My family is carnivore and it isn't much more expensive. Once you cut out all of the extra stuff like sweeteners, protein powders, sides, etc., it isn't that bad. We buy butter, sour cream and heavy cream but otherwise keep it to meat. Burger, pork and chicken make up a lot of our meals. We also get fat scraps and put them in the air fryer, and they are so filling! So it isn't bad, it just depends what you buy.
I don’t find it that expensive either, cutting out the carb items and the junk food, makes it manageable. Also, I often had to throw out expired veggies and fruits with the SAD. I don’t anymore. Yes, it seems that there are more carb and junk food items on sale every week, but we eat less when we are satiated with the protein. And we are healthier! 😊

I believe that men are done a terrible disservice by being treated as if they are "immune" to mid-life hormonal changes.
I started on a wright loss journey and lost 40lbs. I probably have another 30lbs to go, but what started off as looking to loose weight turned into a healing journey. I feel so much better off of all of the junk and just eating meat. I've learned I have an issue with eggs, some spices and some dairy! Now I know and I feel amazing! Switching to carnivore has been the game changer for me and I just can't imagine going back. Now I do eat higher fat, but that seems to keep my IBS in check but hopefully one day can switch it up and try high Protein. Thanks for the recipes and information Maria!
I still have 30 lbs to lose. I have found the most success with real whole food. I RARELY if ever use a packaged food other than some protein powders. I also learned to read labels. Yes! I just bought Daisy cottage cheese to use to make your carnivore lasagna tonight. Wow! The store brand was full of crappy ingredients and so yes, ingredients DO matter! And only cost a mere fifty cents more😊
We are individuals. Keto may work for some but not for all. Coffee before noon is excellent for me. However, this may not be true for anyone. I eat mostly planned based whole foods, but I'm not a vegetarian.

I don’t do the ultra keto. Too restrictive. Do high protein, very low net carbs, moderate fats, use stevia, keto bread and tortillas occasionally, I do some dairy, my 2 cups of coffee for breakfast. I will cheat on vacations. On the trip home it’s a 24 hour fast, then back to keto the next day. Keto is so forgiving. It works for me, this works for me. I have decreased my veggies not that I’ve learned more about it.
Is it ok to only consume around 850 calories daily. I do 1 to 2 meals daily. And they have to be real basic. Like meat and broccoli or a salad with exceptable salad veggies, and vinegar dressing nothing fancy. And if I add any extra fat or cook with it I gain weight. I do have 1 serv. of greek yogurt with dinner. I do an 18 hour intermitten fast, daily. 850 calories is about all the calories that I feel hungry for. Plus anymore then 850 calories I cant seem to lose, I actually start creeping the weight back on. I am on thyroid meds and i am 62, and I dont drink alcohol. My carbs are less then 10 total and my fat is under 50. Any suggestions?
Your body thinks you are starving and it isn’t going to trust you (let go of the weight) until you eat enough calories. You may need to gain some weight to start losing it again. I do carnivore and it took about 6 weeks for my weight loss to kick in, but now I’m losing about a pound a week. You’ll need to do some healing. Lots of other great videos out there on this topic. Yes, so many added ingredients in some products tgat are far from whole foods keto. I wanted to ask what is your take on isomalt? I sometimes eat some sweets with it, but small quantities, like 10-15 grams of sweet candy with isomalt.

Label reading is so important. Start testing your blood glucose and ketones so you will have at least two blood markers telling you what your body is doing with the food you eat. Make any changes to your eating...work smart not harder by testing (monitoring), at home, your blood sugar and ketones. Best thing I ever did to give guidance to myself and my weight loss and health journey.
Just found out coffee does elevate blood sugar. I finger prick and wonder why my glucose went up 10ml before eating. So never drink coffee on an empty stomach. Wait until your meal or after. I put ghee in mine to slow it down amd it seems to work.
71 years old...on low carb/keto for about 8 years.... Working fine for me...reversed my diabetes 2...its in remission for several years...no longer considered a diabetic. A1C 5.0..BUT I will always have to watch what I eat. Have many of your books but cant make 3/4 plus of the recipes...allergic to egg white and the majority of your recipes have egg in them. Bummed about that but I had to stop buying them. I wish someone would have a site that is keto for egg allergy people. Some have reduced egg...but if you are allergic, you shouldnt be eatingl any.

Oh man, I think about all the years as a vegan and all the wheat gluten we used to make meat analogues!!! We cooked so much, dehydrated, grew vegetables, made our own bread etc.... oh well, we did the best with the information we had, raised our kid that way. We are now carnivore, but this was 40 years of that, some raw food vegan, some vegetarian. Luckily we are all healthy and happy.
I would go out in a small boat in the open ocean in a heartbeat. Especially if I lived in Maui. My wife and I honeymooned there and she cried when we had to leave to go home.

