- The $8.2 million sale for the American Pharoah filly out of Leslie's Lady marks the highest price for a filly in the history of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Beautiful filly! Muscles on her muscles, great walk, great energy & eye. This horse wants to be in training.
@ipmala you clearly don't know anything about horses then lmao, she has great muscle on her legs.
She was just heavy for the sale. Buyers like “bloom”. She’ll be lean in training; but with her pedigree, I wonder if she’s ever going to the track, her dam is a Blue Hen and I wonder if they’re going to race her at all. She looks like Beholder, I hope she runs!
ipmala lol yeah and see what happens if you get kicked by a thoroughbred with one of those skinny legs. The horse wouldn’t break one of her legs doing so. You’d go flying. Those legs are MUCH stronger than they appear.
ipmala I’ve seen racehorses with Smaller legs than hers and they never broke a leg also her legs are way bigger in person
She’s not a fine boned thoroughbred. She’s ample everywhere, and she has plenty of bone.
Rest in peace, beautiful girl. :(
What a tragedy. So sad.

Stop hating. People have their money they buy what they want for any price and right or wrong ain't for us to judge. Good luck guys hope she is worth every last cent. One of her babies may sell for $10,000,000 one of these says
Not hating but is dumb to spend that much. Even if she won the derby ( which filly's don't typicly run) she would still need to earn 5 Mill to break even!!!!!! How or why woy u do that unless u just thought money grow on trees
@@chrisdukefields9868 The lady that bought her also has several high profile ex-race fillies (Harve de Grace, Songbird) as part of her breeding broodmares. Unfortunately, this filly had a training accident and was euthanized. Highly likely that she was insured so the owner isn't out all that much.
@@chrisdukefields9868 You’re forgetting the brood mare potential.
Mare’s foals sell well and can earn millions. A colt that’s half of AP’s talent and better in the breeding shed would pay the price back a hundred fold.
@@SaraNightfire1 yea but your forgetting she's dead. Horse died without making a nickel
@@MikeSmith-cn6ub I am talking in general. Buying a racehorse in any case is a gamble. You can end up with a Seattle Slew or a Green Monkey. But if you get a gem, even in millions, you’ll get your investment back and more.
Man O’ War sold for $5,000. In his first few races he earned triple what he was sold for. Green Monkey sold for a record sale price and never raised a hoof.
From a racing fan's perspective only (fifty years following racing and have been lucky to see some of the greats in racing run) she is well balanced, great hip, musculature abounding, lovely head, her neck I think is longer than Pharoah's and definitely as they said with Beholders muzzle. But when she turned to look out at the crowd's of bidders it took me back to 2015 because she shows not only a physical resemblance to Pharoah but his sweet personality which he seems to be throwing in a lot of his progeny. Will she be another Beholder? Maybe or she might be a bust in racing but, even then, her bloodlines would make her a valuable broodmare. I can't wait to see her run.
"Sweet?" She kept trying to bother the handler. Weren't you watching? If he had let her, she would have nipped him constantly.
@@musiclover148 naw. She was looking for handout. She was nervous.
Do not understand why his showmanship did not do her justice. I think he did thought the bidding done before really started.
May have gleaned more with more attentiveness to her set up. She was trying to follow him but he gave her no cues her hooves and lower body all over the place.
She is a little fine in the lower leg for the bulk on top looks like Pharaoh's legs, neck seems set little lower in front. Lady you really have nice ass. Expecting competition to see a lot of it.
Me too!
You said it all, PatriciaL Ledoux. She was so nervous, poor thing. American Pharoah stamps his get.
Pharoah always struck me as a small horse, sounds silly but I think plain bays and browns look smaller than splashy chestnuts like Chrome.
I love her attitude whenever the handler try’s to square her up! A little ear pinning then right back to her happy face!
i just got out bid darn it
Wow. Big money but she is so beautiful. I think she looks like a dream. Cant wait to hear about this one.
After working in the business from the time I was 14 on, I would never spend that kind of money on an unproven filly or colt. That's just nuts. On the other hand, Lloyds of London will sell you insurance.
@@wizpopr doesnt matter about her racing ability, her pedigree alone makes her an extremely valuable broodmare.
She won’t race... they’ll keep her as a broodmare
She was an absolutely lovely filly with the pedigree to match. Named American Joy she broke down during morning track work & had to be euthanized. An unfulfilled future with a tragic ending for all concerned....:(
What did they expect. Beholder Into Mischief Mendelssohn and a Triple Crown dad, I'm surprised she wasn't sold for 10 million. Looking forward to see her race.
I think she died in training accident

