    You are 100 percent correct. plastic welding would be the best, but I had one in the ground for a while with a thick bead of silicone and it worked pretty good. These caps alone will not keep moisture out. Thank You for pointing that out.

    Excellent. Although the components are not watertight they can be improved with just a little silicone. As long as it is above the water table I'd say this is a pretty good start for a largely waterproofed cache. I'd put a couple tarps above it before burying it to make sure water runs off.

    After reading some of the comments below, what about burying it upright, with the cap above ground? Then surround it with thick bushes, and filling it with non-perishables, like toilet paper and toiletries? You could definitely hide it. I pulled a thick mess of bushes out of my front yard, when I moved here. There was a giant rock underneath, that measured 5' x 3' by about 2' tall! You couldn't tell it was there, until we started ripping out the bushes!

    that is underground field drainage tile. The tile in the video is a dual walled version. The most common is single walled. They are intended to accept ground water and allow it to run off. The barbed pressed on connections are definitely not water or air tight. They do make field tile tape that is basically triple wide electrical tape with glue that will stay stuck underwater and when frozen. When field tile is installed it comes in thousand foot rolls. They roll it up on short sections

    I have some in of those different material but same purpose. You can hide a lot of things in those. Maybe i will do a video on how I make mine and what can fit in them. Thanks for sharing bro, excellent video!!!!!

    The military probably does not have anything more than a "box" type metal detector. City and other local government agencies will use box detectors to locate pipes, etc. down several feet. My detectors can get a hit on a pull tab 2 or more feet down. You would probably be better off to bury the container in a vertical position if only to create less length to be picked up in a sweep. If it was me, I would look to place the container in a place where there is tons of metal. Junkyards, etc.

    everybody wants to criticize this guy because they think his idea won't work.well, IMO, at least he is trying, and when the shit does hit the fan, at least he will have something,as I'm sure this will not be his only cache'. as for an ar-15 or m-15 , hell, those things can sit in the rain for a year, then if u can get the action to open( perhaps with a slight kick) it will fire! I prefer to keep a gun well oiled, but something is better than nothing.
    one idea though. take one of those meat vaccuum sealers ,( used to store meat in a freezer), put your gun in it and vaccuum seal it after oiling it well. put two layers of vaccuum seal plastic over your gun, ammo, n food, n you should be good to go using this type container, or whatever container you can get your hands on.
    folks, the idea here is to at least make an effort!!!
    right on to the person who made this video.

      When people share their idea with the public, and invite comment, I assume they are looking for feedback. It is what smart people do. No matter how good you think your idea is, it's wise to check it against the experience and knowledge of others. Of course, expect a few trolls in the mix. It comes with the territory.

  • @ImRamro

    @Tradekraft Propane torch attached to a bottle was my 1st option. the second would be to use a box cutter on the silicone. It would be a pain in the butt to cut through the plastic weld, but the silicone should pry away or just cut right out.

    I have one in the ground now, and plan on making a video in a week or so to show the way I seal them up.

    @ImRamro those would be great for food storage but for a single weapon lets just say like my 12 ga or sks i think id use the thick water main line pvc pipe w/ a glued on solid cap on one end rtv sealed as a fail safe and a rtv sealed screw on cap on the other that way its got to solid sealed caps and hey w/ a bit of rigging it could be made into a make shift tube pack or used for water storage as well

    I am a roofer, but not a regular roofer. We use a product called Sarnafil to heat weld buildings that are literally under the ground and it is pvc, and I'm pretty sure that's how the factory seal was done. It's not that difficult, it just takes a little practice with some scraps to learn how to do it. It is really expensive though, so practice with scraps and check to see if it leaks before you really use it.

  • @elireloaded

    I was thinking of putting mine in a tube like this. Then the bagging the equipment in a large vacuum bag like the "as seen on tv" bags that are made to store pillows and stuff. Those are relatively cheap now days and might be good as an extra precaution. So you would have storage container, absorber, vacuum bag, absorber and extra oil if you are storing guns.

  • @ImRamro
    @ImRamro  13 років тому

    @bnsd70mac1 I set them in the ground on their side and place everything in a long pillow case. If I want all the contents I can just pop the top and pull the pillow case out. This long tube is meant for long items and the food storage ones are roughly 2 feet deep and 2 feet wide, like a short keg. Thank you for watching....P.S.
    I did drop items inside the long ones and had to change things up. lol

  • @ImRamro
    @ImRamro  11 років тому

    A root cellar is a great ideal for one usage.
    I can get huge ones, but would have a problem transporting it home, lol.
    Right now I have a few that are barrel size that I keep my scrap welding metal in too.

    I have a good friend that has given me a few. A metal detector won't pick them up, but if you put something metal inside the military style detectors that sweep mines would probably pick it up. The law enforcement stuff we use locally would not detect it, but the military surely has some kinda super gadget.

    if you did cap the pipe just to see how well your m4 would be stored
    have you checked on it over time to test the weld and to make sure items stored inside are safe i have heard many people trying similar ideals and many times the seal fails

    @ImRamro yeah it happens that i do heavy construction working on a multi bridge project right now. HDPE plastic is mighty tuff and food safe as long as the food is stored in its own container with in the pipe

  • @ImRamro

    These "ARE" my little ones, lol.
    My buddy can make them from the size of a soda can to ones you can walk inside. You have a great suggestion there, you can never have too many cachets.

