I just bought a gigantic sterling silver flatware set. A woman was living in her car. She inherited it. She knew that I buy silver and so she sold it to me. I paid her nearly 100% of spot. Spot is so grossly undervalued that it was a fantastic deal. I gave her paper. She gave me metal - SILVER! It’s a silver-buyers paradise out there right now. And the sellers are using the grossly undervalued spot price to determine their ask. I’m buying all the silver that I can get my hands on. I refine gold. I use sterling silver, that I buy at estate sales, to refine the scrap gold. I recover the silver from that, melt into shot, and run it through my silver cell. The cell converts the impure silver (about 980 parts per thousand silver) to high purity four nines fine (9999 parts per ten thousand) pure elemental silver metal. The impure silver is added to the anode basket. The anode basket is suspended in the silver nitrate electrolyte. I pass an electric current through the impure silver. The silver dissolves, passes through the Dacron filter, travels through the silver nitrate electrolyte, and deposits on the stainless steel bowl (the cathode). The bowl is connected to the negative pole of the power supply. The process only deposits pure silver on the cathode. So I’m refining the impure silver, into high purity silver. When it’s full, I harvest the pure silver crystal, put it away, and forget about it. Then I repeat the whole thing again.

'The vessel with the pestle has the pellet with the poison and the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true' . The pole with the hole just put this in my mind. I'm 62, from the UK and love the Danny Kaye films, having been infected by mad Dad mugging to a 78rpm shellac disc of 'Manic Depressive presents... "Hello Fresno, goodbye" ...' Which to my pre-teen brain was pure cat-nip. It is probably no surprise that he also grabbed me with Eric & Ernie aka Morecambe & Wise, and the brilliant wordplay of Ronnie Barker in 'The Two Ronnies'.

@xmachine7003 My first harvest was 680g, about 21ozt. I ran the cell for 10 days.
I ran the second batch for 7 days at a slightly lower voltage, yet I depleted my silver shot supply. The second batch yield was far less at 396g.
I'm now recovering silver from filters and wash solutions, procuring more sterling and scrap, and doing basic cleanup in preparation to run again.

Good evening Sreetips. I have another idea that I think will minimizing your washing technique. Do you still have that monster Buchner Funnel? Dump in your silver and run a gallon of hot water through it and call it a day. You could reheat that same rinse wash water and rinse the second batch. Then heat a some fresh distilled water for the final rinse. You could also use that filtered rinse water for your next batch of making silver nitrate. Just a thought in reducing 4+ gallons of distilled water into perhaps a gallon and a half ish or so. Fun stuff bud.

the corrosion on the wire that's welded onto the silver bar may be due to a salt forming from the solution which migrates as time passes which then eats the wire. Same problem with road grit salt : you'd surprised how much salt moves over time with temperature and humidity level changes and brine mists. It's a big problem with electronics in road gritters, every electronic bits need to be protected in a watertight container to be sure that salt won't get to it. I suggest welding the wire on the side of the bar and place it vertically to the basket in order to keep the wire further away from the point of contact and at delay the wire's corrosion due to salt migration.

It's very interesting the different characteristic of each silver cell. Silver cell #1 seems to pack the silver more densely than Silver cell #2.
And just to be clear, I'm not saying that the silver produced by #1 would actually be denser because elemental silver is elemental silver. It just seems like #2 is almost more softly packed. Like a fresh snow pack vs more icy harder snow pack. I hope that makes sense.

Great silver recovery video. Upgrade to 8AWG low oxygen content high quality copper wire for lowest power loss in your silver cells. They will last longer than the 10 gauge and less work for you. Have you tried tining the exposed copper conductors for longevity against electrolytic corrosion at the silver electrode(s)? Silver solder comes to mind.

Another awesome video and great haul!!!! This has probably been asked in the past but, do you ever use pure silver to inquart gold, and if you have, does it help to pureify the gold easier with less contamination?

He made a video inquarting using the crystals these cells create.

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  3 місяці тому

No, it’s best to use sterling silver for inquartation. Using silver crystal would be a step in the wrong direction because it’s already been through the silver cell.

Wow!! A pile of silver! The difference in crystals is very interesting. Any thoughts on that? Difference between fresh and reused solution, perhaps?? Great video!

There are many factors that determine crystals size and shape. It’s nearly impossible to duplicate from one run to the next.

One question for you Sreetips. You cement out the copper from your waste solutions in a bucket with iron. How often do you go and reclaim the copper from that waste bucket?

Something is different with the current from the HP power supply, the crystals are more wool-like and stick together quite different to the crystals from the other cell. 🤔. Great yield, thanks for sharing! 💪

Your valuation is based on paper traded futures contracts that are even more manipulated than the USD. Silver is worth far more than what you calculated. Money is imaginary, silver is real. The goal is to hold silver and only convert it to dollars when needed.

Insulate the wire to the silver bar. When washing silver, try the method with a strainer and filter, or a large and dense colander, so you do not consume so much water, try pouring impure silver into the bar and adding it to the filter it consumes faster and does not clog the filter

Have you considered putting some insulating compound - maybe the plasti-dip rubber - on the lower end of the wire to prevent or at least limit the corrosion?