Yea nice and dead 9 million and didn't run one race and is dead.
Looks like American Pharaoh going to be GREAT on the track & GREAT as a sire

Harpal Chauhan doesnt matter if she ever races. That pedigree alone is enough to justify what she brought.
Wow she looks like her Daddy.💜💜🐎🐎
Damn I just got outbid at 6.5 Million.
This is too difficult to watch, knowing how tragically short her life was.
8.2 million? she'd have to win every classic there is to bring that back.
She'll earn that back easily when she's bred.
@horselover Mares in the wild foal every year or two, their bodies are perfectly designed to handle it.
@horselover okay you clearly have no idea what you're talking about so I'm not even gonna bother, read up on horse reproduction though so you can know what you're talking about before typing it :)
@horselover but wild mares and domestic mares BOTH go into heat 5-14 days after giving birth, they were designed to reproduce as much as possible.
Mandy Pope, her buyer, has spent the last decade building the most ridiculously potent broodmare band in the world. It isn't about what she earns on the track, it's about her daughters, her son's, and granddaughters and grandson's spilling back into her program. The great Mare Toussuad, dam of Empire Maker and three other grade one horses was worth in excess of 100 million dollars in her prime. This mare, if capable, could be worth tens of millions to Pope's future program.
Leslie’s Lady never misses, Blue Hen mare. Saw Mendelssohn at Coolmore last June. Pharoah too. This filly looks special. Good luck to her. Mandy Pope has more money than God.
Good luck to her!

very expansive but she is super lady for future she is glaxy quality i want this lady
Looks like a quarter horse in hindquarters
There is a VERY close relationship between the two breeds, for VERY good reason, as we both know. I saw that as well. Good eye.
For that price I hope Mandy races her and doesn’t just breed her. Regardless she’s in the best hands with Mandy!
Same, she'll have a great home with Mandy but yeah, she's not the best at actually racing the horses she buys
Only Mandy can outbid Sheik Mo.
Been waiting, this filly hasn’t done a single breeze yet 😢
@@HannaBostic she won’t. Whisper Creek rarely races fillies, and with her breeding they don’t have to. In another year or so, we’ll probably hear she’s been bred.
@@emmaleahconnely5367 Update, I’m grooming for Pletcher and she’s here also 😁 She’s already 3 at this point so who knows what all she’ll do but she’s up here working!
Is it true that all current race horses are bred from a single horse or perhaps a couple of horses?
Originally the thoroughbred breed was descended from 3 horses the Darley Arabian, Godolphin Arabian, and Byerly Turk. The Darley Arabian line is the most prevalent.
@@emmaleahconnely5367 very interesting. Thanks for the reply
Insha allah i buy one 🐎
Cordell, groom for Runhappy ( Gallery Racing) handling her, this makes me happy.

Beautiful filly but she'll have to win big for that price
if she wins the Pegasus, that would get all the buyers money back in one race. Of course, she'll have to win a lots of filly races before she can get to the male dominated races like the derby & triple crown races and later the Breeders cup and pegasus AND WHY DIDN'T THEY SAY WHO BOUGHT THIS EXPENSIVE FILLY
Even if she is a dud as far as racing, her pedigree alone, will either sell her as a brood mare or sell her foals for outrageous prices as weanlings or yearlings depending on what stallion is used
She will more than return her selling fee
@@JomoDaMusicMan It's not public info.

