    Way to be humble by giving credit to the guy who said you didn’t use a fine enough grit, and having the balls to admit it to yourself and us 🤘

    Nice work, I just started messing around with polish and this vid helped me see what sort of finish is possible with older parts!

    Use a sewn yellow buffing wheel with brown tripoli.Then sewn cotton flannel wheel with white compound. I sand with 320 then 500 grit before buffing. Mirror finish.

      Thanks for the info! You're able to get a mirror finish with only going to 500 grit? I am going to have to try that!

    Like the work man.. I got a 94 hugger I just started working on. keep them coming. I'm learning from ya. also on the sanding I think (could be wrong not sure) that you may want to sand in a X pattern instead of back and forth. Back and forth over and over would make the scratches deeper. but yours did turn out pretty good.

    Hey I have a question. What is that liquid that you’re using with the sandpaper? Is it water or something else?

    • @cheesingarage
      @cheesingarage  2 роки тому

      Yup just water for wet sanding. It helps keep the sandpaper from clogging too fast

      @@cheesingarage Thank you so much man. I’m doing the same job on my 2010 Nightster, its full of rust and the rocker cover needs help haha. But I’ll do what you did and I’ll let you know how it came out man. Thanks.

    Does this process remove chrome? My covers are flaking / peeling, and I would like to have a polished finish. But, I heard removing chrome is really difficult. Thanks!

    • @cheesingarage
      @cheesingarage  Рік тому

      I havent tried to removed chrome before, but I would assume with some coarse sandpaper you would be able to get it off

    I am no expert in this area by any means but I was just curious how long you think this shine will last now that there is no protectant on the metal? I am about to do this..but would hate to have to repeat after a year or so!? Thoughts ?? Thanks!

    • @cheesingarage
      @cheesingarage  2 роки тому +1

      Your correct, this will require more maintenance than a clear coated piece. To maintain the shine, you hit it with the last step (mothers polish) whenever the shine starts to fade, which will depend on how much use the bike sees. You would only need to do the entire process again if you really neglected it to the point of pitting. You can add sealers such as ceramics to really extend the life of the shine in between polishes.
      If you are looking to keep it really low maintenance, you could clear coat it after you polish, but I don't have much experience with that.

    Good vídeo a tutorial you have the link to buy the stones for the shine. And what is the name of the liquid product you use first thank you.

      The rouge came with the buffing wheel set in the description. The liquid for the wet sanding is just water, it helps lubricate and keep the sandpaper from clogging. Thanks for watching!

    I found the best way to keep it looking sweet , buy from new and take dam care of it ! Lol i have a 96 sporty and it looks like chrome because ive owned it since new and have been hand polishing it for years , i never let my aluminum get dull , i get it though , my buddie just bought a 90 sporty and wow the cases and all the aluminum look horrible, but this is why i like aluminum over chrome , you can bring aluminum back from the dead , cant do that with chrome ! Nice work 👍👍also when did they start useing clear coat , my bike never ever had clear on any of my cases , or rocker boxes , guess i was lucky , oh one tip USE MOTHERS POLISH i swear by it and my aluminum looks like chrome after 26 years , used it since day one and still havent found anything better , equal maybe but i like the container better then any tube so mothers get my vote .....

    • @cheesingarage
      @cheesingarage  2 роки тому +1

      If you take care of them, you'll never have to worry about them! And I agree, aluminum over chrome any day. I'm not sure when they started the clear coat but its now pretty common on a lot of factory aluminum, not just Harley stuff. Most people just want the look with as little maintenance as possible. Thanks for the tips and thanks for watching!

    • @cheesingarage

      These parts aren't actually chromed, they are polished aluminum. The clear coat is to cut down on the cleaning a maintenance needed to keep them looking good. Any parts that are chrome plated don't have clear coat that I am aware of.

    Hey, just wanted to say it was nice to see a video with a guy that wasnt a complete tool .. I swear like 10 years ago a million dorks went out and got sleeves ,grew their beards out and bought bikes . I was asked to join a local motorcyle club but I drew the line at listening to 5 finger death punch while masturbating in a group ... bros are super weird ..
