17:22 lovely shot of the old Sheridan Stand (1909-1985) that stood at the Paddington End of the SCG. Interesting fact with this stand was it was demolished on March 20, 1985 during a Sheffield Shield match, play was halted during a session to allow the demolition crew to knock it down, dust, metal and bricks went everywhere. The lovely green roof draped over the concourse in front of it like a blanket as play resumed! The gap next to it was the old Brewongle Stand (1881-1977) to the right of it, named after the tea rooms beneath it, was demolished in 1977 and was eventually replaced with the current Brewongle Stand in 1980.
I remember this series and that the Australian cricket fans supported the Bobby Simpson led team over those who signed up with Kerry Packer. I was privileged to see this Aussie team at Bourda vs Guyana and West Indies at Bourda. We saw Jeff Thompson for the first time in the WI. What a treat!

Gavaskar had a peculiar pattern of scoring in the series. He failed in the first innings and scored a hundred in the second innings. Yes , there are no videos available of this series. This is the first one I ever saw on UA-cam.

Great!!! I was in class 9 in those early 1978 days and was mad for the running commentary on All India Radio at 5 in the cold winter mornings of Delhi. I remember how I felt when India defeated the Kangaroos in this match by an innings and perhaps 3 or 4 runs. Next morning, if I remember correctly, both Sunil and Dilip Vengsarkar departed soon after resumption. Vishy, still under , came out to bat and Thommo did not make it easy. He was bowling at speeds far in excess of 90 mph ! And the delightful stroke play of GRV , his cuts, square drives and flicks were a treat for all assembled. Wow. I was at the ground that day. Toohey running himself out was so disappointing. Sergeant took forever to score that four and then played an awful shot. Hughes and Mann easily done by Bedi. Great cricket but really only a good Sheffield Shield side playing for Australia. They still won series 3-2. Watching Bedi and Chandra that series was some of the most enjoyable cricket I have seen.
Start of a fresh innings at the SCG. (23:20) Green outfield. Three slips, a gully, a silly point and a short leg. Thommo running in and Sunil Gavaskar taking strike. A sight for sore eyes.
Remember watching this series in "Sunil Gavaskar Presents" in Doordarshan in late 1980s if I remember correctly. Request Jai Jalagally to upload all the five tests. It'll be a treat to watch
I remember listening to radio AIR and at times would tune to radio australia for good commentary. India won at Sydney and Melbourne . It was 2 all and the final test at adelaide was won by Australia. Very nice n high-quality vedio.Would be thankful if upload the Brisbane tied match. You can have from British Pathe or BBC who were have sole right to shoot the match.
They should have played Brijesh Patel. It was a slow track. Patel plays spin bowling brilliantly. Bad luck for Brijesh. He was dropped after first 2test matches. That was his last your in Test Cricket. Later he played domestic cricket till 1988..
Jai Galagali sir where are you now a days since long time you haven't uploaded any uploads still awaiting for my request of Pak tour Of india 1979 many Regards Waseem Ashraf a cricket lover from Lahore Pakistan
Can you upload some videos with indian tv commentators during 80s. If poosible can u upload radio commentry by indians like shushil doshi, anant settlebad, suresh sariya, narottam puri, pushpen sarkar, ajay bose?
Great share !! Although Australian side was little down & playing sans their impactful cricket faces due to a parallel league cricket crisis that plagued their country during this series , reminding of last series India played in Australia , yet they fought hard under the astute leadership of 41-year- old Bob Simpson who was called back from retirement especially to guide Australian team & eventually showed them the success, unlike what happened in the last tour..
Simpson's comeback was remarkable - I think I'm right in saying he hadn't played first class (Sheffield Shield) cricket for several before he was recalled as Test captain. I believe he stepped straight from grade cricket into a test match. He was a success both as batsman and captain in this series.
Yes, he replies with his golden arm, he, vishy, prasanna, kirmani were all gentlemen cricketers not like the few or many present cricketers who shouts, uses foul language and shows fingers at the batsman. Thanks Jai sir again for your priceless, amazing love to upload this video.DREAMS COME TRUE
The commentators made a horrible mess of this at 12.05. The catch was not misjudged it was perfectly caught! The fielder who had taken this great catch, was wrongly called Bhagwat Subramanya Chandrasekhar! They then realise it is not him, they then believe Mohinder Amarnath has caught the ball, when in fact, Karsan Devjibhai Ghavri had taken the catch. How pathetic!
best part of the series is Gavaskar scored 4 centuries I think...Vishwanth no century..but Vishwanath's total runs of the series is more than Gavaskar,,, without a century

Dear if there is available recording of pak aus series of 1978-79 when sarfaraz took 9 wickets in an inning bcoz its available in very blurred condition, so if available in your archives kindly upload
special thanks

early morning chai, early morning commentary :):)
Great stuff! Thanks so much. Do you have any of the India/West Indies test series from about 1980-1990? If not, do you know on what site.channel I may find them?
Could you pls add video of 1st days highlights of 1st Test at Brisbane 1980-81 India vs Australia. Thanks
Peter toohey. Circumstances prevented him from being mentioned amongst the greatest batsmen.
Can you upload some videos with indian tv commentators during 80s. If poosible can u upload radio commentry by indians like shushil doshi, anant settlebad, suresh sariya, narottam puri, pushpen sarkar, ajay bose?
It was great to see Chetan chauhan with whom Sunil Gavaskar had some good opening partnerships...
Jairaj:
What happened to your “Tippani” in the beginning? I also used to like the song from that particular year you used to choose.....
I think these high quality videos can do without my intro 😊
The intro tune is from Gharonda
Day 2 will have a more popular song
Jairaj: Thanks for pointing out that the tune is from Gharaonda...
Great pl download the 5 th decider test at Adelaide that was a test where young vengsarkar played well with mohinder and vishy
13:42 Interesting comments about how Chandra expresses his emotions!
I wish we had Simmons Aussies in the west Indies with thohey, wood, yallop, and thommo thanking on the mighty west Indies then the reduced indies
Amarnath as an all rounder was overshadowed by Kapil
India lost 3 close matches, won 2 thumpingly. This was a series that they could and should have won 5-0
best part of the series is Gavaskar scored 4 centuries I think...Vishwanth no century..but Vishwanath's total runs of the series is more than Gavaskar,,, without a century
Gavaskar scored 3 centuries
Considers no backlift
cosier paying the penalty for not doing up his shirt properly
This was the worst Australian team of all time. No one other than Kim Hughes was to to test standard.
There was Geoff Thomson and Craig Sarjeant
So one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time was not up to Test standard?
Boler karsan ghavari rajkot
Australia won the series by 3-2
