With the horrible freeze coming through most of the country, this idea is excellent for homeowners who might not have the proper tools. Thank you, Leah, you are saving lives!!!
Always nice to hear from you my friend.
Am I glad you had this video, the last three times I started a campfire under my sink.
Thank you Leah.
My dad built houses so I grew up working and learning a lot. He passed New Years Eve’98.
I would like to add another method if you have an electric heated shoulder and back pad, they’re flexible and will wrap around pipes very easily. That’s if you have an outlet to plug into. Most of them have a safety shutoff after a couple of hours but they still work good for thawing pipes.
For pipe insulation, we use pool noodles, they’re much cheaper than the pipe insulation and easy to split with a knife and fit around pipes.
Make sure to wrap outside faucets also. And any foundation vents that let outside air under your house.
God bless you , Leah.
Stay warm and safe and have a Blessed Christmas.
Both of those ideas are genius !!
I’m sorry for your loss Paula. Thanks so much for sharing these fabulous tips.👍👍 Hope you have a wonderful and merry Christmas. God bless. 🎄
Perfect timing Leah !! From across the pond , your fan base is growing , the word is out !!
You're too kind, thank you.
Hi Leah! Had some frozen pipes at home today, and mom had some too with dad out of town. Had to talk her through doing it with a hair drier and she saved her new kitchen!
Hope you're staying toasty warm.
Love this channel. No clickbait just straight good info
Once again, thanks Miss Leah. The artic blast we are experiencing froze the hot water pipe to the bathtub. I was wondering what I was going to do. Not to worry because you always provide relevant information.

Just saw you on History Channel!!! 🥳💕👍 I felt so cool telling my parents that I "know" you lol. Great job. So happy to finally see it 👏
Very timely tips! Of course, another source of water for the bag/hw bottle could be snow and ice from outside. Use the problem for the solution!
Super advice and timely too. You can put a washcloth in the zipper freezer bag then add hot water to fully surround the washcloth or hand towel. Experiment. Done right this will make it possible to wrap the zipper bag completely around the pipe thus speeding things up. A Velcro strap would be a big help to hold around the pipe. Ribbon or strap works too. Make two bags to alternate by re-heating second bag in a pot of hot, not boiling, water. Your advice is always very good and presented in a calm, clear way. Thanks.
I use a rice buddy (rice in a sock) that is heated in the microwave. Retains heat for a considerable time and conforms to the pipe. Cheers🙂
It works on my stiff joints, so why not on my frozen pipes too?! Thank you!
Love that Idea
I suggest using a clean sock.😊
@@louislandi938 Why, are you going to eat out of it afterwards?
I have no hair dryer, no heating pad and no zip lock bags but I DO have a rice sock! Thank you!!
FYI ... an empty 2 liter soda bottle is great also; fill it up with hot water not boiling water. :) Thanks Leah!!
Great timing, Leah, with this polar vortex swinging down and saying hi to people down further than people are used to having it.
I love the "you can do this" so much better than the "If I can do it, you can". I know it is meant well, but it always was so self deprecating, when really you never should. Thank you for sharing your skills :) .
Always so clear, concise, to the point, and helpful! Thank you, Leah!
What timing for this video! 😂 Thanks!
My pipes were frozen this morning and you really helped me 👍
I have pipes on the north side of my house that freeze, I get a mirror and use reflected sunlight to gently thaw it. Be sure to keep an eye on it, the reflected light can set fires. I solar cook in the summer, so I figured it would also thaw the pipe. Works fast.
Very timely video, which I hope not many will have to use. Another great source of water is the water heater tank. I have a tankless, so always keep several Jerry cans full. Merry Christmas, Leah!
Hi Leah. Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas.
Thanks, Miss Leah. This is another good reason to fill a bath tub or other storage with water for flushing and cleaning, when weather is looking ugly.
I was watching secret restoration and said hey they look familiar! Great job on the steamer trunk, and of course a great video! Keep on keeping on
Merry Christmas and thank you for all you do!!!
Happy holidays!
Happy Holiday Leah!
Have a great Christmas , Leah !!
Excellent....because we are in the midst of a storm. Let's hope our electricity stays on to heat up the water!!
Merry, Merry Christmas Leah and to all your followers. Have a Blessed and safe Christmas everyone.
