Great video! I only want to add that the MacBook Air M1 is also the first true laptop. Before your eyes get crossed, what I mean by that is that this laptop has no cooling vents and it truly doesn’t need them. No more worries about blocking vents when it’s on your lap and you don’t need to put it on a flat surface even when you know you’re going to be pushing the processor. After using this device for about eight months I agree with everything thing else mentioned in this video.

I've been interested in the Mac Mini M1 since it came out. The last Apple computer I had was the Apple IIe. :) I've had several iPads too. I bought the original one in 2010 and it really blew me away.
I got a modest windfall, and Amazon had $99 off on the 8/256 model, so I bit. I jjust do mostly browser stuff and a little HTML.
I knew I could operate it as I've played around with Linux distros now and again. I set this up in my kitchen, leaving the PC in the office. After having it a few days, I decided to turn it on and eventually make the transision. It's going well and it is likely in a week or so, I'll move the PC to the other desk and put this one in.
I bought a hub with ssd port and a 1tb ssd but haven't used them yet. I bought a keyboard meant for a Mac and a UPS.

So far, so good. I subscribed to your channel since the M1 was introduced. Thanks.

Hey man, love your video's and better yet I love the way you deliver information. I purchased a MacBook Air M1 about 5 weeks ago that replaced my 2015 MacBook Pro. Overall I happy with it but I do have some issues, it feels to me like Apple did little user level testing before they released the laptop. Here are some examples - The Plex client crashed upon launch each and every time, could be a rosetta issue. Whenever I try to bookmark a UA-cam page Safari crashes and this has been highly documented on the internet. I wanted to change the crappy wallpaper provided so I searched for a high res image I liked, once I found it I opened it full res and copied it, choose to set as background and although it did show up as my background there were small bits of the webpage imbedded in the image, I clicked on one of these bits and it was editable with the keyboard. Moving tabs around in Safari also causes it to crash. Just wondered if you have noticed anything like this.

as someone who has *struggled* with windows laptop - be it gaming or running everyday tasks (personal and work), my laptop's' always had heating issues and fan sounds; keyboard and track pad gets the most heavy usage and by the end of 4 to 5 years, they wither stop working w/o hiccups or the keys become to loose to work (my current HO laptop's keys already feel kinda loose) I've been looking into the M1 series macbooks especially the Air because i'm someone who prioritizes smooth daily laptop-work over recreational gaming, and the chipset sounds like it'll do enough. Yes Gary you are correct, the M1 Macs are perfect computers but here's the thing, when the next generation of these things comes out you will forget all about these and start singing the praises of the new stuff and tell us to abandon what we just bought and buy them instead. It's a never ending battle. I just want my Macs to last and be great for 5 to 7 years like my 2013 Mac mini. I have a Pro and a Mini a 2020 iPad 12.9 Pro, 2 Apple 4K's and the only thing I do upgrade most every year is my Pro Max. It kind of seems like the switch to Apple Silicon has made the iPad obsolete for a lot of users. If you're an artist the iPad still has a great use case, but it's primary advantages over Apple laptops (like battery life and performance) have disappeared.

So Im a fairly heavy computer user. I use Adobe CC, MS Office, heavy emails, starting on some video editing. With COVID, this was available. I got it and it does everything quickly and silently. You just cannot compare a fully optimized ARM environment to how we think with Windows. I use my MacBook Air on a 32" widescreen display for work. Doesn't skip a beat. Im thoroughly impressed. I love it for taking with me on the road as it can charge with a DC usb-c charger. Just a really amazing machine. Best Buy had it on sale for $100 less than MSRP too.On the road, I can put my iPad Pro next to it and with sidecar dual monitors. Its a great machine for real world use.

I ordered the MacBook Air M1 with 16gb RAM last night. Something I didn't see ANY of in videos reviewing these new MacBooks was a comparison between the new MacBook Pro with 16gb RAM and the Air M1 with 16gb. How do they stack up to each other? Finding the 16gb version wasn't hard on Amazon and I got the 25g gb storage version that I'm going to couple with an external SSD. This is soooooo much cheaper than getting a kitted out Pro for tons more money.

My only regret buying the m1 air with 500gb drive was not getting 16 gigs of ram. Doing pro work on it shows how little 8gig ram is. It’s fine for home use. Buggy for pro work. I want to blame the ram but it can also be lack of optimized apps and buggy network performance. Problems I do not run across on the intel models that I keep having to turn to when the air bugs pop up.

I would agree with you. Before buying the M1 MacBook Air I was using the base model Surface Laptop 3 which compared to the MBA only had 128GB of storage. Compared to the base model MBA, the Surface Laptop 3 always felt a little sluggish. The Surface Laptop 3 fan would always kick on even if I was just doing work through the browser. The typing experience was a little better on the Surface Laptop 3, but due to the build materials, I experience flex while typing which on the MBA with its aluminum build has zero flex while typing.
The biggest benefit to the MBA over the Surface Laptop 3, is I feel there is less to worry about with an Apple product over a PC. This is due to the snappiness of the device, more apps to help with ram management and storage cleaning; at least there are more that I am familiar with. Lastly the ecosystem, I feel that Apple has the better ecosystem, however, yes you have more options in creating your ecosystem with a PC but that is named using an Android device and for me, I much prefer the iPhone because it feels more like a productivity tool than Android.
    Great video as always.
