anything you do - never have a single point of failure. electricity, water, communication, savings account, girlfriends... always have more than one.
Powerful message to live by. Or maybe to die by. Love it
Girlfriends!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I didn’t know any of this! Thanks for the valuable info Scott.
You just blew my mind. Our government overreach and manipulation is near impossible to avoid. Eleven more months till we vote with our residency. Unfortunately we need time to wind down our business and liquidate assets. 'Paranoid me' fears "What if the gate closes before we get out"
Fun Fact: In a situation when you still have a bit of signal like out in the wilderness, but not enough to make a call or do data, an SMS is more likely to get through. Similarly in an emergency when the towers are congested and you can’t call and data is slow or not working, an SMS might get through.
This is because SMS runs over a control channel and if your phone can at least connect to the cell tower it will be more likely to be able to SMS when voice calls or data fail.
To be clear I’m using the words MORE LIKELY as obviously nothing is guaranteed!
I consider this good information to know for those situations above as some people may try a call or data based app like WhatsApp and give up. In those cases it’s a good idea to try texting as well!
It's true. SMS is more likely to be able to get a message between the cell and the tower. But because they get discarded if there is an issue, their reliability gets super low. For those situations, Apple users would use the satellite feature instead now. If your signal is that low, you can send emergency texts (yes, it's texts) via their satellite network.
For sure, assuming you have a newer iPhone with the latest OS. Honestly I sometimes want to just get an only school flip phone 😂
@rjstewart those really only work in the US and Canada where whatsapp isn't the communications platform.
Fascinating.
1) why are most people changing their numbers all the time? Never see that in Canada.
2) SMS is huge in Canada because data plans were so expensive here, until recently.
So bizarre. In most of the world data is pretty unlimited or at least cheap. Should be cheaper to the carrier than texting actually is. Carriers charge each other for texts, it's a huge issue. It's kindof like would you change your email address if you changed your internet provider.
@ Would I change my email if I changed my internet provider? Yes, if my address ended in the carrier’s name. This happened in Canada all the time. There was a time before Gmail!
Canada is serviced by a small number of companies for: internet, cell, groceries. There’s probably a name for a situation where only three companies exist to provide you with products and services.
@@EdwardBernardson Oh for sure, 20 years ago that was the case (where you had ISP branded Email addresses). However one of the rules today is that you would NEVER use your ISP for email. For more than portability. They just aren't good at it. They are barely good enough to be an ISP. You never want to use them for anything but that. You buy your phone service (VOIP), Email, Web Domains, Hosting, etc... all from another company.
@ I agree with you. But there is a whole generation that is perfectly comfortable with their AOL addresses!
@@EdwardBernardson 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How can you differenciate between legitimate politicans or scammer politicians... Still trying to figure that one out!?!
If they text you, it's a scam. But the problem is, are they texting for themselves or the opposition? No way to know.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog Knocking on doors with no soliciting signs is even more invasive. But my point is, I'm not sure any of them are honest. I'm sure there are some, I just don't know of one.
So I’d drop texting in a NY minute: what to do about websites that still send a text authentication number for access (vs facial ID)?
Any ill harm from actually deleating FaceTime, iMessage, and message from the phone?
I think if you’re in the US you can get a “text” number via Google’s phone service but it uses an app.
I don't know that you CAN remove those things.
Yeah, and I think it is a fake text number. But it might be both. I can't though. I've been trying to get a Google number since they first announced it and it always just says not available in my area - which I normally tried from the US. It's not a reliable service. It's like "beta" and they randomly pick who can get it and they can randomly take it away. Never trust a GOogle service for something like communications as they have no track record of reliability. Google Wave, anyone?
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog I don't even see the iMessage app on my Home Screen; moved FaceTime to an "unused apps" folder. Sucks the gov still does text authentication or I'd drop the message tab like a bad habit. I sent a message to the local Veterans Administration IT, about a week after getting the latest iPhone, "When will faceID be an option for login?" (currently only a phone call to North American Numbers or text for authentication)" No response from the Great & Wonderful Wizards yet.
Took seconds to add fingerprint/facial authentication to Login.gov. Now access to SSA, VA, IRS, and CBP Trusted Traveler just became a little more secure.
So was your American T-Mobile phone number wiped off your phone, too?
no. that's still there but it had some problems until i installed ios 8.1. posting from it now.
@ScottAlanMillerVlog I hope you mean 18.1 😳😂.
How do most of you guys still make profit? Even with the downturn of the economy and ever increasing life standards
No more talking about your Jimmy obsession
