You Can't Ask That About Nicaragua! 🇳🇮

- #nicaragua #retirement #relocation Often the questions that I get asked about Nicaragua imply a belief in a common cultural uniformity with other places allowing for more direct comparisons that are truly possible. When considering becoming an expat or relocating to Nicaragua, you should approach the questions with the most concrete information and open mind as possible. Nicaragua isn't like other places. And many assumptions that people make subconsciously don't apply here.

In Nicaragua, life here is just different. And many things you'd normally ask about a place where there is more uniformity or familiarity won't make any sense here. What questions are you struggling to get answers to that maybe we can reframe to make make sense?

First and foremost thank you for all the great information.
I’ve watching videos related to Nicaragua contemplating relocating there, doing that videos from “Allison’s Journey” (part 1 -11 as of today)come up regarding an unfortunate incident that happened to her husband in Nicaragua. I’m not sure if you’ve come across any of her videos that said, what is your opinion on that???
Thank you 🙏
Suggestion for additional tagline, “In Nicaragua, life here is just different.”
While it’s true everywhere, it may help set the tone for those with tunnel vision for their future, with only North America in their past.
A veritable font of info, my friend! You are so valuable to us.
Hey Scott, how long is a piece of string? JK. Great vid! Thanks.
Your videos are so helpful. Thank you for continuing to show up in your unbelievably busy schedule.
I am wondering about better bank accounts for keeping your money in a checking account while abroad. We have recently noticed that many banks are starting to increase their minimums needed in the account to avoid fees as well as certain processing fees. I am talking specifically about Community Bank NA and TD Bank. Do you have any thoughts on a better bank to keep your money in so that you can avoid fees all together?
I was looking at Ally bank or Charles Schwab.
Thanks again Scott!
Charles Schwab is THE go to bank for travelers, for sure.
How do you handle jury summons?
Same as normal, just tell them where you reside. When I lived in the US I had to do this ALL the time. "Oh, I reside in a different county" or "Oh, I reside in a different state", do you still want me to show up? No, they don't want you to show up because you don't legally qualify for jury duty, lol. In THEORY someone might someday want you to show up. But as I never qualify as a peer, I can't be summoned. Also, I have no mailing address at my residence, so I won't receive a summons until long after the trial. The US jury system hasn't modernized to use email in most places, so they can't reach most people.
If you think about it, you don't deal with a jury summons if you are on vacation. You just don't know that you were summoned. Imagine if you took a three month cruise or a trip around Europe. How would you deal with it then? More or less the same.
Mr Miller I am a retired General Contractor is there any possibilities of work for someone like me
Working, at all, in Nicaragua is essentially out of the question. It's neither legally available as an option under normal circumstances (there are special cases for large investors, but that process takes so long and so much money - no one who does it would need work) nor is it lucrative. If you speak English well, you can make more money doing entry level jobs online in English - a LOT more - than you can working as a contractor in Nicaragua.
A Nicaraguan contractor, as an example, would be happy to earn $600/mo and would bring their crew with them via family connections and community reputation. They'd speak Spanish, have loads and loads of local material and supplier knowledge, etc.
Even if you could legally work, which isn't a possibility really, you'd be trapped at far lower income because you don't have the resources and experience in the market necessarily to earn the $600. You'd be much more likely to be looking at $200 - $400/mo.
And you'd be taxed on that.
It's SO easy to earn more than $600 TAX FREE as an American or Canadian working online over the course of a month. That's just $30/day.
I’m looking at building another house. I worked in industrial construction and a lot of the projects that I have worked on were in the 100’s of millions to multiple billions of dollars. So I know a bit about how to manage projects like this myself, but I would enjoy to spend my time not having to watch over every move that the contractors do. If you are interested, I could look at some of the work you have done. You could start up a legal corporation in Nicaragua, I would be willing to pay you $300USD per month to manage my new house build

Never ask when it stops being so hot ?
Well, asking what a two bed appartment costs per month is a perfectly normal question. What may be hard to ask is why there are so many single mothets in nicaragua and why people dont have many values.
It's a normal question for people who aren't thinking at all. Tell me, what's the normal two bed apartment cost in North America - and tell me, what does that apartment look like? How would knowing the median price help someone if they don't know what that apartment is like? Did you watch the video? I think it explains well why asking that makes no sense. Why do you think that it does? If you can't use the answer, why ask the question?
You just made a video with no answers whatsoever and I understand your frustration with the question maybe do a video where you show some houses your viewers are asking about whether it be a one or two bedroom home or apartment go out to see them and do a video on that then we at least can get an idea in that particular City in that particular apartment for that particular home rather than generally just telling us that it's a loaded question
I do that, all the time. I've also done videos on why almost no one will allow us to film houses. I literally film every house I'm allowed to and always tell the asking prices for exactly this reason.
But people HAVE TO KNOW when a question makes no sense and can't be answered. Or they will keep asking that question. For example, I've done exactly what you said, yet people STILL ask the wrong question. So clearly, this was required.
