke up in a panic. I thought I had lost my hearing, I was in tears and was in such a state of terror. I sat down on the bed and told myself to breathe, that no matter what I could get through it. I was still in a state of panic but thought some air would help me so I walked out on the balcony of my hotel room and could hear people. I was so confused and happy too because I could hear. To make sure I wasn’t crazy, I picked up my phone and listened to my music, I still felt off, then I realized the noise that I’ve been hearing and ignoring for more than 20 years was gone. I thought I lost my hearing because the tinnitus I suffer from was no longer present, this was the most miraculous thing I had ever experienced, so much so that I didn’t want to go back home to Colorado. I wanted to stay so badly that I found a job and was willing to sleep on the street if I had to, but then the reality of my children and family and home set in so unfortunately I had to go home. When I got off the plane I was praying that the tinnitus would not return, but to my dismay after being back in Denver, CO the tinnitus returned with a vengeance, it was and is louder than ever or maybe I’m even more sensitive to it. I have never felt more connected to a place or to people (including my own family) then I did when I was in Oahu Hi. I have vowed to go back, this time it is to stay.
Really like your channel Peter! I lived in Ewa Beach throughout the 70’s. Getting ready to buy some property on the Big Island later this year. I’d like to definitely go through Mr. Nonaka on my purchase. Thanks for what you do. Very informative and helpful! 🤙🏝 Shawn Lewis

Hawaii is as much a place to live as a state of mind. And I think that is what people from the mainland that just show up at the airport, with their bags and a dream to live here, forget upon arrival. The smart ones come here multiple times and try to figure out what that state of mind is before landing. That means "do your research" as you implied in this video, and more or less told people in other videos. I myself am a person that encourages research by going to different places, seeing different people and really getting to know Hawaii people even before you come here. One way that is possible is through exchanges, conferences, and social interactions that one does on the mainland when there are a number of friends in different places. Doing your homework and knowing what you're getting into before arriving here is probably the best advice one can give, so that you understand the four items you just put into your video here...which to us locals - is second nature.
I'd say It's a place that outsiders have a very difficult time with. Click on the link in the description and get on my newsletter where I can help you find a home.
Peter, Thanks for another great video. I definitely love Hawaii, and want to live there. I will be an empty-nester soon, and then I will be moving to Kauai at least for part of the year. Being kind and respectful is good advice wherever you live. I will try hard to be a good haole. Mahalo from your friend in Green Bay, Pete
Peter Stanko you will find out that there aren’t to many Hawaiians living in Kauai. And a lot of those haoles living there aren’t very nice, no aloha...
Peter!! You are an inspiration person n so admiring you so much on any video that you posted! Very Unique n How is Beautiful n Best of Hawaii cultures ☝️👌🍾🎉
I visited kauai for the first time in October 2018, we stayed for a month and fell in love..literally cried and embraced the Aloha culture. I think the Hawaiians are beautiful. I want to live there..its just me and my husband we are trying to figure out how to move there. I have family member and her children that just moved there in August 2018. We are trying to do the same. Please reach out to me, I have a business idea and would love to discuss this with you.
Follow the link to my website. Sign up for the newsletter which goes out every week. You can also get to me through the contact form on that same site. Good luck to you!
OMG you're so right! I've lived here so long I've completely taken that statement for granted! That needs its own video but I'd say they are the same kind of values that I express later in the video that make up a "loud mouthed haole". But thank you. I think that will be one of the next upcoming videos and definitely needs clarification.
He is talking about the negative side of Mainland culture. People on the mainland jump to aggression and nastiness to get their way. There is a sweetness about people in the islands that is often lacking in mainlanders. I split time between California and Hawaii, and not only do I experience a big difference in how people treat each other, I as a result behave differently in each place. In California I have to put up my guard. In Hawaii I feel more relaxed in the presence of other people.
