I’m planning on making a really basic 300 gallon or so pond next year for my two babies and hoping to turn it into a rescue since I’ve been seeing a lot of people trying to sell their turtles locally because they’re too big for their tanks after a while. Your videos give me lots of good ideas and inspiration!

I have an old pre fab pond in the ground. It was here when I bought the house 22 years ago. I’ve never kept anything other than pond plants in it. This makes me want to get a couple of young turtles. South East Tennessee here and it does dip to freezing a few winter days. What would over winter here? Thanks for the awesome vids.
Try a native species (but a captive bred one of course) like a map turtle or species of painted! Perhaps adopting a red eared slider would be a good option as well. Just make sure it's well fenced in!

@@CaylorsReptilesAquatics There are usually lots of captive bred, returned Red eared sliders at rescues and some stores. Ask Bob and Ethan. They can probably point you to someone willing to rehome a native turtle. I hope you can find a couple! I'm anxious to get a couple myself, probably next year.

The love and passion you have put into your little slice of heaven there , it’s spectacular! I really enjoyed seeing the plants and how they’ve grown. The best part was seeing all the turtles. How you know each one and how they are related. Would love to see closer each and next generation ect . Love it all. Keep pursuing your passion.

your oasis construction and update video gave me a lot of inspiration! currently working on making my own 100-gallon mini pond in my backyard. Any plant recommendations for filtration, water health, aesthetics, etc?
Irisis, avoid things that get out of control like umbrella palm, parrots feather, hornwort, najas grass, and elephant ears!

That pond is beautiful, mine is only 1200 gallon and has 4 turtles. I’m surprised my water lilies are vigorous in growth with no damages.

Your pond is beautiful! I'm in the process of moving my 17 year old red-eared slider into an outdoor prefab pond. What plants would you suggest for nutrient export? I don't plan on using any kind of planting substrate aside from some smooth gravel. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Awesome pond with the turtles and koi🤗🤗🤗 It all looks perfect. Just wondering do you have an aerator hooked up to a diffuser for more oxygen for the turtles and the koi? And are there bullfrogs in the pond? Looks the the perfect home for koi, turtles, and frogs😂

So do you have to make Diamondback terrapins' water brackish? I would think not with the koi. I just always think of them as estuarine or delta sorta species. Or is that more like, an adaptation they possess in case of a random event (storms, flood, etc.), and they are ABLE to adjust to fluctuations of salinity in nature?
DTs are my favorite turtle, but I can't own them in my state D: (Maps are by second, and I can't own those either!)

Are all your Terrapins the same subspecies?
If not, are you concerned about them interbreeding? Are hybrids not a concern?
They are not. Ideally I'd prefer to separate, but I value the quality of life of my male ornates too much to remove them now. When I move and have separate ponds, then I will separate them!

What climate is your winter? What do you do when it gets cold out? I live in Buffalo ny and I wanted to keep turtles in my pond but I’m unsure of what to do in the winter l. The pond doesn’t freeze over due to a heater
Find species that can tolerate the cold like painted turtles or certain types of map turtles!
How many gallons is the mini pond?
I wish I had seen the episode about the turtle store review u had done but I ordered them before that. I got two and two at the beach and the two I bought from the turtle store website never grew any and both ended up dieing in a couple months

@@DanTheTurtleMan_ - I appreciate it... maybe I'll ask Garden State Tortoise... I was surprised when I saw where he, in NJ, was keeping species like Florida Box Turtles and other species typically found in warmer southern states outdoors year round.
Again, love your channel and your turtles--now we just need VA to allow some captive bred Northerns!

Hi HI! i'm in need of ALOT of help right now and google isn't really helping me rn so yeah I could really use some advice right now.
I've been seeing that my turtle's feces are a really dark green/black colour and I've now noticed these tiny red balls floating around in her water. I'm thinking its bladder stones but I'm really not sure and I'm so worried. I've had her for a little less than a year now and she has already had a respiratory problem I'm starting to think I'm doing a terrible job at this turtle parenting thing- I'm unable to make a vet appointment at the moment due to exams so what should I do in the mean time??? she's eating normally and hasn't had a change in behaviour or anything. She's still getting over the respiratory infection so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with that because I'm not seeing any yt videos anywhere on this and I'm just so scared. Can someone help please. Thank You

You have done an amazing job out there, I was advised not to have terrapin and koi together. Did you face any issues with that? What's your experience like?
0 issues BUT if the koi got sick and slowed down, the turtles would pick one off or so. Koi in good health will have no issues.
