The First Female Marines From MCRD San Diego | Pt. 2

  • This is part two of Coffee or Die’s coverage of Platoon 3241, Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion - the women who made history in the first gender-integrated company to be trained at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
In this installment, the recruits meet their drill instructors and experience the shock of “Black Friday” before we follow them through some early phases of the 13-week boot camp training cycle that all leathernecks must complete to earn the title Marine.
When Congress passed the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, the law included a prohibition against gender-segregated recruit training at both of the Corps’ recruit depots. Until this year, the Marines sent all women to Parris Island for boot camp. All males east of the Mississippi River go to PI, and all males west of the river go to San Diego. Congress has given the service until 2025 to fully integrate training at Parris Island, and until 2028 to do the same at MCRD San Diego.

Male Drill Instructors were warned against yelling at female recruits as they would men. Female Drill Instructors are encouraged to go ape-sh!t on Male recruits whenever possible. Male recruits have a hard time not laughing at their high pitched voices

I remember for funsies (and cause he was jacked up) I let one of my female DI friends have at one of my recruits just so he had to stand there and be dressed down by some little girl that he could snap in half. It's honestly hilarious. One of my buddies told me the only time he got a boner in boot camp was when a female DI started yelling at him.

@Srijit Surendranath Yes, they did. That's exactly what happened. Feminists, Marxists and diversity hires are running the show now. That's exactly what happened. Every single institution that women have been allowed into has to lower their standards to accommodate women when they naturally can't hack it. This is an observable and repeated phenomenon.

I really hate the clickbait title of this docuseries.
They aren't integrated, they clearly have a separate company, and probably training battalion. They are simply the first females to go through basic training on the west coast, it's the same shit as if graduating from Paris Island.
The training is still clearly separate from the males, and they remain in their own separate, and all female platoons. Yes they do the confidence course at the same time as males, but it's the same shit on PI, they remain separate throughout the entire training evolution.
SOI/MCT is actually integrated, they have their own platoon, but they literally train directly with the males, they just have separate berthing shelters, and heads. (Restrooms) However MCT has been integrated at least since 2009 (When I went through personally, we had females in our training cycle, that trained directly with us, stood post, etc.) , but that's not a news story.

Also we did no shit dead hang pull ups, they just hang on the bar arms bent for a few minutes, not the same, but if she is wearing the same stripes as you she is your "equal" even though she really didn't "earn" it the way you did. That's what happens when you let fucking civilians dictate to you how to run your business

Army first started integrated training in 1977, because of those females in Congress and we noticed the difference in the soldiers coming in. What the Marine Corps should have done was copy cat a separate female training battalion in San Diego instead of trying to integrate training there and keep Parris Island separated. They don't need to be integrated until these folk go to MCT and school/ A.I.T. ( Marine Combat Training) for women and others and keep ICT ( Infantry Combat Training) for males. 1st time a male Drill Instructor brushes up against a female recruit for any reason it can be prelude to trouble

In fact I remember reporting back to a different platoon in our company one day cause I had come back from a med appointment and my unit was already out in the field. Well this DI got pissed about something and he said like half a word I dont remember what but all I know is that everyone dropped to the floor like in a split second to do dozens of pushups and mountain climbers. In fact they couldn't eat that floor fast enough, you'd think they were about to get shot. The DI turned to me seeing my confusion and said that was for his guys only. I thanked my lucky stars I was in a really good platoon and we weren't being tortured like that....

This is NOT an integrated recruit training. Training on the same base as the opposite gender, but still maintaining separate DI's, separate barracks, etc, is the same thing they've been doing at PI since females began training there decades ago. Integration means to combine one thing with another so that they become a whole. But this so-called "integration" the Corps is portraying is like having oil in one jar and vinegar in another and sitting them on the same shelf and calling it salad dressing...no...they are just a jar of oil and a jar of vinegar, just as they are a company of female recruits and a company (or several companies) of male recruits.
I had the "pleasure" of going through both Army and Marine Corps boot camps. The Army had a truly integrated boot camp. The females in my army boot camp company slept in 2nd Platoon's squad bay; the 2nd Platoon males were split up among 1st, 3rd, and 4th Platoons' squad bays. But that is where the segregation ended...during the day, the females went to their assigned platoons and trained alongside their male counterparts. At night, before hygiene and rack time, both females and males sat on the steps polishing boots (yeah, we still wore black boots back then), while conversing with each other and getting to know each other. That's what male Marine recruits do during their "personal" time....they take care of things, all while getting to know their fellow platoon members; same for female recruits. But this lack of integration does not allow the females and males to truly become a cohesive unit the way integration would allow for.
Now, integration comes with problems. Female giving head to a line of four male recruits in the laundry room. Recruits pairing off to make out or have sex behind the dumpster in the chow hall parking lot. Putting a rock in the fire escape door, so that a female can sneak up to the squad bay where her boot camp "boyfriend" slept and crawling into bed with him. Yep....that really happened in my army boot camp company. I hit it off well with a girl in my platoon, and we hugged, kissed, held hands when we were riding a bus to the night firing range. It was dark, so we could get away with it. Problems (that's how the leadership will see these things) like this are going to happen with integration, but they can be worked through, minimized, and largely prevented. But when it still happens, you deal with it. That is what leadership is about....foresee and prevent problems if you can, then deal with the problems you can't prevent or fail to foresee, then drive on with your mission.
Marine Corps, quit calling this charade "integration." If you're going to integrate, then fully f'ing integrate. Allow the CAMARADERIE to be developed between the genders instead of just within the genders. Have female and male DI's screaming at female and male recruits the way they scream, so long as they remain professional and within the regulations governing DI's. Have female and male recruits throw each other around during MCMAP training (we did in the fleet)...[WHAT? you think a female Marine is only going to come against an enemy of her same gender and stature?!?]. If you don't want to integrate...if you don't want the "problems" that come with integration...then go back to the way it was. But you aren't fooling anyone into thinking that THIS is integration...well, MAYBE you're fooling yourselves and the male and female recruits and DI's who think they participated in the first integrated boot camp. Well, they didn't...this isn't integration; it's two separate jars on the same shelf.