I love Hawaii so much! I visited Maui twice in the last few years and Oahu for a day trip in August. Maui was my favorite....it was a lot less populated. What would be your advice for moving to Hawaii as a realtor? I've been licensed in Pennsylvania for 9 years
Follow the link in the description to "How you can get a job in Hawaii" and that applies to you too. www.aimforawesome.com/how-to-find-a-job-in-hawaii/ten-steps-to-finding-a-job-in-hawaii/
Howzit Peter, My Wife & I are planning on moving to Oahu in 2yrs. And are looking to purchase a lease hold property in the city. Could you please make a video on " how to spot a SCAM for Lease Hold Properties in Hawaii" ? It would be greatly appreciated! Mahalo,
I miss back home but because the rent was expensive i moved away from the island and i live here in vegas) if living was'nt so expensive i would'nt have left
I love and miss hawaii i was born and raised there i had 3 jobs and i still could'nt make it so i moved away and came to vegas) and i didnt know they had no beach,l love camping but not doing it in the forest
Peter, wow how crazy!!!! my wife wants me to go to Hawaii to "heal" and learn to not be so angry...i didn't search for this video it was in my suggested videos...and here you are telling me all this?!?!?! As soon as the quarantine is lifted i'll be in Hilo as I've already got a room. any suggestions on my adventure?
click on the link in the description and get on the newsletter. We have a live show every other Friday with someone who was born and raised on the big island
I lived in many countries I think this were I want to move. I'm currently in New York I want to save and look for work their. I love the idea of being by the beach and hiking and meeting the locals what traditional food do they have? Hawaii is good cuSe dont have to worry about Visa and I can still go abroad when I want it's near my favorite countries.
Would be nice if you did that video on race topic that you talked about in this video. I've been wanting to understand that better. Love the videos, thanks for making them.
We visited with some ladies in Maui that just returned from Oahu. They said there are a lot of homeless and drug addicts in the Waikiki area, how do you stay safe?
Aloha! I am a senior in high school, looking to attend UH Manoa. It has been my dream to move to Hawaii for the last three years. I want to be a real estate agent. Do you think that because "everybody knows everybody," a RE agent would be an incredibly difficult/ impossible career on O'ahu? I know that RE is hard regardless, but if you have any input specific to Hawaii that would mean so much. I was considering going straight into real estate, but on the other hand I feel that college might be the right path so that I can meet local people, grow more as a person, and learn more about Hawaiian culture. Please feel free to tell me any input you have (negative or positive). Thank you.
you got a lot of questions packed in there. Click on the link in the description and sign up for the newsletter. I got a lot of content on the website that can help you.
ha! if you're white - it's already Srike 1, but you still have a chance... hahah - perfect. Can't wait for your video on Racism - that could go VERY viral.
Is It safe to assume that typical permanent residents of Hawaii rarely visit the other islands? I get the impression that most Hawaiians just stay on their own home island.
And that is why they called the white man from the ships Haoles because they recognized that the sailors had no breath. I had not heard Aloha spoken of that way before, but I do agree.
I always look forward to your videos. I can't wait to move there. I'm thinking Kona. Do you have the chance to go to the other islands? Oahu is beautiful. About racism....you find it everywhere or nowhere. I think it depends on how you behave and treat others, and if someone says something unkind, how you react (or don't react) to it. Maybe not everyone is going to like you and that's okay...they are missing out on maybe making a really good friend. I've grown up in a very diverse area and get along with everyone. I expect Hawaii will be just as warm and welcoming as you describe it.
Yes I've been to all the islands and am thinking about doing a video on describing the differences between them. You are exactly correct about the racism issue. I'm also going to make a video about racism in Hawaii because many have misconstrued it
ALOHA, Sir! Nice view before the 8th of August 2023. It takes skills to drive that fast while giving a live show on the road 🛣️. About these beautiful houses behind solid fense, is it the way to demonstrate that the owners did embrace the ALOHA spirit? Today is Saturday, 26 of August, 2023, after the horrible tragedy showing that an evil force had decided to spit out the natives of MAUI, LAHAINA, HAWAII from their land. Something is not fair. I hope you are alive.
Thanks for your insight on the islands your video about three different kinds of homeless people here was right on the money I just wish some of the politicians would get a good look at it maybe you can do a story in Chinatown and Waikiki they're weed and seed law fell through like a ton of bricks it has gotten worse with the vagrants, the residents and the business people have just about thrown their hands up they don't know what to do thank you again for your insight
of course one should respect any culture when visiting them. As an American Veteran I hate it when i travel and i run into Other Americans who think they are the greatest people from the greatest country on Earth. But having said that i think u showing off the Million dollar houses in Hawaii may turn off many middle class people. I make under $50,000 a year and have to save up all year for a vacatiion....so i would like to see the middle class neighborhoods where i can feel more comfortable and enjoy myself without having to pretend i am one of the rich people.
