Thank you for sharing your build and talking through the challenges you encountered. Great work! I wish I had this much space to build a large Catio for my kitties. I will be attempting a smaller version.
cats dont kill for no reason. it is in their nature, they hunt, they play, they practice. cat's need room to run and play- but outside is too dangerous, including many parasites.
@DailyHobbyist it because the screw basically parts the grain as it goes in. Imagine putting a pencil back into a tin full of pencils, as you push the pencil in, the others all move aside. Pro builders will skew screw/nail at the end, or put a block (often called a scab) on the inside of the corner and screw each end into that across the grain. Perkins Builder Brothers on UA-cam is a fantastic channel to follow for learning all things building. Jamie spends a lot of time explaining why they do things the way they do, and what can happen if it's not done properly. They also really welcome viewers questions in comments. 😉

You tried bless you
a nice design and approach - but drilling and screwing into end grain is best to be avoided for longevity and strength.
Thanks for the advice! Always wanting to learn more. Do you have any resources that you can recommend me to help me understand why that would be?
