Real quick, I ordered another Rib and after 2 tries I have two mugs just alike. Never have I been able to do this!!! Also thanks for the gifts you sent with my orders! Bear Creek Studio
Thank you so so much for sharing this tutorial and for creating the ribs! I just got the full set of them and am so excited to be back making ceramics!
Yay! That's wonderful Caitlin. Thanks for supporting our family business and I hope they work well for you. Please let me know how it goes and if you have any questions -mj
( 00:40 ) that tile spinner would, could, should be an accident waiting to happen. The potential problem is a high speed impact to the user's hand and fingers during throwing. I suggest to make them circular.
You'd think but I've never had an issue. Cool fact is that you don't actually have to have the tile spinner at all if you have a clay patty below the tile. My friend who started Black Oak Art showed me the trick. They always throw off clay paddies but with wooden squares instead of tiles. I found teh wood warped and the tiles gripped the clay better. Give it a try and see what you think. if you have some good clay below it, it is unlikely to move on you.
You are so right about us mere mortals. Simon and Dan are my heroes. But, I'm very glad that you are making videos. I've learned a great deal from you also. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I will be ordering your bat system very soon.
Hey thanks Rick! Yeah those guys are pretty awesome. I'm glad you're able to pick some stuff up from me. I don't think i'll be in the same category as those guys any time soon though :) Thanks! -mj
@@OutpostPottery You know you told me on the phone that you Attended one of his workshops and I mentioned it when I met him and he remembered you by name, and told me about the slab slicer he bought from you. :-)
Thanks! yes there are 6 different shapes it makes and we have those 6 shapes in 4-3/4" as well as 3-3/4" - so you can make a lot of sets out of these. I make the shapes from the ones I selling most online so i think they should be good for studio potters building their businesses.
Another helpful video. Quick ? do you think it's possible to cone too much. I like the coning for extra wedging but wondered if you can do it too much. Thanks
Hey Bob! Yes, i do think you can cone too much. I'm usually introducing more water as i cone, and i can get the clay too wet if i do it too much. But i'm usually going the other way where i need to make my clay a little wetter because i've let it sit too long and it's a little stiff. That's my experience. Thanks for watching and contributing!
Hey Ernest! For the 4-3/4" ribs here for a larger coffee mug I use 1lb 4oz. I have another size of these ribs at 3-3/4" which I usually use 1lb or 1lb 2oz. -mj
Very helpfull tool and well made.
Thanks for sharing, God Bless
Best thrower this side of the Mississippi! Love the videos boss!

Cheers