Oh boy... so just my online name alone triggers people, as I'm sure you can imagine. But I've always had an outgoing people personality who can adapt to any situation. With that being said, for many many years I have seen the decline of morals, ethics and values among people here on the mainland. And I absolutely can't stand it. It's to the point now that people these days we'll bring out the absolute worst in you whether you want to be that or not. If the people of Hawaii are the exact opposite of that as you say, it will be like being among the people of my dreams. I love being around people who are upbeat and happy all the time. I love it when I can meet somebody who can bring out that part of me. Those are the people that I crave to be around. Not all of this hateful nastiness that you see today. I'm watching all of your videos as you suggested so I can see if moving to Hawaii will be the right thing for me. Thank you and keep them coming.
@@livehawaii honestly. I'm not one of those who think it's ok to attack people for their political beliefs. I think everyone has a right to believe and live the way they want to with out interference or fear of being attacked for it. 2 things I don't discuss among people is politics and religion. These days those 2 things make people lose their minds. So I just avoid it.
We are leaving Hawaii. (Kahala, Oahu...you passed by my neighborhood) The Aloha spirit is gone. It’s beautiful scenery, houses, and beaches but not worth the $$$$$$ Homeless people, and drugs everywhere. The economy is destroyed due to the corrupt inadequate politicians and the refusal to open up the state to tourism which is the sole source of revenue. I estimate it will take 6-7 years to reach pre-COVID conditions, but the state will still be bankrupt and taxes will increase. Also there are very few jobs available. Facial recognition cameras being installed at the airport, the state is becoming communist. Mandatory COVID19 tests are coming, and Who wants to be COVID tested every time you want to go/return home to Hawaii only to be rejected travel due to a faulty test kit? I predict an exodus of Hawaii residents moving to better run states on the mainland. I have lived here forever, but we have come to the conclusion we want a better life in a well run state and money in the bank.
@@livehawaii HI PETER, ENJOYING YOUR VIDEOS. HOPE HAWAII WILL BE BETTER AFTER THIS VIRUS IS CONQUERED. I'VE VISITED HAWAII BEFORE AND I ENJOYED THE PEOPLE AND THE ENVIRONMENT. MAHALO.
Sorry Pete but i disagree with you on the Island being small. I being to Oahu many times since i have family there and i travel the Island many times when i;m there visiting. No point intended just wanted to share my opinion on that cause it can take about two hours to go around the whole Island by car specially cause you can only drive around 25 to 35 miles per hour except when you jump on the freeway. In other words plenty big to drive around and many beautiful places to check out and eat. Aloha.....
Well done. Well explained. So many "immigrants" (e.g. from other countries or mainland USA, mainland China immigrating to other states or provinces in Canada...etc.) who don't try to fit in. Think they don't need to embrace the "local culture". Which IS a problem in most places. More so Hawaii. As the "Aloha Spirit" is so strong and a part of life. In other cities...such as, Toronto (Ontario, Canada) the way the city is setup...it sort of "encourages" people not to have to try to fit in. There is 7 "Chinatowns" (predominantly Chinese areas, lower income to multi-million dollar areas). So well established in every way (e.g. medical access, shopping and entertainment..etc.) that Chinese-immigrants with enough finances can stay in those areas and never have to venture out and "meet people". Non-Asian. So they can immigrate without having a good command of the English language. And exist. Happily. Which is never a good thing in any city, state/province or country IMHO. Makes life not as happy and likely adds to the stresses of everyday life. Which really I don't think you can escape. Even living in Hawaii. The difference is the amount of stress is greatly reduced in Hawaii if you embrace the "Hawaiian ways". Some one asked..is diversity not accepted? Of course it IS. :) I'd say more so for Asians. More so than in any other state. It's the one state where Asians are the majority. Helps that the history between the Polynesians and Asians have always been good. So there's a better union/mix. And why I think there are so many Polynesian/Filipino mix people. Polynesian/Japanese. Polynesian/Chinese. Polynesian/Korean (maybe less so). It's only when Asian immigrants or vacationers behave as "brash Haoles" and take advantage of the "Alopha Spirit". Throwing their weight around. Mistaking the "Aloha Spirit"/friendliness and hospitality as "weakness". So many people out there do this. Not having any real "power/authority" in their regular everyday lives...visit Hawaii...see most Hawaiians willing to bend over backwards for them (esp in the hospitality industry). Feel they can be pushy and disrespectful. Happens everywhere. I'd LOVE to move to Hawaii some day. Just can't yet afford the home I'd want to have (e.g. ocean front w/ beach).. :) Mahalo!!
