Brave Star Selvage just dropped some Japanese offerings, their Strongman jean fit in heavyweight and a gusseted jacket. Everything they offer is under $200, and usually $100-150. Love their Cone Mills drops, though.

I have two pair of Brave Star and three pairs of Iron Heeart. The difference in quality of fabric is immense. I will no longer buy Brave Star.

@@batmanbear The 21 ounce IH denim is on another lvl, it''s thicker and softer and more breathable and comfortable. The stitching on the IH is almost faultless, while the Stitching on the Brave Star is overall good, I have had pocket stitching coming apart after limitied wearing. The IH denim seems to crease and fade better as well. I would take one pair of IH over two pair of BS. My favorite is the 21 ounce black overdye, it is amazing.

Great video. Your passion is infectious.
I am new to this world and I've been researching into it, learning more about the construction of these garments. Much of what you say is what I discovered and I was particularly drawn to Samurai Jeans. They have plans to eventually make all their product from their own cotton farm, which I think is amazing. I soon discovered that the high cost wasn't just about brand names, but about all the subtlties and qualities that go into the process.
I bought my first pair and I went with Samurai Arakage. I loved the details in them, hidden arcuates etc, and wanted something that was above mid-weight but not too heavyweight at this time. Although, you have interested me in those Iron Hearts by comparing them to armour lol
(your background is awesome by the way, rich in character)

@@unachimba9 not sure it's patented, but I found something about their dye...
      1.
An ancient dyeing technique [Amami mud dyeing] that has been rooted in Amami Oshima since ancient times. It seems that there are no detailed documents about its origin, but there is a record that [brown pongee was presented from the southern country] in the dedication style of Nara Todaiji Temple and Shosoin. It was around 1300 years ago, during the Nara period.
[Amami Dorozome] is dyed with the broth of the Techi tree (Plum blossom), which is 10 to 30 years old and grows naturally on Amami Oshima.
This dyeing method has been handed down from ancient times, where dyeing is repeated over and over in mud fields that contain a lot of iron due to the influence of ancient layers from 1.5 million years ago.
[Amami mud dyeing] using only the nature of Amami Oshima
It creates a gentle, deep, powerful, and astringent color that cannot be synthesized with chemical dyes.

Indigo dyeing in Tokushima Prefecture is said to have been brought to Japan from China around 900 AD by the lord of Awa, Hachisuka, who recognized the climate and climate of the Yoshino River basin as being suitable for the cultivation of indigo.
Indigo dyeing in Tokushima Prefecture is done using a method called “fermented lacquer” that uses Awa indigo as a raw material. Indigo is not a single color, but is created from various colors such as blue indigo, red indigo, purple indigo, and black indigo. Since it cannot be dyed in a deep color at once, the process of dyeing, squeezing, and drying is repeated many times.
It is said that the original color of the Awa Sei Aizome comes out after about 30 washes, but each wash removes the unbalanced colors, creating a deeper color. increase. In addition, the unique scent, which is said to have insect repellent effects, increases with the seasons, giving the wearer peace of mind. In 1968, it was designated as an intangible cultural property of the prefecture as the "Awa Sho Aizome method", and it is a traditional technique that has been handed down to the present day. Awa Shoai JEANS using denim dyed with the world-renowned traditional technique "Awa Shoai dyeing method". Since the yarn is dyed and hand-dyed by craftsmen, it is a rare pair of jeans with a limited number of production.
The threads used for hand dyeing are thicker than machine dyed threads, resulting in a denim fabric with a characteristic unevenness that is completely different from his normal 15oz denim.
