For those that go in 2017, don't forget there are tunnels near Vimy, built by the Canadians in order to come up behind the German lines, these are open to the public, and are well worth a visit
+loosewheels1000 I've done research on these tunnels before and is one of the aspects I look most forward to when I travel to Vimy on this trip next year. They are very fascinating.
+Hannah S , Hanna, I'm not Canadian, But its still very moving , if you get the chance, go to Boulogne just south of Calais, there are many Canadian war graves around there as there are on the way to Calais, as it was the Canadians that took that town in WW2. Not being morbid, but if you go to war cemetery, you will find a metal door on a wall.open it and there will be a booklet, it will say what fighting took place at that area and who lies there.
I only be to see it 2 times and this year be home watching it on TV. With heavy heart cause those that I was there with have gone to be with there Friends who laid down there lives in WW1 and WW2 both Great Grand father Scott and Grand Father Higgins LD are no longer with us.
There are no surviving ww1 veterans in 2017. Their legacy lives on. Now ww2 veterans are about disappear. Please take the moment to honor them before they are all gone.
It's great how the Scot's are never mentioned when they took half of Vimy Ridge and I suppose with all the Scottish Regiments in the Canadian army one could say the Scots took the Ridge.