I’m sure the locals are hard-working Hell you have too.Peter but those that come there to surf and sleep on the beaches and mooch to survive there should be something done about it. I watched a video where a man was complaining about feces in his doorway of his business. Sounds like it’s turning into San Francisco.
Can a white man LIKE ME and a NATIVE FIRST NATION CREE LADY which we are both from Canada I married, can we move to HAWAII, if we have all the Canadian Government documents provided to live there ? p.s. whatever other people think negative , this is the most lesser CRIME STATE in the U.S.A with thanks; Jay Dyer
I think that is more of an immigration question then it is a Hawaii question. Have you researched the u.s. immigration laws? That would be where I would go first.
Native Hawaiians are the minority (5% or 10% if you include mixes). Most Hawaiaans are Asian. How do the Asians embrace aloha, because the Japanese are very reserved.
Mahalo nui for explaining the typical mainland haole mentality, you are 100% dead on the spot Hawaiian for sharing our cultural values to the malihinis 😄. I moved to the mainland 7 years ago and boy is a cultural shock for me anko... way different da mainland. No moa da aloha up hea . You say hello to somebody at the store here and they look at you crazy ... I trip but eh mahalo fo dakine sharing our culture lattad. K den
My whole purpose for moving here IS to have this culture infused in me. I'm coming from a quantity over quality, high stress, unfriendly state. My hope is that Hawaii will permeate through me.

Aloha Peter and mahalo nui for these videos. Hawai’i is my spiritual home but I hope to make it a physical home one day. Hawai’i no ka oi! 🌺
Mahalo! Keep focusing on the end result and you will make it here one day.
Great video. Love the format of you driving around. What type or model of car is it.
Porsche Boxster 987S; best car I've ever owned in my life
It's either one or another ... as for me, I love living in Hawaii (on Maui specifically). And one of the "flown not grown" local kine :)
right! I'm glad we connected on UA-cam!
Love the palms and bougainvillea. I can feel your happiness. ❤️
Thanks for sharing your experience, thoughts and enthusiasm. I feel the Aloha in you words.
Thanks! I'm so glad you can feel it.
In Hawaii, not just everybody knows everybody but everybody related to everybody. It’s pretty crazy!
Exactly, I mentioned that in the video. It really keeps everybody in line.
love these videos, keep em coming!
I'm planning on every other Tuesday
Loved it! Such true wisdom. I'd love to see a video on local foods of Hawaii.
Ok will do!
Wonderfully fun travels w/you...Thank you!
I'm glad you're enjoying them!
Aloha, I just found you channel, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’ve been scoping land out there, but the pandemic seems to be the limiting factor before I can get there. Maybe I can still figure out the way to get there soon enough. Keep going on the videos it’s quite helpful!
Welcome! Get on the newsletter and join us live every other Friday!
Thanks for this Peter, you do such a great job of speaking the beauties of Hawaii to the world. Can't wait to meet you when I come through.
Keep it up, really enjoy your page.
Stay blessed
Thank you for the kind words
Aloha Enjoying your content! Mahalo for putting it out there, I have to chuckle sometimes but it's true info. Uncle Peter you have Aloha!
Mahalo! Really appreciate that!
Next video - perhaps a small group discussion that includes native people, people who have moved there many years ago and some newcomers.
That is really a good idea, the problem is I can't fit a small group in my car :-). But I will think about other options because I think having discussions is a very good medium. Thanks for the suggestion. Really appreciate it.
Living in Hawaii ... Take one or two at a time.
I am going to try that!
Mahalo Nui!
Mahalo for such kind comments! That's exactly the effect I wanted: it's like you and I are going for a ride, talking story and enjoying the scenery!
Their loss.
Well said! I totally agree.
Thank you, Peter. More please...!
Ok! Thanks for subscribing!
❤ So helpful. Thank you. ❤
That was excellent... I'll watch that a few times. Thanks man - and keep them coming!
