Please restore it with it’s decals as it is, repairing the decals-it will take artistry, which you have in spades! The sewing machine collector whose channel is named “Wayne Schmidt” goes through which paints/pens/other products he’s used to bring these precious beauties back to life. Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers, you deserve it! I hope the new job suits you well. Thanks for the sewing machine videos 😍

Congratulations on your 10k subscribers. Since I am attached to the vintage and antique items built when the manufacturers had what I call a nobler purpose, I prefer them worn and showing a few battle scars. As long as function is not compromised, of course. Your third option would be pure joy to watch!
When a sewing machine that is almost a hundred years old functions as well as the day it was first admired and used by its original owner it is a testament to the ingenuity, talent and pure motive of a bygone era.
That you appreciate these machines and share your knowledge and experience with us makes you a sort of proprieter and preservationist of all of the above.
Please keep making the videos and teaching us. How I wish some of the youngstets would see the value of yesteryear's manufacturing.
    These machines are true treasures.

Congratulations! I have watched your videos for the last three years and love it when you restore a machine. Since I’ve had one of my 221’s custom painted, I can’t dissuade you from painting the Fiddlebase! I have an 1892 Fiddlebase myself so just know that there will be another one in the world should you decide to Steampunk yours! Can’t wait to see it. Hope your new job is fun and fulfilling…

Steampunk with an octopus pin cushion hugging the top arm. After being out of sight and forgotten about and covered in dirt, dust, sawdust and oil she deserves a new look. I love Steampunk as well.

I don't know how rare a VS2 is, but I LOVE the curlicues on the old girl! It would be so much fun to do as a steampunk project...but if it's rare there then I would try and touch up the existing paint- Alex Askaroff does a lovely job as well- and use a 28 for your steampunk...I too have rejuvenated footpedals and shared the address of that to another group. Love your videos! Short and to the point suits me just fine, I don't have all day to watch them. Congrats on your 10,000 from New Zealand!

Tony, I think if I had that fiddle based machine, I would clean it well and get it going and enjoy it, but I have observed how you love your steampunk, and I'm sure the world would be even happier with a clever transformation. There are loads of old sewing machines around. Have fun with it! And well done on the 10k subscribers. Cheers!

Ooh, I definitely think the Steampunk option! Not only does it combine your love of art, craft and VSMs but I think it will inspire others who may also have a battered machine and not sure what to do.
I was given a canabilised 28k which just wasn't worth spending money buying parts for, so she is going to be a garden project of some kind - I'll pop photos on the VSM group when done.
You are amazing, keep doing your thing, Sam 💪

Congratulations! I love your videos they are informative and entertaining. My thought is to preserve that less common machine and use a more common one for steampunk. The less common machines are harder to find and a collector will want it in as close to original condition as possible. Thank you for all the great videos!

10,000! More to come l'm sure! I restore old machines also and usually do not like to remove the history of the machine by stripping and repainting. I have a 1903 model 27 with the sphinx decals that is in really poor condition. I planned on repainting but the cost of decals is prohibitive. I have decided to try cleaning and sealing what is left of the decals and hand painting the missing decoration using pictures of similar machines as a guide. I can always strip it down if i fail. My goal is not perfection but preserving the look of nearly 120 years of sewing. As the decals on the arm of yours are not terrible, you might consider custom painting just the base in a style and color that matches or compliments what is still there. That said, l am curious as to what a custom steampunk singer would like. I look forward to whatever you decide to do. Thank you for taking us along on your ventures!

    Congratulations on your 10K subscribers!
I've learned a great deal from you. Not the least of which is having learned about foot pedal refurbishing. Without your video on Singer foot pedals, I would never have had the nerve to take one apart and refurbish an old Singer carbon disk pedal. I have now refurbished three and will soon be working on a Bernina carbon disk pedal for a friend. But for your generosity in sharing your knowledge these marvels of engineering would have gone to the landfill, or as you would say the tip.
For what it's worth, I see no reason for you to not follow your artistic inclinations about the fiddle base machine. I'd love to see what you come up with.

Congratulations Tony on reaching 10k, it's very well deserved!! 🎉🎉 It's interesting to hear your background and how you reached this direction in life. As for the VS2, I have one in a similar state from 1891. The japanning is totally missing in patches on the bed of the machine... as you said the decals are expensive! I would be interested to see a steam punk version, and i'm usually a purist!!

Steampunk would look absolutely perfect with that fiddle base! Whats the real chances of you being able to get the decals anyway? And a custom paint job is nice, but it’s just not steampunk. 😄

Congratulations on your 10k subscribers, Sir! Your videos are amazing and they well deserve it 😘
My emotional inner self says leave it original, as it's a very old machine and they are hard to find (I own a VS3 from 1891 and I'll take it to the tomb with me! haha), BUT considering that it has a fiddle base (hard to find a cabinet if the original one has been profanated! 😱) and it's missing some parts, nobody will pay what it's worth to use it.
So my rational inner self says, go for it! I can't wait to see which steampunk wonder you pull off it 😍

Wow thats amazing. I have recently found your channel and wow! I have the bug too. I have 10 machines in progress. I love servicing them! I also love UA-cam. So, with regard to your project, I would try doing a new paint and new decal. There is a girl in Brisbane Australia that makes decals at an affordable price. She has just done up an amazing 95k40 Steampunk style with Art Deco decals. Incredible Porche Red colour. She also has traditional decals and can scale to size. She charges in Australian dollars, but it wouldn't be hard to work out the currency exchange. $30 (say 15 pounds) for her Art Deco singer designs and double that for more traditional Singer designs. Sewing Machine Decals and Restoration is the name of the biz and they have an australian website. I am sure Dr Google will take you there if you wish.

I like your new intro very much, nicely done :) I have a Singer that I kept original in the best way I could and an other one that did not touch my heart in it’s original look so Im doing a repaint/decal (apple blossom) make over. Maybe you could let the sewing machine tell you what to do in how it makes you feel when you look at it…

There is someone on a UK Facebook group for antique sewing machines who makes and sells reproduction decals. I have left Facebook so can't really search for the guy's name, but if you're on fb, look for the UK antique singer group and ask if anyone knows who sells them. That way, if you do want to fully replace the paint and take it back to its former glory, you would have access to the decals.
However, I'm not opposed to a new paint job. The way it is now doesn't look great and the paint is chipping and just not in good condition to leave as is, IMO. I've seen a few beautifully repainted machines that looked just stunning and it's better to give them a new life than it is to let it be sad and disused as this machine has been for some time. Do what your heart wants!

@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns I did not have the opportunity to try it out properly, but as far as I can see it is a lovely little machine. It runs smoothly and quiet!ly. Everything is so tiny, complete the opposite to the 316G. I guess the Elna and I will become best friends.