Peace on earth, good will toward men.
Great info. My daughter, re another story, mentioned frozen pipes. She said ours can’t freeze. Yep, I walked away. ☺ I’m going to cellar today to take a look. Again
You're the best Leah. Thanks again for such useful information.
Leaaa I am doing my son clothes because you said, I can do this...Feliz navidad y prospero ano nuevo for every one🧑🎄🤶🎅
Leah,
You pointed out practical options that in a crisis we might not consider. I will remember these but hope I never need them. You are a priceless source of information! Many thanks!
Leah, great info. Worked great for me. And, I love you on the restoration show. Keep going strong. Merry Christmas.
Heyyy Ms.Leah 🥰. You are the BOMB 👌🏽… you just added happiness to my existence. Thanks again Sis.
Wow! Oh happy day!
Continued blessings.
Hi Leah 👋, good tips thanks 😊 hope you have a blessed Christmas and a happy new year.
Hi Leah
Merry Christmas and thanks for your posts. It’s very helpful 🙏
Thank you. I needed this really bad. My husband is in the hospital and the pipe leading out of my well appears to be frozen. The wind tore off the roof of the well house and the insulation. When the water stopped working yesterday, I did have enough sense to turn off the pump and the hot water heater at the breaker. I'm going to try the hot water bottle, insulating it while I drive out to the well house. Hopefully my husband will be coming home today too. Wish me luck.
I absolutely LOVE this woman! - Thank you, SeeJaneDrill!!! -and merry Christmas!
Right on time as always. Thank you Leah Merry Christmas
thank you, Leah! you are so kind and caring! merry Christmas!
With the recent deep freeze temperatures we had in the north west, I got two frozen pipes one pipe was for hot water bathroom faucet and the other pipe was for baseboard heating. I learned from "this old house" video you're supposed to open the faucet to relieve pressure and then slowly heat the pipe with blow dryer. Frozen pipe pressure can build up to 25,000 psi and burst the pipe. After applying heat I was able to get running water on the hot water faucet however with the baseboard heating pipe it burst after applying heat slowly over time. What I later realized is the heating pipe built up pressure from being frozen solid, it needed to be relieved so it won't burst when you're trying to melt it slowly with blow dryer. Furthermore baseboard heating pipes are low pressure compared to regular water pipes. I saw on my heating system boiler there is a pipe you can connect a hose to drain the pipe and relieve pressure. If I knew to drain & relieve the heating pipe pressure prior then likely my pipe would've not burst. Learned valuable lesson for next time. Now I'll learn from Leah's burst copper pipe repair video and get my pipe fixed.
Great info. as always Leah. Merry Christmas to you and your family. All the best for 2023.
Leah, what a timely and useful tip. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!
Happy holidays!
great idea...you could also wrap a thick towel around the water bottle/freezer bag to insulate it a bit to keep the water warm longer
Great idea!
Warning, somebody is impersonating Jane in comments and asks you to contact them. Don't contact them!
Thanks Leah. Great great tips. I used the freezer bag method and the pipe thawed a couple hours later.
great tips... BTW love your restoration show
Thanks for watching the show. I appreciate the support.
Thank you with the hot water bag tip. I live up in mass and a tenant's hot water boiler busted and in repairing that, the pipes froze. The area is right up against the studs so I had to use a heat gun but I remembered your video and used a rubber water bag and a gel heat pack with periodic heat gun application and I got it unthawed in two hours.
You can always use snow too! Boil or microwave into water.
I love your videos and you too.
Merry Christmas. 🎉🎉🎈🎈🎄🎄
Happy holidays!
Right on thank you Merry Christmas 😎✌🏻
Wow what an interesting coincidence. My dad's house had a broken frozen pipe today. I was looking up how to fix it and your video happened to show up on my sub feed
Clear flex hose with radiator clamps will work if in a bad spot....like behind cabinets....cut out bad pipe & apply
Can you make a video: The most essential tool kit to keep in your car or have on you at all times. Thanks
We used a hairdryer to defrost frozen external pipes on a houseboat in Amsterdam during winter. It took a long time, due to the length of exposed pipe. It took some time due to the fact that copper is a good heatsink and means the heat travels to parts we weren't defrosting, and with enough patience we managed to defrost ~4.5ft just under 1.5 meters of pipe.