I think I am getting into my groove with these now... Thanks for the kind words

Peter I am a new subscriber. I love hearing you talk about why it’s my dream to move there. You remind me of Steve Martin and father of the bride in his convertible. He is such a happy sweet man and I love the positivity in the energy. Thank you for your videos I love them!!!!!

This is so helpful, especially as I'm navigating a new career here. We have to be accountable for what we say and how we treat people, because we may see them at the next potluck =)

Are there movies theatre's there when I was in hilo and kona I could not find one
I don't know of any but let me know if you find them!

Well said, Stan!
I'd love to learn more about moving to Maui - would you consider doing a video on that?
Yes! I'm going to make a video about the difference between the islands.
Hi Peter, looking at everything specifically cost I'm thinking of waianane, but i 've read it's unsafe is that true?
I'd say It's a place that outsiders have a very difficult time with. Click on the link in the description and get on my newsletter where I can help you find a home.
Peter,
Thanks for another great video. I definitely love Hawaii, and want to live there. I will be an empty-nester soon, and then I will be moving to Kauai at least for part of the year.
Being kind and respectful is good advice wherever you live.
I will try hard to be a good haole.
Mahalo from your friend in Green Bay,
Pete
Peter Stanko you will find out that there aren’t to many Hawaiians living in Kauai. And a lot of those haoles living there aren’t very nice, no aloha...
How are you filming? Turning the camera and so on? Thanks. Oh, i moved here 4 years ago and love it!!!!

Oh sure! It’s the Rylo. Super cool.

What is the local culture?
i want to save this place, cause it is made of glass in many manners.
i'm hispanic from new york. and yes i'm a loud mouth. would that make me a loud mouth holi? lol
It sure would!
Even worse is if you like to honk your car horn.
How do you film these? Do you ever sit in a park?
Not sure what your question is. I’m in a car.
Thanks for this! Is there a lot of opportunities to use Japanese if I speak it?
Oh yeah
Is their a difference between islands? Job? Housing?
See my other video on this channel about the right island for you
Please define what haole mainland values are... I just want to understand.
You do go on... Still... Lovely parks. Unaffordable for most of us commoners. Great place to visit thoe.
Well im only 12 but i have decided, eventually i will move to Hawaii. Have you got any tipps for me? Great Videos!
I love Hawaii so much! I visited Maui twice in the last few years and Oahu for a day trip in August. Maui was my favorite....it was a lot less populated. What would be your advice for moving to Hawaii as a realtor? I've been licensed in Pennsylvania for 9 years

Howzit Peter,
My Wife & I are planning on moving to Oahu in 2yrs. And are looking to purchase a lease hold property in the city.
Could you please make a video on " how to spot a SCAM for Lease Hold Properties in Hawaii" ?
It would be greatly appreciated!
Mahalo,
Great suggestion! I'll add that to my list.
I miss back home but because the rent was expensive i moved away from the island and i live here in vegas) if living was'nt so expensive i would'nt have left
It's really sad to know about people who have to leave
I love and miss hawaii i was born and raised there i had 3 jobs and i still could'nt make it so i moved away and came to vegas) and i didnt know they had no beach,l love camping but not doing it in the forest
Peter, wow how crazy!!!! my wife wants me to go to Hawaii to "heal" and learn to not be so angry...i didn't search for this video it was in my suggested videos...and here you are telling me all this?!?!?! As soon as the quarantine is lifted i'll be in Hilo as I've already got a room. any suggestions on my adventure?

I lived in many countries I think this were I want to move. I'm currently in New York I want to save and look for work their. I love the idea of being by the beach and hiking and meeting the locals what traditional food do they have? Hawaii is good cuSe dont have to worry about Visa and I can still go abroad when I want it's near my favorite countries.
Would be nice if you did that video on race topic that you talked about in this video. I've been wanting to understand that better.
Love the videos, thanks for making them.
It’s on my list. I’m thinking a lot about it
We visited with some ladies in Maui that just returned from Oahu. They said there are a lot of homeless and drug addicts in the Waikiki area, how do you stay safe?
Exercise the same caution you would in any other large city
What are the "values?"