I don't know if it's Perimenopause or what. My digestion is very sensitive. I'm leaning more towards 'Ketovore' (I love cucumbers.) My overall chronic pain level was decreasing for a while. Now, things have gone haywire & Dr is trying to figure out what's going on. (Fast weight gain, pain & heavy flow.) Ultrasound is pending. I'm so tired of this. 😢

Caffeine irritates my bladder, as a post menopausal woman drinking coffee gives me urgency incontinence. Since I’ve stopped drinking coffee, no more urgency.
Preach Maria! I laugh at all things advertised as keto or esp keto friendy-all garbage not food. And Yes! I’d Join you whale watching on a board in a heartbeat. Esp since you have a clue about the tide where you live. Peeps are at much higher risk of stupidity on the ocean than from the sea creatures under the water. At least thats my experience. I loved to surf and skateboard as a kid and teenager. If I can keep getting my weight down and health back I may be able to do it again❤
Keto sucks at least for me. Ever since I started I kept gaining more & more weight especially when I went back to eating carbs. The problem is the foods that are allowed on low/no carb diets are high in fat, cholesterol & high in calories. I believe low glycemic is best for me & reducing or eliminating sweets 🍭 is effective. But completely cutting carbs doesn’t work for everyone.
@@MariaEmmerich I did strict keto for 6 months & couldn’t get below 220lbs & I was also fasting. I believe keto ruined my metabolism because I did not have trouble losing weight before the first time I did Atkins & every time I tried I kept gaining & gaining no matter what version. I’m not saying it doesn’t work for some people. But for many it doesn’t work.
I totally disagree about what you said about dairy. Studies do indeed show that dairy and calcium products help you retain muscle mass and decrease abdominal fat. If you want to lose weight and are in a caloric deficit the dairy products give you important micronutrients like vt k2, calcium and potassium. And they really help regulate your blood pressure and as someone who works out 5 days a week I can attest to the fact that keeping in dairy from food sources was a game changer for me. People are too quick to dismiss dairy but keeping it in medicinally is super important, 20 grams of hard cheddar a day and a half cup of greek yogurt and you will reek the benefits!
Dairy also causes significant inflammation in a LOT of people, especially those with autoimmune issues. Which is why I don’t recommend it for weight loss 🙏
@MariaEmmerich I hear you. I think the low lactose and sugar in hard cheddar and Greek yogurt are the exceptions. To the point where I believe the benefits of Greek yogurt on gut health make it a superfood and in my experiences it reduces inflammation, high blood pressure and anxiety in a caloric deficit. Just my observations having worked with people since 2002. You're the best Maria, no one helped me understand reversing prediabetes more than you and Craig and I have helped so many thanks to you both. You're a blessing.

Low compared to lipids . i reversed them and it worked . Too many people coaching others in keto dont know what they are doing!

Oh man, I think about all the years as a vegan and all the wheat gluten we used to make meat analogues!!! We cooked so much, dehydrated, grew vegetables, made our own bread etc.... oh well, we did the best with the information we had, raised our kid that way. We are now carnivore, but this was 40 years of that, some raw food vegan, some vegetarian. Luckily we are all healthy and happy.

I don't know if it's Perimenopause or what. My digestion is very sensitive. I'm leaning more towards 'Ketovore' (I love cucumbers.) My overall chronic pain level was decreasing for a while. Now, things have gone haywire & Dr is trying to figure out what's going on. (Fast weight gain, pain & heavy flow.) Ultrasound is pending. I'm so tired of this. 😢

I switched to carnivore,keto has too many sweets made with stevia etc…I can’t handle any kind of sweets at all because it triggers me to binge eat.

You've probably answered this before, but is it the coffee or is it the caffeine? I drink Swiss water decaf coffee - and grind the beans myself.
Swiss water decaf is better, but I would still suggest quitting altogether for optimal health ❤️

Caffeine irritates my bladder, as a post menopausal woman drinking coffee gives me urgency incontinence. Since I’ve stopped drinking coffee, no more urgency.

Peeps are at much higher risk of stupidity on the ocean than from the sea creatures under the water. At least thats my experience. I loved to surf and skateboard as a kid and teenager. Keto sucks at least for me. Ever since I started I kept gaining more & more weight especially when I went back to eating carbs. The problem is the foods that are allowed on low/no carb diets are high in fat, cholesterol & high in calories. I believe low glycemic is best for me & reducing or eliminating sweets 🍭 is effective. But completely cutting carbs doesn’t work for everyone.
Sounds like you were not following a well formulated ketogenic diet. My clients have great success 🙏❤️
@@MariaEmmerich I did strict keto for 6 months & couldn’t get below 220lbs & I was also fasting. I believe keto ruined my metabolism because I did not have trouble losing weight before the first time I did Atkins & every time I tried I kept gaining & gaining no matter what version. I’m not saying it doesn’t work for some people. But for many it doesn’t work.

I totally disagree about what you said about dairy. Studies do indeed show that dairy and calcium products help you retain muscle mass and decrease abdominal fat. If you want to lose weight and are in a caloric deficit the dairy products give you important micronutrients like vt k2, calcium and potassium. And they really help regulate your blood pressure and as someone who works out 5 days a week I can attest to the fact that keeping in dairy from food sources was a game changer for me. People are too quick to dismiss dairy but keeping it in medicinally is super important, 20 grams of hard cheddar a day and a half cup of greek yogurt and you will reek the benefits!
Dairy also causes significant inflammation in a LOT of people, especially those with autoimmune issues. Which is why I don’t recommend it for weight loss 🙏
@MariaEmmerich I hear you. I think the low lactose and sugar in hard cheddar and Greek yogurt are the exceptions. To the point where I believe the benefits of Greek yogurt on gut health make it a superfood and in my experiences it reduces inflammation, high blood pressure and anxiety in a caloric deficit. Just my observations having worked with people since 2002. You're the best Maria, no one helped me understand reversing prediabetes more than you and Craig and I have helped so many thanks to you both. You're a blessing.
It holds people back due to too much fat too. It doesn't trigger satiety as well as other foods (like animal proteins) and can lead to over eating. More on that here:

Everyone has different needs. But yes, beef is the most bioavailable and nutrient dense food for humans :)
