With your wheel at max speed it will make it difficult for beginners to go trough the whole process you discribed .If the pot is not perfectly thrown at max speed it will become a blob :) Better slow down the wheel? Just sayn ;)
Hi Tom, thanks for watching and giving some pointers to other beginners. Personally I find if the wheel is too slow you will struggle using the profile tools but you’re right there is an in between each potter has to find for themselves. Some will prefer slower while others prefer it faster. I wouldn’t recommend profile tools to complete beginners, they are better as an intermediate tool as can be tricky!
I love rib A, but I do struggle with it, as I lose center when shaping and occasionally the mug pops off the bat while I'm shaping it. I must not be making my base wide enough.
Hi! If the mug is popping off you’re probably right that the base isn’t wide enough to start with as the rib cuts into the base a fair bit it will lose adhesion when you start the undercut. If it’s pulling off centre it might be because you aren’t pulling all the way up the wall before stopping a pull but its hard to diagnose without seeing you throw. Keep at it and I’m glad you’re loving them despite being a bit tricky!
It might look bad but it’s really just an indent, and a finger can’t get trapped in it, it sort of skims over the top. It also usually fills with clay so I don’t even notice it.

You know you can adjust the playback speed so then the voice would slowdown. It’s in the settings.

What is the name of the sharp triangle shaped tool from the beginning? Looked quite helpful.
Hi, this is actually a trimming tool but I use it when throwing. It's from Sacra
The openings around the inside throwing board look like you can break a finger!