  • @ImRamro
    @ImRamro  11 років тому

    Honestly, I only have one AR, so that is not sealed up.
    I have buried some other items and it is too early to tell, but the ones I used P.V.C glue on worked.
    I figured silicone would be the easiest, but the glue used for sprinklers is excellent.
    The only problem is that the container top needs to be destroyed when cutting it open.

  • @ImRamro
    @ImRamro  12 років тому

    Silica packs against the item, then soak butcher paper in gun oil, then tape wax paper over the item before sealing in a plastic bag. This would be for super long term storage. Wax paper, oiled butcher paper and tape with a silica pack should be enough to get by for a year as long as the container is sealed air tight.

  • @ImRamro
    @ImRamro  13 років тому

    @bigjohn20081983 Yes, I want to put one in the ground to test it and I was thinking of P.V.C glue. The RTV would be a lot easier to remove. Thanks for the tip.

    Store upright and deep, this will lessen the profile but the tube might have a tendency to crush so be sure there is extra room.

  • @Sig220Euro
    @Sig220Euro 11 років тому

    Think after u pound the cap on I'd run a dead of silicone caulk around it to be sure it's water tight which is more important than airtight when your burying it.
    Large PVC pipes also work well and you can cement the a cap on one end and a big cleanout cap on the other. Though I'd still seal the thread end with silicone.
    Nice job!

    I don't know why people talk about metal detectors. No matter what you bury them in the metal contents are what they will find. I don't see any value in burying it in your yard. If you don't plan to bug out why would you make it difficult to access your arms, unless this is intended as a back up. I'm not a fan of staying at home and defending your food, so I'm clearly biased toward this idea. If used for a remote stash, to be retrieved during a bug out, I think this might be problematic as you said you'll need a crowbar to get it open. Also, there are more practical solutions for long-term food storage, inside your home.

    I thought that corrugated tube was water permiable after long term. I used 6inch pvc (sch80) with a connector cap and put a threaded cap on it. Stick the end out of the ground for easy access and it looks just like a sewer clean out. Right next to the house. Bagged the shotgun in a custom made mylar bag with o2 absorbers. If you ran a tank over that it would collapse. Heavy equipment operators always avoid the septic system if they can.

    Has to be further than 6" or it'll crush under a wheeled vehicle, I crushed a steel corrugated drain with my empty dump truck, I had to go back, jack, and brace it to hold until the road bed was finished, I worked in excavation, so I've installed drains.

    There is no easy way for the ones that I have stored. If you wanted to get to them quickly the only way would be to build a wooden box and just cover it with top soil.Then you could just pry the top off and grab your gear. If I wanted to get something quickly the best and cheapest way is ammo cans. They are water tight and can be painted to match the surroundings or buried just under the soil. Old ammo cans are cheap and you can store them in bushes or tied up in trees.

    I mean... its Polypropylene. Im pretty sure plastic isnt detectable by a metal detector. But honestly, if you are worried about hiding something from police/military... If they thought you had something and used a metal detector and didnt find something... They would use ground penetrating radar and find it that way. You cant really hide things from ground penetrating radar easily. Good luck on your endeavors.

    just out of curiosity, once you seal it, how do you plan to open it, short of cutting it open with a saw? (not being a hater, I actually want to know) I ask because if your getting at the cache, it's probably urgently needed, and this looks like it will take forever to dig out and cut open.

    I am pretty sure that if you store metal items they can be found by the military, but local law enforcement or civilians will have a much tougher time.
    Please don't take this the wrong way, but the middle east is proof that civilians will hide weapons and I.E.D'S that the military and police still can't find with today's technology.

    How can people say this isn't water and air tight when you have both ends melted on?? I have yet to find any other ideas for how to bury an AR15 underground. If you know of anything please let me know. This seems like the best option if you need something a little bugger than a PVC pipe. The other option is some kind of water tank but that's a little too big in my opinion.

    Great for long term storage, but why put your AR in there, it would be to difficult to get in an emergency.

      Incase you aint noticed they are are taking our guns 1 by 1. Person by person... Hell just a couple days ago they passed a law in the omnibus bill called the nics denial notification act.. from year to year the nics background check denials are 70-90 % false.. meaning that 3/4 to almost all denials are erroneous. Now thanks to our oppressive govt, every single time a denial is issued now this law requires a criminal investigation to be launched into that person within 24 hours. Even though therw is a 90% chance that the denial was wrong on their part to begin with.. this opens the door to gun confiscation due to you " failing" a background check. Its time to wake up my friend.. ive passed background checks my whole life. Me and my brother but last year he found a nice used sig at a local pawn shop and bought it.. they delayed him so we left and they called us an hour or so later to come get the gun.. when we came back he seen a old lever action 22 rifle and decided to buy it. he was denied.. my brother both passed and failed a background check on the same day. Due to this new law , he now would have an fed banging on his door, likley wanting to seize his guns untill it could be determined he wasnt prohibited..

      What kind of irrigation pipe is that exactly? The irrigation pipe companies in my area don't use such sizes for irrigation. Only drainage. Can you give me a name of a company, not the one you are dealing with that can tell me what I need to look for and how to get it?

      +Larry Roberson Hello for smaller items, like food or small fire arms, most people use the plastic pipes like PVC, but bigger, 6 in across and about 3 feet deep, after filling it for emergency use, glue top on, just like bottom, I have seen guns put inside theses, and buried 15 years, when brought out, were exactly as they went in, still had the oil on the gun, You could use larger 12 in. wide and put more away.