Breeding baby, breeding...this Filly may race a couple of years...but lorry! What her foal can bring!!!
Not necessarily. Just because they have a great sire and a great dam doesn't mean they can or will run. Take a look at Secretariats foals. Many stakes winners, but only one Derby winner. Sometimes, it's just luck. Case in point. Seabiscuit
@@wizpopr A stallion's true impact may not be known until at least two generations have passed. Secretariat's offspring may not have won spectacularly in the first generation, but his daughters went on to be great broodmares, passing his large heart genes along to their foals.

Hope she stays this pretty, with her lines, I doubt she'll get too coarse as she ages.
If she has the AP mind, she will be easy to train- but honestly for 8 million would you risk it?
Julie Berlier If I was in that position, no, I would go 3m max but there was great interest in this filly so the bidding was fierce.
Julie Berlier nope nay never
8 mil is pocket change to Mandy Pope. When she decides she wants a horse, she buys it.
Noooooo. There is no upside. Even if the bitch won derby she would have to make 5 more milk just to break even! The owner got what she deserved I hate to say. Greed will get u in last place humbled
They forgot to look at her feet with feet like that she was destined to break down....

American Joy
For 2 year's enjoyment ask tod pletcher😎
good sale but I wonder if the guy going up by 3's got tired of his competition getting back in for 2, that's 100,000.00 less. That happened all the way from 5 million to 8. Money has value to everyone eventually, not?
Pope Royale would be a nice name.
Wow
Seen this year ( 2021), but it's was the wrong year. It was from 2019.
One person can pay $8 million for a horse, while the places in Lexington that help with food and rent are running low on donations. I wish I had that kind of money to blow
So sad. She broke a Sesamoid and fell breaking her neck. During training at Saratoga just recently. They named her America's Joy. Mandy had to just start screaming and crying. So much potential lost.
Nobody ever looks at their feet with the type of feet she had under slot heel or no heel at all she was destined to break a sesamoid or blow a suspensory or bow that's an awful lot of money not to look at their feet when you're buying them.... but the trainer should have caught on to that too....
She's cute for $8.2 mil (LOL!)
Used for just breeding with exceptional stallions..
Wow Beautifful horse
How good will this horse be with that bloodline.
Who knows...
She will probably has most value of that $8million sending foals back to this same sale in 5/7 years time
If she flops as a runner she will still be valuable as a broodmare as she's out of Leslie's Lady and a half to Into Mischief and Beholder. Bred to a fashionable stallion her foals will bring multi millions at the sales.
I have seen many top bred animals that turned out to be duds.
RIP xx

I think she died😢😢😢😢
In everything in life, it is all about name and bloodline. Ever since creation..!!
Sadly we’ll never know what could have been. She died today. Broke a leg than injured her neck when she fell.
I groom for Todd and word was going around that she had died of a cardiac event, that’s how quick it was. It was a bad game of telephone obviously because we now know what happened, but it was very quick and tragic. The rider, shockingly, is okay. We thought broken arm at first but he was thoroughly checked over at the hospital and he is okay.
@@HannaBostic Glad the rider is okay, such a heartbreaking end to a beautiful filly. Read an article where Todd said by the time he reached her at the track after the fall she was dead, at least she didn't suffer. :(
@@OfficialMuffiin Right, and when they’re all breezing for a set he goes and watches at the rail. So we’re talking as soon as traffic wasn’t coming he went onto the track, so it had to have been near immediate
you might want to prep Mr Pletcher on feet because her feet were not exactly in a form to keep her sound as big as she was, and I worked 27 years at the sales for the biggest outfit there and maybe out of all those years I've seen six people pick up a foot and look at it before they bought the horse....Jack Van Berg was an expert on that