Great tips, thanks. Happy holidays to you and your family.
Happy holidays!
Thank you Leah.. thos ideas are something I never would have thought of.
Wow...Leah...Thank you You have a Treasure of Knowledge God Bless you for sharing and helping us out!!!! Merry Christmas..
MERRY CHRISTAMS !!!

Happy holidays!
Timely video Leah!
Have a very Merry Christmas, Leah and a Happy New Year. Thanks for all the wonderful videos.
Thank you priceless valuable information
Leah your awesome!!!
Some freezable cold compress pads can also be heated in a microwave or a hot water bath. The latter is particularly key if the freezing temperatures also mean that the power is out, and it's why I have a portable isobutane canister stove.
Thank you! 3 minutes and straight to the point!
Leah, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !!!
Thanks for sharing this with us, Happy Holidays!
I woke up today to frozen pipes in my kitchen. I've had the stove going since about noon and still nothing. Can't exactly locate the frozen pipes because my laundry room is directly on the other side of my kitchen sink. Thanks so much for your timely advice, Leah.

Excellent tips as always. Thanks Leah and have a wonderful Christmas. Loved your last show on History Channel when you restored that old camera. You're fantastic on the television. 👍🏻❤️👍🏻
It seems you also got a message to contact outside of youtube, but that one is not from Jane - someone is impersonating her in comments. Don't fall for it.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
@@martinlaak Saw it and ignore those as most should do. AND not even mention them.
Excellent information 👌 and I thank you 😊
I’m not sure why but I haven’t seen you in a while.
Happy to see you again!

Hi Leah,
I caught you on TV show Secret Restoration cast.I wish you all the luck and big thank you for all you have shared with us.We can do it!
Thanks John
This is timely lol. Thank you.
Good tips , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Thanks for sharing this with us, Leah.
Hi Leah, I found a "next level" solution to thawing frozen pipes. I invented this technique last year. I do HVAC for a living in Massachusetts.
I activate those pocket hand warmers and secure them to the pipe with tape or zip tie!! No flame, no power needed. You don't have to babysit the pipe either. What do ya think??
I made sure all my vents were covered and left water dripping but the pipes that go to my washing machine froze. Not use to this weather in Tennessee. I was going to turn on my washer on to let it run a bit at only 9pm and it was already frozen. Now my shower is frozen too...the hot water not the cold
Seldom willthe hot water freeze as well butit can happen
I love this channel. Always good advice. She had me at tick stick
Good timing with this video here in North Carolina it was only 17 Degrees today and overnight tonight it's supposed to drop into the Single Digits like 8 Degrees so the water pipes up at our Barn will definitely be frozen being the barn is not heated. I feel bad for the Horses and Chickens that will be without heat tonight and all outdoor animals in general. 🐴🐴🐔🐔 By the way I have been enjoying the New show you are in Secret Restoration. 📺🥶👍Good stuff !!
Thank you for watching and supporting me on the show.
I also just bought some plumbing antifreeze just in case of a prolonged power outage to help protect those drains and toilets.
Great and timely information, Leah ! Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and yours ! 🤠🎅
Merry Xmas from uk lv your videos
I had a sink that would freeze regularly and when I looked at the pipes I saw the hot water to the tub was on the same line. I opened the tap on the sink and ran the hot water for the tub until the pipe warmed enough to start flowing again.
Never had frozen pipes fortunately, but I imagine people in Texas are appreciating this right now. How about a video on getting rid of useless politicians?
Really great recommendations thanks so much Leah
0:24 "Lying around." Thank you, Leah! You and I are two of the few who know when to use 'lie' and when to use 'lay'. And you're nowhere near as old as I. Yep, folks, 'I', not me. Repeat the verb: ...as old as I AM. Class dismissed.
I subscribed to the channel and pressed the notification bell as a result of your great video. Al
I've melted snow and heated it up to do this at our old family cabin years ago. Great tip that works really well and is a lot safer than some of the things people try
Leah hi I wish you a happy chritmas AND new year 2023 thank you for spending your Time and advises with your fans de love you in México 🇲🇽 God bless you always...bye🤓