I don’t go through them by point but watch the video on what it’s like to live here to get a better idea
Embrace aloha for a start. Throw in Irreverence, honor and respect and you should be well on your way. 🤙
I cant imagine being a jerk anywhere I live. Should always be kind. I live in south Florida, and people here are very rude. Beautiful drive!
Most people do not think of themselves as jerks. I'm certain if you ask the people in florida, they will tell you they are kind and courteous.
ha! if you're white - it's already Srike 1, but you still have a chance... hahah - perfect. Can't wait for your video on Racism - that could go VERY viral.
Thought you'd get a kick out of that one...
Love ❤ from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 🙏
Love watching your videos! Planning on relocating my family there. I like your honesty :)
Honesty is the only way to live, right?
Absolutely :)
How about a video on the disappearance of Vog! The big island is much nicer now!
Good one!
Diversity is new speak or the politically correct term for segregation. Hawaii is diverse/segregated in the aloha spirit, a beautiful thing.
Yes, indeed! There is a good argument that Hawaii is probably the most culturally diverse and integrated place on Earth.
Is It safe to assume that typical permanent residents of Hawaii rarely visit the other islands? I get the impression that most Hawaiians just stay on their own home island.
It depends on individual circumstances. Some have family in the others islands. Others have jobs. Some never travel.
You need to stop Leonard's Bakery first get your Malasadas and Kona coffee before you come to beach.
That's a fantastic idea. However if I do that I'll never make the video :-)
I did'nt want to leave the island where i was born i just could'nt afford the rent and i was homeless for a year too and i moved to the mainland
Are you driving a 911 Carrera?
Boxster 987
I pledge not to become a loudmouth haole if I ever make the move! Thanks for the master class on Hawaiian slang and culture.
Lol you're welcome?
Oh boy... so just my online name alone triggers people, as I'm sure you can imagine.
Given your online name, I suggest you look into the political make up of Hawaii. It is pretty hard left from most standards.
So diversity is not encouraged?
What makes you say that?
Peter Kay Living in Hawaii Looks like that it's either the locals' way or the highway.
That's my opening sentence.
when you ask questions like this...then I would say Hawaii is definitely not for you. Unless you love the uphill climb to adaptation lol
Well said!
People here in the mainland are not like the people back home we know the meaning of the word aloha and ohana
%100
We are leaving Hawaii. (Kahala, Oahu...you passed by my neighborhood)
The Aloha spirit is gone.
It’s beautiful scenery, houses, and beaches but not worth the $$$$$$
Homeless people, and drugs everywhere.
So sorry to hear that Hans and you may be right that many will leave
Aloha.....
Really appreciate you taking the time to share
:) Mahalo!!
Very well said and very insightful!
That may be true if you are coming from the States. But, there's a lot of discrimination against Micronesians.
"If your white that's a strike1, but you still have a chance" haha that's so funny.
If you can't make a little fun of yourself what's the point, right?
@@livehawaii Exactly Pete, if anybody comes to Hawaii with a bad attitude, Your'e Out Of Here........
Right!
love it
with the whole black lives matter....being racist in your remarks are WRONG! WRONG ANSWER!!!!
I’m sure the locals are hard-working Hell you have too.Peter but those that come there to surf and sleep on the beaches and mooch to survive there should be something done about it. I watched a video where a man was complaining about feces in his doorway of his business. Sounds like it’s turning into San Francisco.
I have a video about the homeless situation. Watch that one
Can a white man LIKE ME and a NATIVE FIRST NATION CREE LADY which we are both from Canada I married, can we move to HAWAII, if we have all the Canadian Government documents provided to live there ?
p.s. whatever other people think negative , this is the most lesser CRIME STATE in the U.S.A
with thanks; Jay Dyer
I think that is more of an immigration question then it is a Hawaii question. Have you researched the u.s. immigration laws? That would be where I would go first.
Native Hawaiians are the minority (5% or 10% if you include mixes). Most Hawaiaans are Asian. How do the Asians embrace aloha, because the Japanese are very reserved.
Everybody that lives in Hawaii embraces the Aloha Spirit. Race or skin color doesn't matter.
i am SO done with milwaukee winter...and summer, it is so ugly and zapped of color.
K den
Shoots!
My whole purpose for moving here IS to have this culture infused in me. I'm coming from a quantity over quality, high stress, unfriendly state. My hope is that Hawaii will permeate through me.
To the degree you embrace it, it will!
